The sLowlane is dead...Long Live the sLowlane!

Postby Rollin » September 15th, 2010, 11:19 pm

So my last NC was brutally murdered by a scumbag in a stolen car, and I needed a replacement. Turns out I'm a sucker for punishment (who would have thought? ) and have now developed a special relationship with LWB boxcars <3

So this is the new one as I bought it, what a beast :/ Mudflaps, wind deflectors, headlight protectors and a host of issues that needed addressing, but the basics were there.

It came with kings superlows all round and a set of Ultima shocks. The ride was actually really really good with those shocks, I was quite surprised. Unfortunately all the bushes in the thing were about 100,000km overdue for replacement, so I got onto that quick. The whole front end has been sorted now, as well as the rear LCAs. Will get around to doing the uppers and watts link soon.

I also swapped all the shocks over from the last NC, as well as the rear springs (so again, the rear springs and shocks are out of the ED) but kept the superlows in the front rather than the "adjusted" stock springs that were in the grey one.

It also came with almost new slotted front rotors but had pretty awesome wheel bearing noise, so I pulled the discs off for a look. To my astonishment there weren't actually any wheel bearing seals fitted to the discs at all. Normally you would think the wheel bearing grease would have flown out everywhere, but whoever fitted them got around that problem by not actually putting any grease on the bearings other than a thin film of what could have been engine oil  Awesome.

So after fixing that and a few other odds and ends up, I put the wheels from the ED on (what I'd been previously using on the front of it) so now it has black 17x8s on it and I've rolled the front guards so they don't catch. Much better.

The plan now is to touch up a few more things that aren't perfect, give it a good polish/clay bar/wax, get the tinting redone nice and dark and then cruise it. The exhaust is stuffed but I don't want to upgrade it because I don't want the car noisy, but at the same time every link in my DNA is stopping me from replacing it with another standard component...what a pickle.

Shameless plug: The wheels are for sale on ebay at the moment: http://cgi.ebay.com.au/18-inch-rims-sui ... 230a20fb28

And the shocks will be soon unless someone makes an offer:

Lots of stuff off the old Fairlane is still available, let me know if you want anything...

I don't get what people see in the LWB's, but I've never driven/been in one. Must be addictive whatever it is.

You should put those alloys off the old one on it, they looked pretty good with it lowered & shit.

I don't know why I like them either...they're just perfect cruisers. Big-ass sofa seats, velour everywhere and acres of legroom in the back (Which for those of us with a penchant for al fresco type horizontal activities is worth every centimetre ;) ) and it kinda encourages me to drive sensibly - which is good because I'll need to save every point I can for when the ED is back on the road

+1 for liking NA/Nc's for some unknown reason.

That colour with the black wheels look tops :good:

Are those tail lights and garnish matching? Looks, different..

I think the red badge strip in the middle of the lights are LTD - Fairlanes have the badges along the bottom - if you click the pics you can see they have fallen off this one....

I'll pull the badges off the other garnish and put them on this car eventually...

na/da have them in the middle, nc/dc have them along the bottom
put the entire garnish on, the badges are normally a [unt to get off and you'll break em...i dont know how your ones fell off

Looks the goods.

Im also of the opinion that the standard wheels need to go back on. Duno what it is about a slammed LWB on its standard wheels that looks so good!

They do look great but they are far too slippery. The tyres on this thing stick like shit to a blanket, so they will hopefully help keep its lovely pointy nose nice and pointy....
