also, if you got an LS with a T56 bolted to it, you can put it straight in. You will need to change the shifter, and fit a LH Starter kit (you will have to fit one of these no matter what transmission you use with an LS motor)...

if you have any questions about that stuff just ask... its a fairly common thing we do at work (not the actual conversion) but supply components for driveline and LH Starter Kits. If your tempted for a T56, stay away from the VE box, as it wont suit what your after!!

Im gonna go against the trend lol... ive never had a 355 stroker so have little insight but ive seen my fair share they sound fucken nuts and drop an awesome patch im sure youd get some poke out of one with a vortech too... theres plenty of factory 215 HSV on street commos with a vortech running mid to high 12s....

I guess if your only out for bang for buck all out power the ls1 will win.. but meh i love the sound of the old ones and if i had a car of that era that's what id stick to
-Black VZ Calais 5.7ltr V8, cammed, stalled, built auto, 3.7s trutrac, FR19s and the rest. - 270rwkw 1/4 12.7 @ 112mph

-ENVI Green 04 BA XR6T ute, hardlid, 20s, bigger injectors, fuel pump, bigger cooler, dose pipe! dyno tune - 236rwkw

WIN

excatly what im trying to say. im not going for bang for my buck. i know an ls1 would be the best engine vs horse vs dollars, i didnt build a 347 cause they were cheap

more then likely going to end up building a 355, well under 10k for a tough one, second hand ones float around for 5kish, i can get my hands on a good set of heads for a grand ported with rollers and good valve springs.

long term project, house is coming first anyway promised the mrs i wont spend any real money on this till i get a decent pay rise. (6 months roughly)

carb L98, filter out the bonnet.

355s are great, but not for the budget you are talking about.
you are dreaming if you think sub 10k will build a 250+rwkw 355.

sell the lot and buy mine for 11.. if u make 2k off all the shit u have, cam mine and retune theres your 10k 250rwkw..

v1 straight cut gears + cammed 304 sounds better than 355 with no v1 straight cut gears

Thanks for the input

IIRC bentls bought the car as a busted shitter and has put a lot of effort into reducing the busted shitterness of it (ie, polishing a turd ;) ) which IF the difference was actually 2k, I'm sure would be justified by the repairs and improvements.

just looking at all my options, i realy want to build a carbied 355 wich i think i will end up going with.

i think 250 at the wheels is acheivable if i get a second hand motor (know what ya know its who ya know)

if not ill put a small block in it

Clearly he said "People pay 105 an hour for my labour at work" and not "I get paid $105 an hour".

It's funny that, IIRC the labour rate at my work is between 110 and 130 an hour, but yet people have a teary if you ask half that for a cash job at home :/

lol internets once again delivers the lols..

All good no offense taken, I know id have the same view point as josh(EBOOST) if I knew what he knew, I don't post up every little thing I do to this car but I can tell you, how it is now, compared to when I first got it, it's a fair bit better... lots of shit was "that should cover it I reckon" but heaps of that has been re-done, while it might not be drastically changed, it has improved in quality etc

Go chevrolet.
My step brother had a seriously built 355 in a VP SS aero (close to $20k in two builds) and it only pulled a tad over 300rwkw. He then added a Vortech, but didn't have much luck with the blower. Sounded fucking tough, went fairly hard, but his common sense got the better of him and sold the lot for ~$10k IIRC and went the LS2 route. Not sure where that build is up to at the moment though, haven't seen him or his car in ages.

mate of mine spent a shitload building a tuff 355 stroker in his vk. then bought a 5.7 vt2 got a mafless tune and it went harder then the vk and the whole car including the tune cost him less then just the engine in the vk lol. so he said he'll never play with a 355 again and just go straight to an ls next time.

must have been a shit 355 or something then, cos my vn beats mackies vt with ease (i had passenger and 2 subs etc) and mackie was on his own in a t56 vt clubsport with pipes and otr and tune etc
and vk's weight ~150-200kg less than vn's

mines 3.08 diff too...(not close to good match for my car)

mines got 238@ wheels, people hit around 200 with a 304 with high comp, cam etc etc, so a 355 which costs more than a vt 5.7 would surely be able to have more power than me at the least....

no idea on what his power is. i would personally of thought that if he had spent like 15-20 on a 355 it would be pretty damn crazy. the vk he uses mostly for burnout comps. maybe he thinks the vt just feels quicker. i dont talk to him. one of my other mates was telling me about it a while ago.
