I like this car to be different to most. Turbo e-series have been done to death! I don't really care about numbers anyway. If it feels fast, I'm happy

true lol. I've got plenty of time to think about what I'm going to do still. It won't be happening too soon, whatever path I take for it.

Few small updates on the AU. So far I've done a few subtle changes and repairs. For the roady it needed a FR tyre, front brake rotors/pads and a new exhaust. I had the tyre replaced last week, and today Kev change the brakes and welded up a 2.5" catback. It has a nicer note, but is still fairly quiet, perfect for a daily. I've also debadged it, replaced the climate control unit, and fitted centrecaps to the wheels (it only had 1). Here's how it looks now. How much nicer is the exhaust tip!

I will be repainting the grille black (as well as those bumper inserts). I'll keep the spoiler on this as it squares the back off a bit. As for suspension, the plan is for the lows from the EA to go into this at some point, the EA will get superlows.

Yeah, side repeaters will be coming soon for it. One day I'll probably change the rims. For now, they've got good tyres so I'm not too concerned. A bit of a cleanup, and they should look alright

Just putting it out there mate, but when I put the SL springs in the back of my AU, it made it handle all weird. If I were you, I would just go Tickford height and chuck some 17’s on it. That was the best combo I had on mine, handled beautifully. Just do that, de-spoiler and black Ghia grille and it’ll be a sweet as daily.

Tickford height is the plan. SLs are for the EA. I'm keeping the spoiler on this but the black grille is one of the plans.

Cleaning the rims has certainly improved the look! They're still a bit ordinary between the spokes. I don't know when was the last time they were properly cleaned but the brake dust has certainly taken it's toll on the finish.

It's amazing how much of a difference clean rims make. My BF looks like arse at the moment because the rims are caked in black dust. I'm not bothering until spring, as driving on wet dirt roads every day means the car's only clean for a few hours...

Cheers Dave. They're still definitely not mint but they're much closer. While I was at it, I cleaned one SVO! Haha. Couldn't be stuffed moving the EA to get to the other 3! They will be coming off to be restored at some point anyway.

I'll probably try to get some Tickford 17's or something for the AU eventually too. Not only would it look much nicer, but 5 spoke wheels are much easier to keep clean than 18 spoke wheels!

Painted the grille and bumper inserts today. For a pressure pack job, they came up alright! Much better than all the shit I've painted on the EA over the years

Couple of new pics of the car. I still need to organise a full size number plate for the rear. The slimline just looks wrong.

OK. A few updates. Firstly as some people know I've had a Wade 977b cam sitting around for a long time. I originally bought it off Bentley but then decided it would be a waste of time to put it in the 3.9 litre. After getting the EL motor, I was still uncertain of having it in a daily. Well, now that it's not a daily, we put it in about a week ago. It seems to go alright but there still seem to be a few issues with the car that need sorting out. Thanks to JoshL and Kev for the help putting it in. Just to get an idea of how it sounds, here's a vid:
Image

Also, I got some new rear speakers for it off BrockyB8. The Clarions that were in the rear were about 6 years old, and a while ago they started to get a heap of distortion. A while after, the speaker cones started to really disintegrate! This is the condition they were in when I removed them from the car. The rest of the speakers cones ended up as little blue flakes all over the boot floor :(. Surprised I was still getting sound out of them really!
Image
And with the new speakers
Image

And one more mod for the AU, woodgrain door spears. Combines well with the dash trim and shifter surround. Other than that I've replaced all the blown interior globes and got a full size rear numberplate for it. Yesterday I removed the mudflaps too.

I added the last bit of wood to the AU the other day, an EL GT steering wheel. I'm very happy with how it looks and feels. Still haven't done much on the EA. Want to save a bit more money first before I get into the bigger mods I have planned for it.

Anyway, here's a few pics of the AU. Just ignore the fact it needs a vacuum.

Long time since an update but the basic story is earlier this year I decided to take the EA off the road and try to tidy up a lot of issues with it. I made the stupid mistake of doing this at the start of winter so no sooner had I started work on it than it was too cold and wet to do anything. Nearly 60 hour weeks haven't exactly helped the motivation either.

Anyway, what has happened in this time is I have replaced the dash with an immaculate ED one (but still using the original loom, cluster etc.). Similar story with the console. I've scrubbed the hell out of the seats and they've come up pretty much brand new.

I picked up some Whiteline swaybars (still to be fitted), some EF doortrims (still need some parts for them then I'm going to customise them to suit the seats), an XR6 fuel reg and a sunroof. I've also got a double Din DVD player that I'm going to try and fit (will be a bit of work). Unfortunately the EL engine has to come back out because it's done the sump gasket. Lack of room at home is the main problem I've got with this though, so I'll have to do it somewhere else. It's a slow process but I started working on it again. I've now got SVO style taillights (black pinstriped lower section) and today, I mocked up my new XR front. Just needs paint, a slightly shorter bonnet latch, and I need to sort out the drivers indicator.
Image
It will still be some time before it's done. There's still a lot to do.

Also, as for the AU, all I've done is change the headunit. I was going to go a DVD player but decided on a single din CD/MP3 player. Fits better in the curved dash.

Over the week and a half I had off, I started doing a little bit of work on the EA. Unfortunately after spending half of the time off at Maffra, I caught a pretty bad cold halfway through so didn't get as much done as I'd like but got a bit painted up.

XR front painted, screwed in place, bonnet latch shortened, indicator fitted.

Lower rear garnish painted satin black to match SVO-style taillights

These photos also shows how badly this car needs a complete respray. Between the peeling rear bar and lip, sandblasted Scorcher bar, keyed sides, and a roof that's beyond a cut and polish, the old girls looking pretty sad.

Nice work.

Shiny is overrated! The 'well used' look is all the rage.

Well, that's what I keep telling myself Haha.

Cheers

lol. It's pretty tough keeping a 22 year old car pristine, that's for certain!

I've always liked your EA, what are the future plans for it?

Customised EF doortrims for it in the next few weeks (just need a few little bits and pieces before I do them)
I'm going to move to an AU engine as I reckon the EL motor's done the bottom end. Have no idea where that'll happen as I don't have the room at my place.
Get my sunroof fitted
tinted windows
Redo most of my suspension bushes and fit my Whiteline swaybars
Repair cracks in bodykit and minor rust repairs. Respray is definitely going to happen one day

Overall, it's going to be a big tidy up. I was originally planning to go forced induction but I've scrapped that idea. It's just going to be a neat cruiser. Less of a hassle with the cops. I'm even planning to quieten the exhaust! I just don't want the hassles with defects, EPA etc.
