Another possibility may be chopped springs & std shocks? I'm presuming the LHS rear gave way.

Hit a depression with a loaded car at speed, sping unseats upon rebound, car comes back down busting the shock & fukks LHS rear wheel, car drags left/spins towards tree.

Kids were on the side of the freeway inspecting the burnt tree, and everyone had to slow down to watch them- causing the traffic to build up back to South Melb. Shtknts.

SItting in traffic I had a pretty good look at the skid marks, massive angle into the trees, and no snaking like you would expect with a big tank slapper.

I'd hate to see the statisitics of how many young people have lost their lives in VB-VS commodores. I think that if they would have been driving a E SERIES-LATER model FALCON they would have survived IMO.

Its just one of those accidents I guess. They happen, not much that can be done. Doubt the outcome would have been different if they were driving a Falcon. I know from driving to GOR with stockies and a full car that was a bit of a handful with the bumps, rear end was all over the place.

Seen pics of the car? The driver's side's fkn stoved the fuk in. If the driver and rear seat passenger weren't dead and part of the tree they hit they would be like that Bruce Willis in that movie where he didn't die n shit.

The passenger side guys would have been unconscious or something.

Not quite understanding why this thread has bumped back to the top of the list...

t2te50 is definitely right about the death-in-commodores comment, if they lost control in a Falcon and hit the tree in exactly the same way, they would've all walked away because of Smartlock.

Wrong. Rake and reach adjustable steering column for sure.

Nah you guyyyysss, If they were driving an E-Series it would have blown a head gasket and gone into Limp home Mode, and then some other random commodore would have crashed/caught on fire and kents would have still died.

I know what its like first hand unfortunately... I watched 2 good friends hit a tree 100m infront of me at about 120km/h if I remember correctly... after seeing that (in grade 8) nearly anything that happens to me doesn't phase me, and I have been in 2 acco's since then (my mates were driving, not me).

but seeing the s*** I did... well... it messes you up so much a part of you kinda just switches off and goes numb. they were year 12 students. Him and his girlfriend. she was killed instantly as he hit the tree so hard she ended up under the seat and the car split in half, cause he wasn't wearing his seatbelt he was thrown from the spinning/flying half of the car from between the roof and the headrest... he was so messed up I didn't know for 3 days that it was him, but if you went across pavement, face first for 30m, you would be hard to identify too...
