ute wont start

Postby doey » November 20th, 2010, 10:05 pm

i brought home my xd fairmont ghia today. so i put my battery from my xg ute in it. i started it but the choke wasnt out enough. and stalled. i then tried to start it again but it was flat. i charged it up and put it back in my ute. and it would not start. not even a turn over. i charged it again and it did the same thing. i got my neighbour to jump start it but it wouldnt start. i took my mums battery out of her car and put it in mine. and it did the same thing. it has done 220000km. and i also did 150km of towing today. i need some help because i need my ute for tomorrow.

lights etc come up on the dash?
if so but it wont turn over. perhaps you have somehow knocked the wire off the starter.

or missing a wire on the battery

Make sure the connectors on the battery are clean, as well as the terminals on the ends of the wires that connect to the battery, also make sure they are tight as well... probably shouldn't be an electrical fault or anything just from changing the battery over :?

What happens when you put the key in and try to start it? any lights come on? slow cranking over? starter motor tick's? normal cranking over but doesn't start? could be a lot of things, help us narrow it down.

Exactly the same proplem with my 1992 EB 2.

Working fine until I left the doors open all night to dry the interior after steam cleaning the seats.

Starter sluggish first go and then......NOTHING!!
Replaced with new Battery - NOTHING!!! Will not turn over but headlights bright as etc.
Tried another new batt - still nothing. No response. I can hear the fuel pump kick in and the relay.
Next - ran a wire direct from Batt to starter - NOTHING!!
Obviously the starter is F&*&*^%%^&ed - Correct????

I'm pretty dopey - just wanted to check with u guys if Im reaching the right conclusion before I hire a sparky or spend my last buck on a used starter.

Any ideas?
