LOW_XR wrote:pretty good power there steve  . what ya think of the di fillipo system? is it much louder than stock?

well i'm not sure if it is good power ?
as i've not many 3v 5.4's to compare to with only the mod's i've got :glare:
dont get me wrong... i'm happy where i'm at, but i'll be looking for more out of it before i'm done :good:
only the header's are di filippo, but as you'd know.....
stock system's are'nt ment to be loud, and that's ten fold for an LTD being a limo
i did'nt relise how quiet it was until "kev gave it a rev" after doing the plug change,
a hoover vac cleaner has nothing on my old system
it's still quiet at idle & low throttle, but opens up a bit when my foots down.
i was thinking of taking one of the muffler's out, but the quiet/loud open throttle suits the car i think :geek:

That's what difillipo system do. Mine is awesome. Puttin' round town you hardly hear it or cruising on the highway you'd think it's stock. Then once you put the boot into it, it gets loud, really loud.

as far as sound, that's due to the muffler's that are on it (2)..... i quite like it now

well auto needs to be done soon (still).
still not sure what will happen with the motor.... n/a with cam's, or boosted ? (waiting on more info).
diff (lsd & gears).
i wanted wheel's before xmas..... but they'll be post xmas, as i'll wait to get what i want.
all those i've already spoke of before, cash flow is slow  so it'll be a while before all of those are ticked off as done.
and last is the body & paint !
i've been looking at my old "nl" pic's & i'm thinking a cowl scoop the same as i had on it will be on the LTD soon.

haha i get dosed alot
it's funny how people are'nt as keen to give me a run (unless they know the car) when i've got the steelie's on, as aposed to the std LTD rim's.

You should do it !
I always wanted to do heads and cams.
It was one of those things, you should do cams, but then you need to do springs, and then well you are almost there may as well do heads as well !

This will take the power up from 5000 rpm to say 5800 rpm would be more fun. with a small 2500 good stally it will be nice to drive as well.

the brakes are shot, so good old ebay come through with some new disc's front & back with pad's to suit that i picked up a couple of day's ago for $300 ;)

Image

i did my day trip to murray bridge s.a today, just over 1400 klm's all up....15 hrs behind the wheel + fuel stop's & chit chat with the guy i bought something from (a long day)
i got a good suprise with the car... this is the first long run it's had since i got it & it went well :good:
i had all the tool's & a couple of spare wheel's etc in the boot (just in case) but the only drama were the flying pest's splatering on the windscreen :glare:
the suprise was how good on it was on fuel.... the average fuel consumpition was ....

Image

yep... 9.5 l's per 100 klm's !!!!!..... 600+ klm's from a tank :yahoo:
i thought it'd get around mid 10's, as it's getting low 13's during the week with some (friday hwy action)

Yep the big old truck engines love the hwy hey!
Good pickup with the brakes. You'll love how easy b-series are to work on. I jump at doing homers on them.
If you can't have wheels on and off, rotors, pads changed and driving again in an hour there's something wrong!
They are notorious for front wheel bearings tho which is kinda a workshop job. Need a real decent rattle gun and torque wrench.

Looking forward to seeing these new wheels!

a couple of thing's has happend since the last post, twice in two week's i've been touched up by a couple of "knob jockey's" at f/gate carpark, it seems no matter what part of the "least occupied" part of the carpark i go to, i come back to find something to show for it  and of course they left there details to cover any damage.... NOT :glare:
also the trans is about to give up (i've known this for a bit now) but it's realy bad now.
i'm just about to get it rebuilt once i've sorted what i'm doing with the engine......
which leads me to the next small (and i mean small) item's i got today.

Image

i'm going to go the cammed n/a route, so in preperation (not sure what cams i'm getting yet)
i got some "phaser limiter's"... thanks to kosta "PUNISHER" for puting me onto the mob from the states :good:
there alot less complex & cheaper than the comp cams item's :geek:
i hope that this year will be a good year for the LTD....(apart from the start) and some better performance along with some visual update's will bring it up to speed with some of the other car's on the forum

rim's will wait,
and cam's will be a while as well, as the list is..... auto & stally, diff- lsd & gears... then cams.
cant realy do the cams until the diff gears & stally are done (depending on what cams).
they cant give me a good figure on what power they make, as most guy's over there have other "bolt on's" on top of the cams.
at the very least.... it'll sound better & make people second guess the car

I like it on the standard rims, more power, less 'look at me'!!
