Whos been for the v8 hotlaps around sandown?

Postby MontXR » December 19th, 2010, 9:20 pm

Hi everyone

Im looking at getting the v8 hotlaps for a xmas present but have heard mixed reviews about them but dont know anyone that has actuaclly been for one. so was wondering if anyone here had actually been for one and what are they like? how many other people are on the track the same time as you and can u go as fast as you want? Are they worth the money?

Cheers

my mrs dad the the drive a v8 race car at calder park

did like 6 laps of driving the car him self, then did a hot lap with some no name race car driver

he loved it cause he isnt a hoon and drives a jeep cherokee

they were dead stock vx monaros with an exhaust system, barely did over 120 down straights

wernt allowed to go higher then 4th

i think it would be pretty ordinary from what i saw

My boss did the Calder one last year sometime and then he did the Sandown one on Friday just gone.
He said Calder is crap compared to Sandown. He said you go about twice as fast as the at Sandown than Calder, Sandown has better/more technical corners, and that Calder doesnt even feel like a racetrack compared to Sandown.

Haven't done Sandown, have done a V8 Race thing @ Calder - Car was slow as, slicks & decent brakes we're impressive tho.

Also did a full drive day @ Paul Morris's test track in Queensland & 3 hot laps with Steven Richards driving a TE50, now that was cool!

I got 8 hot laps for xmas last year i done it around sandown back straight is awsome topping over 200kph but we had a couple of equipment malfunctions on the day but i was not fussed instead of my 8 laps i ended up doing 26 laps in 4 different BA xr8,s they are basically stock xr8 with double front brakes only fault i could pic was the traction control is way too light it kept boggin down the car when ya tried to get upta speed ... but overall worth the money for sure id do again.

I did the hotlaps in Calder at the start of this year. Was only a front seat passenger but it was well worth having someone take you round in a car and know what limits to push the car too. I'd recommend it.

I got 7 laps of adelaide raceway for a present,
i drove a ba/f xr8 it had a good first gear and good brakes thats about it. put it in 4th down the straight and it had no pull at all.
any of my turbo falcs would murder it, and the other two i went with said the same that there gen3 comode,s had alot more go. as a present it was ok but i would not pay for it.

I try to think that he is. That was you get more lols and less :banghead: .

I've got a 5 laps as a front seat passenger and 6 laps driving to use. I want to see if I can use them both in the same day so I can get driven around and take in all of his braking points and lines through corner etc.

Driving a car with decent brakes/tyres and a bit of poke on a race track is 10x better then driving a 350rwkw auto BA.

I did the calder one 5 laps... was shiit as... after i just felt like plowing my car through the fence and onto the track and racing them... no joy at all cars were fucking slow instructor was a tool there was way too many cars on the track. My mate did one for double the price at oran park much more personal experience with only 6 cars on the track hot laps proper driver training .... with this sort of stuff its worth paying extra. The calder one is like a factory conveyor belt in and out... the car was a stock vy ss with a shift kit ... horrible

i did calder one, i liked it. not a life changing moment but fun.
cars aren't fast but grip and brakes made up for it.
wasnt many cars on track for mine, they only let out a few at a time.
im not even going to touch the auto thing.

thats basically my opinion too, take a few corners to get a feel for just how much grip they have.

I was the same. Kinda scary when he says go flat out, dont take your foot off the gas, dont brake until I tell you to!

my mother and i brought my old man a lap when it was at calder and he hated it cos you can't really give it shit

he kept getting told not to select 4th, only allowed to do 170km tops.

he said his au xr8 felt quicker than the cars. i was going to buy myself a lap but decided against it after he said its way over rated and not worth the $$$

in my opinion from watching my dad it's over priced and over rated
