Rollin's LEGAL drift/skid sikness :D

Postby Rollin » July 27th, 2007, 8:32 pm

Hey guys, I finally got my butt into gear and put some vids on youtube.

First one, friday night 'qualifier' for the burnout comp at powercruise last year. I totally stuff it halfway through by feathering the throttle too much but for the most part it is ok. Make sure you have the sound on because the turbo sounds hot!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GXSFoR05IVU

The pad was covered in coolant and stuff from POS commodores dumping their guts, so I had to feather it heaps to keep it off the limiter in second (would have pulled third but T5 3rd gear is about as tough as Polyal) then went from wet to dry patch as I lifted and nearly stalled lol.

Some of you will have seen this one - Lap dash at archerfield:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ib2HkiooNMc

This is another night that I still won :D was a bit wetter this time, hence the slower lap time:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zzR6aUlJ2ok

Me racing and RAPING Ignition in the cruise sessions at powercruise (filmed with a phone so dodge quality)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ERRIcE07C7M

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sKHRETH811s

And my "impossible catch" in the drift sessions, very VERY poorly filmed!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UXRo8VsegrI

Sigh....I did so many cool drifts out there but none on tape :( I also spun about 11tybillion times too though haha!!

Ohh yeah, that just happened!

Hopefully you will have more drifting ones to add from power cruise this year.

Yeah with a bit of luck someone will actually realise that I DO want some footage of my car! I couldn't believe it when I got back from a drift session and asked to see video, and everyone just said "Oh, we didn't know you wanted us to"!!!!

That skid video is one you took isn't it? Or was yours the one I got on my phone?

Haha thanks guys :D

Ignitions car Did sound tough - ported E7s with bigger valves and springs, cam, 1.9 roller rockers, ported explorer manifold, 65mm TB and twin 2.25" exhaust, CAI etc...it used to be able to powerskid all the way though first gear if you just stood on the gas off a set of lights, even with 265s and an auto.

Then he decided he hated his penis and sold all the cool shit off it, and I think is trying to sell the car near stock now.

I have a vid somewhere of us racing down the front straight at QR, and as we approach the camera all you can hear is ssssssssssSSSSSSSSSSSSSSCH tt SSSSSSSSS as I go 2nd to 3rd, then as the cars go past his exhaust drowns mine out and all you hear is the BRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr of his car at full noise, it's mad as :D

I'll try find it later.

Don't think so. The one I took was the last half of your skid in the burnout comp on the Saturday night.

Nice stuff Rollin! Impossible catch is soooooooo close to looping it, big kudos dude!

Those roll-ons with Ignition seem very very close too... closer than I though 200rwkw would be vs a wheeeezer anyways! Mine vs. an XR8 sprint was no where near that close on roll-ons. What RWKW is Ignitions car putting down with those mods?

Very nice effort in the burnout comp too, nice to hear you're not afraid of the rev limiter! (unlike me, I'm shit scared of revving it that high on boost LOL)

Igintions car was doing 220rwhp last I heard (before he dismantled it of course). Not really sure what that equates to in kw but I do know that at powercruise Rollins car was making 270rwhp so there was a 50rwhp difference.

I'm not sure what Ignitions car was putting out either, I don't remember if the 220rwhp was with the MAF he was running at Powercruise or the previous one that was causing drivability problems.

The reason the races were so close is because for some reason the stock cam in my car wouldn't let the engine rev past about 4700 (even with 6psi being shoved in), and the T5 in my car had a massive gap between 2nd and 3rd.

We were racing from the middle of my second, so I had to build boost, then change gears pretty much as soon as I had boost, then the revs would drop back to about 3000rpm or so in third and then once it got into it's stride it would start pulling away. Once at the top of third and into 4th it was no contest.

I want to get the cam from that motor measured, because it was a shocker. Ever since I first bought the car it just would never rev out - you could sit at WOT in any gear for as long as you want and it would rev to 4700 then just sit there. Picking another gear or letting it drop back to idle would induce a massive missfire that would clear up over about 10-20 seconds.

I'll never know why it did it or caused those symptoms (I've asked countless apparently knowlegable people about it with no satisfactory answer) but it was definitely the cam. I replaced everything else with no change, put a regond in and it would spin to the factory limiter with a vengence. Put the stocker back in when I put the turbo on and straight away it wouldn't rev, even with a completely different EMS.

Stupid thing.

oneredED - the limiter was set to 4600 in the skid comp to avoid the above issues, but when it was N/A with a decent cam I still gave the limiter a big touch-up on many an occasion!

New engine has a 6000rpm limit and the cam and head should see it make good power all the way there :D

My car is and has always been exactly as you describe. It was masked by a faulty CAT that limited it to 4300, but with that cleared up 4900 is the absolute limit. It hits the limit and sits there, and then once you back off it just misfires and carries on for 10-15 seconds and then slowly gets back to normal. Odd. A mild cam is on the cards once I get the rest of the package sorted, so we'll see how it goes, I hope it fixes it like on yours 8-)

i have the impossible catch video from another angle... i can see the stickers on the rear window when its at its most impossible angle.

Rollin, please refrain from typing such funny stuff, when i am reading this at work. That bit about ignition hating his penis is GOD DAMN FUNNY!!! you funny kent.

About your XR cam though, it behaved itself when it was in my car all those years ago. It would rev well passed 4700rpm.
