Proper HID is, if you've just got different bulbs then no.

If they are too 'blue' you might find the cops will defect you - for some reason they have quite a hatred for bluish headlights.

IF IT IS A PROPER HID KIT IT IS ILLEGAL.

IF THEY ARE REPLACEMENT BULBS WITH THE SAME WATTAGE BUT A DIFFERENT COLOUR LIGHT IT WILL DEPEND ON THE COP AS TO YOUR LIKELYHOOD OF GETTING A DEFECT.

Kind regards,

Rollin.

The Narva replacement bulbs I've used are all crap.. had both the Ultra Blues and Platinums now, they look great but suck for vision. Not much different then driving by your parkers :P

Whilst a bluish or really white globe looks impressive when looking at them. They are useless as far as visibility.
A yellowish globe has a longer wavelength and improves visibility, but look like shit from the front.

yeah got defected going through a booze bus, they are unroadworthy if you dont have self-levelling headlights & self cleaners, and I was chatting to the cop and bright lights is a big thing they are going to be cracking down on

HID by definition involves a kit including ballasts and capsules. Almost all OEM installations run through projector headlamps running the pure white 4300k colour temperature.

Higher colour temperatures are illegal because blue lights are supposed to be reserved for emergency service vehicles, aside from looking for all the world like an embarrassingly cheesy attempt at turning a Civic into a prestige vehicle.

HID capsules do not mate with regular non-projector headlamps which have been carefully designed for filament bulbs. The result is blinding of oncoming traffic which is also illegal. When running through halogen projector headlamps (such as an ED XR6) the results are better but still illegal.

A proper HID retrofit involves fitting purpose-build HID projectors into the headlamps of a non-HID vehicle. Such a set-up will have a proper cut-off line as the light will be optimally aimed. This is a relatively major project but on the HID Planet forums you will see that many have successfully completed the operation. If done to this standard, it should be legal - I'm not clear on the legal requirements for washers and so forth.

Conventional blue-tinted light bulbs are a compromise, adding heat which damages the lighting internals whilst reducing output. A very light tint won't do much harm, but stock bulbs really are the best overall. Quality white LED 194 bulbs are nice for number plate lights and such if you want to do something a bit different. As for headlamps, best to do it right or not at all.

For other drivers yeah. But you end up with bright light about 10m in front of the car, then nothing. Doing 100km/h you cover that in under half a second.

I use Philips +30's, seem pretty good. Maybe 29 times better than +1's.

nah, mine was spot on perfect height, high enough for me to see, while not blinding other cars, helps when you have access to a headlight aligning machine too I guess

While it hasn't been covered in this thread, it has been in the stickied thread, and about a billion other times.

HID lights work in projector headlights. They are gay in refractor/reflector type headlights.

Read the back of the packaging all narva ones have a colour temp and if they are too bright they will say for off road use only

I've had a bit to do with these in NSW.
The RMS doesn't allow them because the ADR require self-levelling and headlamp washers.
I am also led to believe the lens are different on HID.
