Hoon Accident

Postby BROCKYB8 » March 16th, 2011, 8:11 am

A motorist is dead after a car which was believed to be drag racing crashed into him.

Police said that just before the crash on the Princes Highway at Dandenong on Tuesday night, two cars were seen travelling at high speed.

As the hoon cars raced towards the intersection of Henty Street, one car collided with a vehicle that was attempting to turn right.

The impact sent both vehicles careering out of control and they hit two light poles on the side of the road just before 8pm (AEDT).

The 31-year-old driver of the car turning right, died at the scene, while the other driver, 27, was taken to The Alfred hospital in a stable condition.

Intensive care paramedic Greg Nicholls said the crash scene was chaotic.

"Paramedics quickly removed the driver of one car. The passenger side of his vehicle was pushed in about a metre by the force of the impact... unfortunately he died at the scene," he said.

He said the driver of the other car had a fractured arm and dislocated shoulder.

"He couldn't get out of the car due to the pain he was in so we gave him a pain relief inhaler, then some morphine through a drip to help make him more comfortable," Mr Nicholls said.

"It's frustrating to be going to collisions like this which have such devastating consequences, knowing that the crash could have been prevented."

Police are looking for the other car in the race, a late 1990s red Ford sedan with tinted windows.

Read this on 9 msn site.

THink anyone planning on driving through dandenong will be looked at .

Heard some idiot on the radio this morning talking to Eddie on triple m going on about how he had a “red falcon with tinted windows fly past him” on the freeway about an hour before the accident. He also said something about how it “took off with a huge cloud of black smoke” when it went by. So my guess is someone with a turbo gave him a bit of a dose and fly by?

If the racers were massively speeding then there isn't any need to consider that the dead driver didn't give way. That is one of the biggest problems with speeding, the other drivers around you are basing their decisions on normal road speeds. If the other driver is speeding and closes the same distance to them in half the time they allowed in their mind shit can get ugly.

He probably came to a complete stop in the middle if the turn once he saw how fast they were actually approaching. Which is not a good idea... I say punch it instead.

Yeah it is a big IF too. I wonder what the estimated speeds are going to be once the investigation is complete. It's hard to estimate from the info and photos in the various news articles.

I hope the other driver is never identified for his sake, but that he learns to calm it down a bit in future. IF they were racing of course... I had a close call once and it really makes me think twice before doing anything stupid now and I'm much more likely to not bother at all.
