PBR E-Series Brake Upgrade

Yesterday i was contacted by someone at PBR Brake & Clutch regarding a potential Brake Upgrade kit for the E-Series.
They're looking at doing an upgrade similar to what they offer to Commodores and fairly similar to the other big upgrades that are available.

basically they're after some idea of what people are really after and what potential issues people have.

so far the gist of it is a twin piston kit with larger rotors (around the 320-330mm area) with a larger single piston rear setup.
PBR's kits are done as full car upgrades, not just front or rear so i'd imagine the kit may be more expensive then other options.

Issues i raised were the current kits are generally fairly expensive, and if they're not, they offer the wrong offset.
i also informed them of the spindle/stubaxle clearance problems we have.

anyone got anything else to add, an off the shelf kit would be pretty nice

I think the main issue John is that noone will buy them.

The latest of EL's turn 10 this year, the earliest of EA's turn 20. The average value of a good nick EL is $4-5k. Who would spend $1500-2000 upgrading the brakes? That buys most parts for a turbo conversion.

I'd buy them! As long as the offset is right.
The only issue I have with the EF is the crappy brakes. Everything else is fine.
Personally, and I am probably the only one, I would spend the money on brakes BEFORE spending it on a turbo. But that's just me.

The only other thing is it would be preferable if they could use a common rotor and a common caliper, to make getting replacement pads/rotors easier. Just a thought.

My thoughts exactly. I don't plan on buying another car until I can afford to do so without selling the EL.

they need to make then cheap ,with popular rotor and pads ,avaivalble in both AU-BA and E series offsets .they need to make them so you can buy the front and rear sep .and with or without braided lines.as it puts people off they theres a brake kit available but its $2500 with everything .break it down so people can afford it .

i think thats about it ,im not to worried bout rim size as long as they fit under 17's

Front
320mm or 330mm slotted rotors
Larger twin piston calipers
Braided brake lines
E Series and AU/BA offset (can keep the hub adapters, but prefer not. i like my wheels so stay on the car thanks)

Rear
298mm slotted rotors
Large single piston caliper
Braided lines

and try and keep it around $1700 - 1900 and ill buy em

something interesting though... xf's that had 4 wheel disc brakes, had vented rears. they are the same diamater as ours, and all the hub specs are the same. I would think you would need the rear caliper though due to the extra thickness. The information is available if you download the DBA rotors product list, and it has the specs there.

OED - I've often thought about the XF setup, maybe we should get a disc and calliper from the wreckers one day and see what the go is?

I'm pretty much with everyone else - Big two piston calliper, 330mm slotted rotor, available in AU or E-series offset.

Anything more than that would put it out of the budget of most e-series owners IMHO....But something has to be done. Any E-series with forced induction or a 'sporting' driver needs upgrades!

AU offset option would help people who want to fit BA wheels, or jap rims (like me! 17x9 FTFMW)

I agree with Sunny, it's too late and too expensive to bring out a cheap brake upgrade kit for E-series these days, they are too old. It's going to take a fair bit of R&D and that is going to be reflected in the price, which no one is going to pay because the car's aren't worth that much anymore. If the aftermarket jumped behind the E-series back in the day like they have done with the B-series from the beginning, then there would be heaps of cheap brake kits kicking round.

It's the same with stuff like airbag kits. I got a quote for airbags for the EF it was gonna be 5k+ because they haven't and won't develop a kit for them. Who is going to pay 5k for suspension when you can buy EF's for 2k? On the other hand, even the cheapest B-series are still around 11k, so it would be worth the company developing a kit. People would be prepared to pay because the car's aren't shitters yet

they fit.... with a bit of stuffing around

you have to use the xf axles due to where the bearings are pressed on. to accomodate the thicker rotors. if the bearings were moved further up on the e-series axels it would then clear.
and the alloy mounts would need 2 of the holes redrilled. they moved the mounting plate on the diff to a different spot for some reason. probably just to be a pita
they changed the alloy mounts enough so the xf calipers arent a direct swap... far easier to change the lot

but the handbrake cable looked like it would still fit properly. the calipers are in the same spot basically
