XM 4.0 turbo

Postby OldGrog » March 19th, 2011, 1:41 am

Hey guys
Ive owned mostly Windsors or Clevelands except for the wifes cars which have included ED XR6 EF Mont and BA XR8 she now drives a Territory Ghia.
So this brings me to my new project being a big fan of the howl of a flat six (like the 4.2 Jaguar or 3.0 BMW engines both of which i have owned) i was going to build another 250 2V which i had laying around but a mate was selling an XH he had pranged so for $400 i had a 4.0 and T5 oh plus the whole car.
I have purchased a RRS power rack, strut brace, coil overs and notching kit for extra room then i came across a BF turbo system and couldnt pass it up.

Using the XH as the donor vehicle for Booster, master cylinder, power steering pump,Radiator, Thermo fans, engine, T5, loom, ECU etc etc i even plan to use the aircon and heaterbox as the origional heters are crap and it gets hot in Darwin.
Last part of the puzzle is a new diff which i got quoted from extreme drivlines for an alloy 9'' 31 spline 3.5 centre LSD which i will use the XH discs on so another 2 months before i get that deliverd.
Anyway thats the build, parts and bits are waiting for me to return from my trip to Afghanistan and then the building begins.
Then when its done i start on my 1959 MK 2 Zephyr.

I dont have any recent pics of the XM but i did post some on fordmods a few years ago of what she looked like then.
Havnt realy had time to work on her as 2 long trips overseas and moving between 2 states and a territory in the past 3-4 years have slowed the build up, however i will be taking about 6 weeks of work in the future to get some major work done.
Wife wants it finished by the end of the year.

Just in case you weren't aware, the bf turbo manifold won't bolt up to the xh head, so you will need another manifold if not already organised

Yer i know the BA/BF manifold wont fit the SOHC block, looking around for a suitable manifold.

OZBMX
End of this year mate but i wont be back in OZ till about June/July.
Im in Darwin so its a long way from anything which maked car building more expensive with freight charges.
Tunnel will be removed and modified as the SOHC block sits right at the firewall so i will recess a portion of it and midify tunnel to suit.

Have also been debating the Auto route i do like a manual and the wife only wants a manual but i woudnt mind an auto and then i can put the auto in the zephyr.
Also becouse i have spent alot on steering, suspension and drive line $12500 i need a bit of a budget engine so i was thinking XH/EL block (have) with EF/EL XR6 head (need) head new springs (have) retaining the log manifold (have) garrett GT3582 (have) XH ecu (have) J3 (need) wade 1673 or 977B (need) and lastly a exhaust manifold (realy need) not counting new water pump welch plugs etc etc.

Thoughts?.
