Won't be doing that for a while though. So I want it to be running well without that.

dont get an XR6 computer and you will be fine. Just drops more fuel in for no reason. It will run fine with any other ECU, weirdly enough i tested a few ecu's Fairmont ones seem better...Well my ECU is EF1 Fairmont ghia... got about 1L better per 100 then all the others..

You can get away with an Auto one and the resistor mod then, but for how cheap a J3 is (i.e. way cheaper than a proper tickford manual ecu) you'd be best to do that, as you then get the benefit of the better timing etc that the tickford tune has standard.

I bought an EF Fairmont ECU from a wreckers a while ago though and it had a different plug than my EA. I was told that I have to get an EL one.
I'll just grab one out of an EL next time I'm out there, then.

yes. EF is different due to it running coil packs. EA EB ED EL all share the same plug and EF and AU share the same plug

looking good the bud, with the ecu just remember that with the el ecu you will have to get a smartlock override due to the ea's not having it.
keep up the progress

Ah cheers mate. What exactly is smart lock? Seen people talking about it but not really sure, and how do you override it?

Gonna grab some black paint on Wednesday and paint the wiper cowling and a few interior pieces. I'll get the ECU then as well.

Nah I'll just go J3, was gonna get one anyway. It's running a lot better on the EA ECU now anyway, doesn't stall at idle now, still runs pretty rich, though.

also take into account that EL's have knock sensors in the block, unsure how this affects the ECU if there is nothing plugged onto the pin

its probably worth spending a few minutes to research that haha

Something went wrong on the dyno today... not even sure what it was but it fixed itself. It only ran 73.8kW, and when I went to go park it, it had basically no go at all. But then driving home it was fine. So I was pretty pissed off as it was a waste of my dyno run.

I was just looking for a rubber XR spoiler and saw this one. Was at uni at the time and didn't even really have to think about it, drove to St. Albans the next night to pick it up. It's had the SVO label covered over with fibreglass, but I'd only care about that if it were going on an SVO, so I really couldn't be happier with that buy.
The guy I bought it off had about 6 E series parked in his driveway and said that he had 10 more at his farm. Wonder if he's a member on here? His eBay ID was xr6mick
