1800 bullet race/ski boat

Postby bng » April 8th, 2011, 1:31 pm

Hey all,
This is my 1800 bullet race/ski boat. Its an early 90's hull with a 200hp mercury motor. It's currently being stripped as it's getting a respray and a name in the next couple of weeks.

Image
Mine is the white one with black seats. The other bullet is my mates 2006 1850 with a 2009 250hp mercury.

Ive been told by my mate to do bridge to bridge but as it's in may, I'm gonna put it off till next year

Enjoy

Hell yeah! Big fan of the older style skiboats, sleek and sharp. Screw these new 'wake' boats and their bulkiness I reckon, even though I'd still love one :P. Cant beat the look of these though!

Yea i love it. since ive been a lil kid, all i wanted is a bullet boat. its also had the 2 holes drilled out of the exhaust so it sounds serious. ive already been asked if i was practicing for bridge to bridge seeming that it sounds so loud

Yeah I know the feeling mate, always wanted one myself, in fact a cousin of mine has a ski boat sitting in his shed that hasnt been used for years. Its been in my head as of lately to buy it and restore it. I have only looked at it quickly but I reckon it may even be a bullet hull.

I love em. I'm just despressed I can't use it. It's the best feeling hammering down the river. I say look into the boat dumpsta. They are so much fun. But everything costs money. Understand that they cost a shitload to run. First wkend I used it, I spent close to $400 in petrol.

That bullet 1850 is nearly completely out of the water, one of the best events I ever went to was the "Bundy Thunder" a few years back in Bundaberg, QLD. Awesome to see boats that literally the only thing in the water is the prop haha... Not to mention the sound of the supercharged inboards..

Just went and had another look at the boat as its only 100m from where Im now living, definitely looks like a bullet make to me but I dont really know my boats. It needs some sort of pump to get it running, I forget which and the only damage I can see is the windscreen... What would you reckon its worth?

Kzykrl- that thing is mental. But why put 3 motors on the rear? Oh well. Each to their own. I saw that video lastnight with Afew mates. We were watching all those super class boats. Incredible. From what I've been told, my trailer used to be used for that boat. Sick boat though

Dumpsta- that's how my mate drives. He is incredible. I'm still learning how to drive like that. Your fighting with it the whole time. Hmm id have to get more details of it. Size of it, size engine on the back if it's rego'd, has a trailer etc. But at first glance, $3000
But afew things to consider before buying a boat
1- can you afford to buy it
2- where will it live
3- can you tow it
4- will you actually get use out of it
5- can you afford to put petrol in it each week
6- can you afford to maintain it as everything costs shitloads on boats

Looking at it again, it's def a bullet. It has the triangle badge just back from the windscreen. If he isn't doing anything with it, get me those badges haha

Mate, nearly every cent I make atm is going into necessities for married life (wedding in 4 weeks) and a few more dollars to be spent on the falcon before that day but after that.. not a cent for a while. Hence a bloke could do with another project. wink wink. And in saying that.. Im now basically subcontracting (essentially working for myself) and on what most people would consider pretty awesome money..

Its a 115hp Mercury on the back and google images tell me its roughly a mid 80's engine. My cousin (old enough to be my dad wierdly enough) tells me they had it running not long ago but was in need of a "I forget which sort" pump. I would have to find out about rego etc but the trailer looks fine and the boat is in fine condition other then the windshield. Good to know it is a bullet, now I think I want it more haha. And as for use..? I grew up skiing probably 2 or 3x a month, so probably about the same when I get my own.

Sorry to hijack your thread too btw.. :P

Im pretty stoked actually, just had a chat to him about the boat, checked the badges. Definitely a bullet, Id love to find out which series, looks very similar to the 1500's Ive seen on the net, would you know how to find out? The badges need a bit of tlc but if the boat ends up in my name, they're yours mate.

Anyway, being the great bloke he is, reckons Im more then welcome to play around with it and use it at my will as it sits now... ;) And as you can see in the pic.. its a blueband 115. Apparently from 1973-1983. Mixed opinions on the net, saying they're rubbish or you just cant kill them. Meh.

Congratulations on getting married. Let's hope she let's you playing all your toys.

They do cost abit to run/maintain but if your know and are willing to live with that then that's ok. Before you go head first into this boat, jump on boatsales and have a search. From memory, there are some decent bullets for sale in QLD, but it all depends on how much you want to spend. Do some research because when I say $3000 for a boat, it mustn't be a decent boat. No offense. But it's hard to tell thru photos. It's got no ski pole, motor is small, windscreen, unknown pump(fuel pump) and then just the general condition + the age. Just to make sense of things, the motor that is on my mates boat (yellow bullet above) is a 2009 250hp mercury. Cost him $32000. The price of a G6e turbo. My motor, which is early 90s could be sold for $3000/$4000. Least it's good to see that if you do end up with one you'll use it. We are out pretty much every weekend. Both Saturday and Sunday.

Mate that's fine. Im more then happy to help someone and hopefully get them into the wonderful world of owning a bullet.

I reckon I could pick this one up at an awesome price. I know he'd nearly give it to me.. :) Im not going to rush into it headfirst, I'll have a bit of a tinker with it in my spare time over the next couple of months and see how I go. I got to admit, I will always want an inboard 8 but for a first ski boat, Id be more then happy with a old outboard.

yea it looks smaller. might be right saying its a 1500. it would explain why the motor is so small. with those motors, everyone has an opinion. its all up to you i reckon. personal opinion. my mate with the malibu told me whilest i was looking, that everyone wants to go fast on the water in the first boat. all about speed. to get you started, outboards are the best.
if you can play with it and take it out every now and again, itll be sweet. best way to have. youll get the feel for it and youll 'own' a boat with owning it

Fuel sensor and gauge. Because the boats old, I got the good old measuring stick. Drop it in and hope when you pull it out you've got enough fuel to get home.

I'd be leaving it all white, cant beat it in the first picture! But I am more of a simple is best sort of bloke. White with white/black windshield, no decals or anything... ;)

Spend a bit of time today on the old 115, got some new fuel lines and a water pump impellor kit on hold for me to pick up. Unfortunately the cap on top of the fuel pump has split at some point, some mates tried to glue it some time back and not sure how they did. They dont sell them anymore :-( so I'll have to get it running and see how it holds up, or fix it myself. Something wrong with the throttle piece, wont come out of gear but other then that, it all looks sound and ready to rumble.

im gonna keep it fairly simple. the hull is going to be white, black sides, white top and black windscreen. itll have white rego numbers and white name(executioner, as this was the name my dad used to have on the bullet when he was around my age). im gonna try and get BNG689 as my rego. would be cool if both my car and boat has the same rego  I need to do the oil in my gearbox, spark plugs etc. even tho nothing is wrong with it, just needs a service. but fuel gauge will be first. hopefully tomorrow. best thing about the boat is my parents dont know about it yet :D

good to see your keen on it. can you get a cap from a new motor? surely mercury would have something to fit it? you might have to put a towbar on the eseries now

Not sure if something from the newer models would suit or not. I would guess the fuel pumps have changed since 1974 (date of manufacture I found out today). Towings not a problem, I have a turbo hilux as well as the falcon.

One solid colour should be done by the weekend. Aiming to have it done by end of next week.
I've also added a fuel gauge to the fuel tank... We'll see if it works in Afew weeks haha

Very nice! My old man used to do ski racing through the 90s in a 1750 Bullet set up back-to-back style. Won their class at Grafton Bridge to Bridge a few times, Nationals in 97, and won 1st place for the season overall for their class a few times. The boat was sold shortly after the 98 Sydney Bridge to Bridge race.
