lol, my old EB made 110rwkw also (100% stock, starting point). No gas either, just pure HO shitness. It even had a similar wonky "curve" like your readout.

Yeah, I'm over it. I'm not sure if he has done a good job or not but if it cruises good and uses bugger all fuel while on the highway then I'm happy for a while.

I'm pulling the dash over the next day or so to replace the vac distribution block for the climate control to see if that fixes my vent problem. I also took the seat trim off and put it through the wash, they have come up a treat! :yahoo:

The wagon is getting a fully reconditioned gearbox. New Bands/clutches, seals, pump, etc etc etc. Should be sweet as now. I also did a coolent system flush because I was getting a little concerned at how up and down the temp was, end result is sweet as with a new thermostat fresh coolant and some love and care.

Na mate, I got Kirra Automatics to recondition a V8 box he had there. the clutches and band for 3rd and 4th were absolutely fooked. $800 and I was on my way.

I RECOMMEND KIRRA AUTOMATICS FOR ANY AUTO WORK.

The shop that did the tune also replaced the dizzy cap rotor button and coil. Ill take pics tomorrow but Ill bet my left nut that they put a 6cly coil on it. Result is i think its causing dramas.

This wagon should get up and go much harder but it just a matter of nutting it out. I might sell it as the missus hates it (mainly colour) and its ment to be her car.

Looks like a nice car, 5.0's are so much better to drive, even just the way the auto is tuned, seems to be in the right gear a lot more often than a 6.

I think I6 and V8 coils are the same. They look identical and the Crane replacement fits both.

While I'm reading this thread, did you fix the climate control issue? Was it just blowing air out the windscreen?

That's decent enough power for a 5.0, remember they only make 8kw more than an I6 from the factory, and it's hotter in Qld. Plus the dyno isn't a DD in shootout mode, so you can only compare with anything else run that day.

I love the low down torque, the don't fruck with me sound, the convenience, and the deep down warm and fuzzies it gives. the vents are stuck on face and although the climate control will change to windscreen or feet the air is always blowing out the face vents. I don't have the time/money or care factor to fix it as how often do you change it away from your face? The air-con is icy cold and the heater is great so it doesn't bother me.

The torque down low is epic and in the wet is down right scary. Having highway gears doesn't help but your rewarded when you nail it right in the sweet spot.

If I want to have fun ill drive my XR6 but for any other purpose ill drive the wagon.

Have done a bit to the wagon over the past day or so.

-Put the good rotors back on
-Full brake flush with dot5 fluid
-Fit FTR's
-Washed
-de leafed the engine bay
-fitted new tailgate struts

To do list
-4 new ball joints (currently like mortar & pestle)
-Powersteer pump leak fixed (new seal kit)
-New fuel pump to try and sort a gay fuel problem

The wagon has been going really well lately and goes really well on gas, I think Ill see 400km to this tank @ 100% town driving :grin:

However this morning I finished night shift and jumped into my car (its cold in canberra lately) reversed and the front bumper caught on the gutter

broke the small bit under the indicator. Anyhow its got me thinking....standard farimont front bar, EL XR set up or other aftermarket bar. :confused:

Id love the Tickford kit but its the same old issues of what to do with the rear bar.

I might just go with a standard mont bar but fix up the front fender delete the racks and shit off the roof and give it a closed door respray in the same colour. Ill ditch the badging for BA "V8" badge and EL "Fairmont" on the tail gate.

I put my amp under the front passenger seat, and made the sub box removable. Just have to unplug it to get it out.

I really do like the dual exhaust tips. I tried to route a left hand pipe on mine but there is a lot of work rejigging the petrol fuel lines etc out of the way.

Keep up the progress.

A friend borrowed the wagon for a week and a half and the day she gives it back she calles me and tells me she has broken down

So I jump in the car and head down to see what the go is. First thing I notice is the gas converter is frozen... I check the coolent and well there is none. I fill it up and get it home to find one heater hose split behind the manifold :cry:

So I decide to do it properly, I replaced the radiator with a adrad one I had in the garage, I got new hoses to replace the broken one, I changed the low level sensor in the over flow tank as the old one was in 4 pieces. While the engine was half apart I decided to peek under the rocker covers to see what heads are on it. I think there E7's which would explain alot :$

I got it all back together and took it for a run and I have sorted the high temp issue. I cant get it to go high and I tried and tried :thumbsup:

I think some GT40P's and some 3:7's/9's would make her haul ass.

By the looks of the spark plug angle I'd say they are E7.

It should still make more power then that though lol.

from memory the most i could wring out of E7s on 98 ron was 146rwkw. and that was with major mods. your power is about right.

I think it makes more power now with out the unichip but I'm talking maybe 5-10kw which is about 120kws (face palm)

Anyway maybe one day ill get a set of heads but the aim of this wagon was never to go fast, just load it up and go on holidays etc. If I want to go fast ill get in the XR6.

There's been a few go to around 190rwkw with modified E7s, the E7's I currently have for the EF made 195rwkw on an ED XR8 with an Edelbrock Performer manifold and Crane 2030 (I think) cam.
But he spent over a grand on them getting 1.9/1.6 valves, ported etc. You can buy brand name alloy heads for not much more.

When the old owner had the LPG installed the mechanic dropped a bolt and when started caused an epic fail. When he rebuilt it he claimed it needed "new heads", My interpretation is mechanic wanted the heads for himself and swapped them for some shit e7's. There is too many good bits on this car from the extractors/ exhaust, unichip, intake manifold (which is port matched), deleted EGR, upgraded trans coolers, etc etc to only have these heads.

Apparently I has in his words "a towing cam" so I'm wondering how much these heads are holding it back?

Towing cam = stocker with a tighter LSA, I didn't think they really made them for motors designed after 1970 though.

Heads would definitely be holding it back. Does it feel like it hits a brick wall by about 4000rpm?

After fixing the heater hoses behind the manifold (manifold off job) the cruise control wont engage :banghead:

either the cruise motor has passed away, or the cable is playing funny buggers... somthing to keep me entertained on my days off.

Pretty sure I have souced a passenger front guard, bonnet, and a fairmont front bar. That will also keep me broke and busy but will look sweet once finished.
