One guy found a DIY fix, I'll probably give it a go one of these days.

In other news, it seems Sunny is as bad an influence on me as he was 10 years ago. I'll let you guys know when I get it working properly, but the temp location is http://wmcaprice.ipbhost.com/.

Phuck they are picky in that LS1.com.au thread. We've actually had a lot of those problems, just haven't been bothered reporting them as they are so trivial and often intermittent. The 6 speed is a bit shit but you just know it aint no ZF from the moment you drive it from the dealer with only 20km on it, the engine light has come on in ours but dealer reset the codes and problem disappeared, TPM been recal'd twice lol, the steering scroll for radio and CD sometimes (rarely) stops working, handbrake is awkward and tacky, the RPM sits at 1000 on a cold start and the car does tend to want to move off hard even though you're on the brakes but it's literally for seconds only. Very bearable stuff for cars that would probably have over 15,000 individual parts and all that extra technology over a base model.

A few updates.

http://wmcapriceforum.com up and running.

The Invision Board people sure know how to give customer service. Meanwhile, I've submitted the sites to various search engines, what sucks right now is that wmcaprice.com only appears on page two of Google under the search term 'WM Caprice'. I'll have to look into this.

Sunny, I was going to make a joke about your bagging the LS1.com.au whingers then posting on the same thread... HOWEVER. Am I right in saying you are driving the Caprice professionally? Do you mind if I ask how you got licenced to do this? Also does it pay alright?

Yeah my Dad bought a franchise with a chauffeur company. I had to get my Taxi Driver Certificate (DC) after completing a Taxi driver's course. It's about 8 days (can be done part time over 8 Saturdays, which is how I did it). Once you got that you have to buy a VHA/VHB plate for your car so it's a designated Victorian Hire car, which allows you to get the various passes associated with airport pick-ups and so that the car is registered with the VTD as a HC. You can then start your own business or sign your car up with a reputable company by buying a franchise.

It's long hours, sometimes 14 hours from the time I leave my house in the morning to the time I get home, but definitely worthwhile in terms of earning potential.

Cheers for the info Sunny, it's good food for thought as I'm starting to get over tram driving.

Meanwhile I have some news, I went to the Heathcote Test & Tune and achieved the time I was hoping for. Keep in mind it was my first ever time racing at all, and also the first time I've ever given the Caprice full throttle. No burnouts as it grips OK off the line as is. I left traction control on for all runs, not sure if it could potentially do better again.

Run 1: 14.19 - no stalling
Run 2: 13.9-something - as above, plus this time I took out the spare wheel and stalled it up before launch
Run 3: 13.89 - same again. @ 101.99 mph. Reaction time 0.51, by far my best.

To recap the only mod is the mafless tune and OTR. Not really planning on going any further but good to know where I stand.

I put tram driving up there with the top couple of jobs that would be boring as all fuckery. Bus driving closely follows it, but at least you have a steering wheel.

It happens, though fatalities are less common. A tram can weigh up to 50 tonnes for a B class. As a job it varies, can be easy or stressful depending on circumstances. Pay is very reasonable though you have to put up with a lot of abuse sometimes. There'd be no drunken psychos travelling in a VHA Caprice (I hope).

I have seen a certain white EF on St. Kilda Rd twice now, and wanted to jump out and say hello but didn't get a chance.

Yes I've been doing it nearly 2 years now. The time really goes, that's for sure.

Now just a few more pics and then I'm all up to date.

Image
Engine bay with cold air intake and stupid plastic 'turtle shell' thing removed.

Image
These LED parkers used to be on my Eunos 500 all those years ago.

Image
Just prior to my first-ever run, in which a VL turbo kindly went first to show me the way to the exit.

Image
My last run. Am going to scan the time slip for the Garage shortly.

Cheers.

Did ya get around to fixing the noise in the front end? Its common for these to need new strut top bushes + bearings, some were also fitted without spring insulators on the bottom of the strut and swaybar bushes were designed poorly.in the earlier ones.and.they normally.need replacing

Good info there. I'm looking at getting this done with the next service over the next month or 2, and I've found an informative thread on the LS1 forums which I'm using for reference. The beauty of having a car at this age is that at least people know how to fix these bugs.

Cheers.

got to drive one of these today and ive got to say for a "luxury" car its very ordinary, especially after reading the comments here

the interior plastics were very flimsy, bland interior with the light grey carbon dash spears didnt do it for me. I just cant understand how ordinary the interior was for a top of the range late model luxury car

good points were the 6L  and the massive bootspace
