Rare, yes, but when the lighter, quicker TE and TS models are going for the $25-$30k mark, hes really dreaming.

Once its modified, its just another modded Fairlane/LTD.

wow... 100k?

As they say, its only worth what someone is willing to pay.

I remember reading the thread when he bought it, apparently the dealer who was selling it as a trade in, didn't know its rarity and sold it for much less than its true worth... relative to the swb T3's anyway.

Seems like he will be keeping for some time.
As mentioned, 100k could buy you something much more fun, or a much better investment.

Thing is, it's not rare because it was a limited edition. It's rare because no-one bought one new.

Yes, there are people who know what he got it for. It's a lot less than the asking price! An FG FPV off the showroom floor difference actually.....

I think this is the type of person he's looking for...
someone buying it in the hope that it might be the next big dollar auction car.
only to find it'll probably be a dud, and the next seller will just be trying to find a like minded buyer.

Nope...!!!! ;)

Look, I can see where he is coming from with the price, but, I think he's a little early..

The reason he is asking this much is because it is the only Series 3 TL50 ever built.. (plated as a S3 TL50)
The other 2 (which are seen as S3 TL50's) were Series 2 cars with series 3 goodies..(not plated as a S3 TL50)
There were only 58 TL50's made over S1/2/3 so they are quite a lot rarer than a TE or TS.
The price may be justified in say 20+ years, If it were to sell at this price now then it would have to be one hell of an enthusiast..

Now, me as a TL50 enthusiast, WOULD, buy this car..

....... If only he did interest free re-payments for the rest of my life..!!! hahahahahah

I could see it getting close to 100k in 2009, pre-GFC world, where people were supposedly getting 750k for GTHOs.
But after that Phase 3 was turned in at auction at $1.1mil (thats one point one million dollars) asking stupid money for a car is stupid.
100k could buy you a nice unrestored 65 Mustang V8, modified XR6T, clean ZA-ZD Fairlane AND an XE ESP V8.
Or a Phase 1, or a HK/T/G Monaro GTS, or an undriven CV8-Z Monaro (end of the line), or an A9X Torana, or a 993 (last of the dak daks) Porsche 911 Turbo or many other cars.
Not to mention a boosted taxi (XR6T) built in the same year will smoke it.

Thinking that a worked taxi will appreciate in value within the next 30 years is stupid.
My parents had a factory 6cyl ZD Fairlane. Rare, yes. I know where it is, I'll sell it to you for 400k. I''ll polish every part of it with my tongue for 400k. ;)

[Edit] - The last ever Fairlane getting auctioned by Ford at less than the RRP really, REALLY doesn't help the cause...

I believe so.
The 2 Phase 3s that sold for 750k in 2007/08, one had a genuine 500 miles on the clock, and the other was the Byron Burt Ford dealer car that raced in Bathurst 71, which was Wild Violet purple with a white interior.
There was a lot of speculation that the purple one was owned by a GT Club member, and other GT Club members (specifically people who owned Wild Violet cars with white interiors) bid on it to bump the price up, and the 750k never actually traded hands.
That made everyone think their Phase 3 was worth at least 750k, which made everyone else think their shitbox XY was worth 80k. There was a Vermillion Fire XY GTHO that was auctioned in Brisbane in 09, it wasn't anything special, it had done at least 50,000 miles and wasn't a Bathurst car, the owner didn't take the $1.1m bid. At the same auction, another guy bought the HRT427 Coupe and a blueprinted VS GTS-R with delivery kays for 750k.
Prices have settled down a lot since the GFC, but people are still asking more for XW-XYs than a comparable first gen Mustang.
Last I heard, no-one wanted HRT427 for 300k.
