i dont think that will work trav, i believe the GT-P's spokes run right to the end of the rim so you would end up with a cheap looking rim

Those wheels aren't right for it. The dark paint needs bright wheels to go with it... but not chrome!

Re: get_an_eb_today? Update: Serpentine Conversion

Postby get_an_ea_today » August 20th, 2010, 8:51 pm

Well having this car for almost 3 years now its about time I started some more modifications lol.

So to get the ball rolling I scored a running ef gli with brand new federal tires and a new radiator for $230 + $65 for a car trailer + 1 carton of superdry to a mate to tow it = so $335 smackoes all up  I had it for about a day until I stripped the parts I needed for a Serpentine Belt Conversion.

Image
Image

I then got all the parts I needed together and gave the dirty bits a bit of a clean up. I should also note I used an xh tensioner and belt, it was alot easier then stuffing around with the aircon thingos cutting them in half ect.

Image

I then started dismantling the eb. Heres a quick pic of before.

Image

Several hours later I got to this stage.

Image
Image

One shockingly dirty old bitch haha so after a bit of a scrub it started to look like this.

Image
Image

Now the fun part - putting all the new bits in :D It was all going great until I realized I need to grind a bit of the front alternator bracket off annnd I didnt have a grinder :banghead: So after a lot of stuffing around it got all sorted and now its turned to this.

Image

It took from 6am to 5pm on saturday to do but it was worth it, mainly for the power steering cause the last couple of weeks the power steering belt would come off or turn over or just snap and I got sick of replacing the bloody thing so I haven't had power steering for almost 2 weeks and my shoulders were killing me haha.

More mods coming soon. Thanks for reading.

Serp belt is the best cheap mod to do to an EA-D.

Good mod with the serp conversion. I did the same thing on the EA about 14 months ago after throwing about a dozen power steering belts. One of the better mods.

Nice work. I hope you replaced that balancer seal though and didn't just clean it.

Cheers man, but im pretty sure your effort after taking off that hose off was waaaaaaaaaaay better haha

No I didnt realize I had to, because in the tutorial I read it didnt mention that. Would it be worth taking it off again and replacing? its not doing anything unusual.

Ahh ok that makes sense. I thought it was just 18years of gunk on there. Well I was thinking I want to rebuild the motor in the ef and put that in later, hopefully with some cheap boost lol.

bugger. already got one of them. the issue with the 3.08's are they use a smaller housing so you cant upgrade the diff gears as they just wont fit :(

I might throw in a new stereo for it and do the bushes and ball joints soon and that's probably about it haha
