Sif those tyres would have lasted for over 30 seconds more of that shit! Good thing, cos I don't exactly drive around with a trolley jack in the car!
Was well fun, but would have been nice if it lasted a bit longer (that's what she said!), shitty Sava tyres!
Thanks for audience Josh!
Glad the pos puts on a decent show, though I probably need a bit more practice if I am to be up to competition level! I'd love to grab the one your brother took on the good camera. No youtube though! I'll have to bring a usb stick or something next time I swing past.
On other news, picked up a set of stock extractors and cats that apparently came off a T3 which had only done 1000kms at the time. I am going to put together a stock exhaust system for this thing again in an attempt to pass an emissions test. I spoke to an engineer during the week, and after telling him the specs and what I have done, he said emissions is my only worry. He would engineer the rest of the car without an issue. He said the bigger brakes help and that there is no intercooler, which means no structural changes to the body. The quote I got from him was $1500 for the emissions test, plus $50 for a noise test, and $695 for the cert. I just need to check to see if fitting a stock system will mess with my tune.
So, if anyone has a lead on a stock cat back for an AU IRS, holla at a brutha!

Although I seem to remember my little brother getting a stock cat back for his AUII Futura from Ford for less than $400, so I guess it depends on the part. Kinda wish I kept the one that was on the car when I bought it now. Might go see my exhaust bloke and see what he has on his scrap pile!

will the exhaust make any difference to the emissions though?i thought only the cat would change that?

Re: Ev's AUII XR8 manual - now with boost!
Yeah, the cats are for emissions, the stock exhaust if to pass noise test. I am going to check at work when I get a chance, but I am 99% sure it would be more than 90db with the 3" exhaust. Plus, my current exhaust is all welded together down to the first muffler. So it will be easier to just swap the entire setup.

Re: Ev's boosted AUII XR8 manual
Yeah, so I was right about that. I have the sound meter from work today, and it showed 98db on start-up with the meter on the ground about two feet behind the car. Gave it a few stabs and it maxes at 104bd! I was going to get my housemate to help me do a drive by test, but I guess there isn't much point. I need a stock exhaust to pass noise, and its looking like the cheapest and easiest option is to just get one made.
Also, I spoke to Dion recently, and he said once I get said exhaust he can make me a tune specifically to pass emissions! He'll lean it out, especially at 3000rpm and at each legal speed limit. Hoping to get this going sooner than later, as its looking like I may have another over seas trip happening later this year too. Hong Kong, and maybe Europe depending on how much cash/leave I have.

Re: Ev's boosted AUII XR8 manual
So your getting this engineered
I want to do the same thing to the ED but I would have to use a STD computer and no plenum. The engineers was also happy to pass the rest saying thats structual intergrity was not a issue being a 93 ED and that the rest seemed up to scratch (i.e bigger brakes and what not). But the main concern was a emissions test which was going to cost me $2700
So thought **** that
But my question is who is your engineer and where did you get that price of 1500 cause I would pay that lol

Project car: Turbo ED build- Barra swapped, 60lb dekkas, 400lph walbro, turbo side intake, big cooler, el gt brakes, locked 4.11s, btr'd, smoothed engine bay, sunroof, fairmont GHIA interior. Chasing 10 sec quaters!
Re: Ev's boosted AUII XR8 manual
Well, that is the plan anyway, if it actually works out is another story! I got the same deal about brakes and no structural changes, but I spoke to the engineer again this afternoon and he is adamant that the stock T Series cats I picked up won't cut the mustard. He said I need a pair of brand new FG cats to give myself the best chance. So it looks like my exhaust 'downgrade' is going to cost more than the one on there now! Also, the $1500 I was quoted is test only, plus $700 for the cert itself. Anyway, his details are as follows:

Re: Ev's boosted AUII XR8 manual
Well, it is looking more and more like a futile exercise! I just spoke to the bloke Tristan suggested, and he doesn’t want to go anywhere near it! First thing he said was emissions test, and that it will cost $4k minimum, so he’s out. Paul keeps telling me that I need to get brand new FG cats in order to pass emissions, and list price for them at Fraud is min $750 each. Plus I need a much smaller exhaust to pass sound. So yeah, enthusiasm is fleeting very quickly. I am very close to just up and throwing in the towel on the whole thing all together! Not the car itself, just the idea of getting it engineered. I don’t particularly want to spend another $5k on it and not even really have anything to show. That money is much better spent on a T56 conversion!

I definitely agree, Paul is my new best friend!! He has definitely been the most helpful so far, and is pretty keen to get me certified. Very patient man, he even did a bit of chasing up for me earlier this week when I was misled with incorrect information. It’s just down to money now really, which is looking like at least another $4k even if it all passes first go. Like I said, all money that can be spent on better cogs!
Pfft, what pics man? Nothing has changed on it since the last shots, other than more stone chips and another inch of dirt! Although I did do a tiny bit of hose and cable tiding around the blower the other day, hardly with documenting though.

Yeah very nice man, i can understand you frustration 4k is a lot of money on a car worth what yours is worth. If it were a 100k GT40 or a F6 then yeah i could understand money is better spent else where. i guess the worst that can happen is a defect and you have to remove it all and then put it back on later.ClassicAU wrote:I definitely agree, Paul is my new best friend!! Re: Ev's boosted AUII XR8 manual
Defect is nothing, like you said, that is easy fixed. No, worst case is that I have a single car or at fault accident, my insurance claim is denied, and I am left with nothing and have to start all over again!! That is what I am worried about the most. My new cover is with Shannons, and it is agreed at $19k! I would hate for it to be written off and I get none of that.
Haha, I will one day. Actually, that day will be next Saturday in prep for All Ford Day! Might even see if I can find a detailing place to give it a good going over.

Re: Ev's boosted AUII XR8 manual
Move to QLD, $120 for a mod plate
Re: Ev's boosted AUII XR8 manual
It is very much looking like this will be the outcome. (What John said, not moving to QLD!) I was kinda hoping to get away with engineering this thing for less than $3k, but that is very unlikely. Unless I can get the cats and exhaust I need for basically nothing, it ain’t going to happen!
So, I was thinking about something else, and I know I will probably cop it for this, but where’s the fun in keeping it to myself!
How hard would it be to convert this thing to an automatic? Especially as this is a factory manual? I assume I would need to change the ECU to an auto item, but what about the hardware? Never being auto, would I be missing things like oil lines and speedo sensors and the like? The reason I am even considering this, is that I would imagine it would be much cheaper than a TKO/T56 but still be stronger than the T5. Would that be a fair assumption? Plus, it would make for a much nicer work hack as well!

The wiring is all there i think.
but ecu's are vin locked but ur flash tuner i think can fix that (i know they can on ba-fg)
and yeah if u get oil lines and stuff from an au u will have no dramas.
its all possible but i think u would get sick of it.
i hated the auto in my au as it was shiftkitted and so on.
but if u want to do it look into how much an au v8 auto with wiring and ecu is.
and make sure all wiring from ecu to engine bay is there.
or bang a c10 in it haha.

Sell? NEVER!! This one comes with me to the grave!
There is nothing wrong with it at all! Everyone keeps telling me my T5 is on borrowed time, but it still feels fine to me. I mean, there is a little noise again, but it sounds more like thrust bearing than actual gears. I think it just needs a new, better spec clutch. It’s just nice to know what my options are if/when the gearbox decides to give up the ghost. The only compromise I have since boost is it’s a bit of a pig in first and second gear traffic, and I figured an auto would rectify this. Plus, now that is has a little bit of power, it wouldn’t be so much of a slug compared to if it were still NA and auto. I never said I was going to do it, just putting it out there!
I’ll gladly do a swap for your EA Tristan, but shells only, we keep our own running gear!

Re: Ev's boosted AUII XR8 manual
Thanks Todd, I am enjoying everything else about this car too much to just give up like I used to. I have decided that even if I ever get my own garage, or won tatts lotto, I would just get another car and this would become the project.
I did think about just looking for another T5, but as Parf said, they are pretty hard to come by. Plus, I have already rebuilt the one that’s in there, so there would be no point spending anymore on a T5. The TKO boxes seem to be fairly readily available, and also much easier to adapt than a T56. I was told I could even keep my clutch with a TKO. So I guess that would most likely be the path when the time comes.
That would be all well and good Hus, if it wasn’t for the fact that Shannon’s knows about all the mods on the car, including the blower! So all I can do now is not stack, and if I do, hope they don’t blame the blower for it!

I agree. Your T5 might last another 3 years so in that time start collecting all the necessary peripherals for T56, then the box. If the T5 dies earlier at least you've got less to buy at the time.

Re: Ev's boosted AUII XR8 manual
Thanks for the suggestions guys. Unfortunately, it looks like any and all plans are now on hold, as I was politely given the arse from my job yesterday afternoon. I love how they wait till I’ve done a whole fvckin day before telling me too!
Anyway, after this, I have decided to make a change and am hoping to move away from IT all together. I have actually put in an application at my best mates work, for a Diesel Mechanic apprenticeship, because why the fvck not! I have spent all my money on cars all my life, so why not get paid to do it instead. Plus, it will be awesome to learn how to do a lot more mechanical work myself! I know I will be taking a fair pay cut, but I am over jumping from job to job because I am obviously not fit for IT support. Just wish it didn’t take me so long to realise it.

Re: Ev's boosted AUII XR8 manual
i thought the only diference between 4.0l and 5.0l t5's was the input shaft? be easier to mod the shaft and source easy(ier) to find 4.0l t5sParfrey wrote:You could stockpile them but V8 T5's are $$$ and rare..

Re: Ev's boosted AUII XR8 manual
don't take the cut too personally, if you worked for a medium-large company its usually people pulling strings from other positions without knowing half a clue what the fk they are doing that results in IT firererings - unless you were just shit lol, but you would usually be told that kinda thing straight out in IT...
IT support is usually the ass end of IT anyway. if you don't progress in a year or two fk it off and do something you actually enjoy or challenges you in a different way to keep you wanting to come to work everyday.
i was fired from my IT support role after a year of working my ass off putting in 150% with results to show but it just didn't feel right. the two other ppl that got fired went back into IT support and changed to a different area in their new company within a month or two lol and i changed to physical labour based jobs. might not be as stable career wise just yet, but **** its been alot easier going to work compared to being in IT.
chances are you've learned alot of skills and what not that you can easily transfer to other roles which other people in that field may not have, so fk it, have a crack i say! lol
how much would you be getting paid as an app. diesel mechanic?
