Depends if your selling it with or without reg and roady. If its in as good a nick as you could push $2000 with reg/roady but depends where you sell it. More likely to convice some youngster about to get there P's with no idea about cars to pay more than someone off the forums.

halo wrote:are you from NSW or Vic? Vic you have some power to weight ratio thing, in NSW it is no modifications that boost engine performance or that require an engineereing certificate.. so I am pretty sure extractors and an air filter, full 2.5 exhaust kinda stuff is illegal till im off my Ps.

If what you have said here about NSW is correct (and i'm assuming when you say you cant boost engine performance you mean you cant "open" the engine) then extractors, air filter and 2.5" exhaust WONT be illegal. Things like cam, pistons ect probably would be but how could an officer tell?? I havent heard of any state making a 2.5" cat-back illegal (apart from noise limitations of course) or changing the intake piping.

yeh of course.. after all with the non turbo and v8 laws the i6 falcon is the best thing going round under 10k for us NSW p platers... they're going for around 2k on carsales, so i rekon with the rims, stereo, new tyres, new breaks etc etc all new i could push 3.5-4k.. which is a 2k profit quite nice...

i think fitting the extractors requires an engineering cert so its illegal. FFS, we can't even fir diferent seats because it needs an engineers cert for "safe driver viewpoint" reasons.. like you said, noone would know, but if i run into a merc i want to be sure that the 3rd party insurance is gonna cover it and not be voided.

lol reason i asked is i treat it as a sorta project car and was pissed cos i spent 3 hours on it all for nothing today...

Eng Cert for extractors???????? i'd check that coz i've never heard it before. You'll be fine. As with insurance, call your company. I found extractors, exhaust and lowering didnt change my premium at all.

Yeh I might actually give the RTA a visit to see what i can and cannot do.. Btw I have the stock EA MPI engine, if I were to put in an AU later the extractors could be transferred right? I think they can, just checking though since I have 2 options, one of which is to rebuild with low comp AU motor and turbo, so I wouldn't wanna waste money on the EA engine if it won't all fit... (other option is a differnt car)

with these laws in NSW us L platers have no power or engine limitations as what we can drive until we get our P plates then the limitations kick and then we need a exemption to drive v8s or turbos or so the rta women said 2 me, so you dont need the exeption unless u are on ur p plates

i hav been driving my parents XR8 since i got my Ls in april 07 and i hav had cops following me and they have said nothing to me,
and if you check the back of ur licence it should hav somthing about conditions, all mine says is "note - Learner restrickted to zero BAC limit" says nothing about restrictions to engines or anything along those lines

you can drive anything on your l's, i drove a twin turbo HQ ute, 700rwkw l plates up and all, once your on your p's you can get exepmtent(spelling?) if you have a car that is turbo/supercharged/v8, BUT if you get pulled over for doing anything iliigal or get 1 ticket your loose your p's and your car.

Once again, I gotta give props to these forums. I guarantee you, if you posted that you've lost your licence twice on fordmods, you'd be neck-deep in insults. We, on the other hand, seem to understand shit happens.

ANYWAY,

I'm a tad confused... Are the temp gauges in your cars backwards to mine? Jake said his temp gauge DROPPED from R to A, whereas on mine, going R to A would be heating up?? In other words, cold is on the left (closest to N) and hot is on the right (closest to L).

Back on the topic of extractors: are extractors classified as engine boosting? I reckon if you got silver HPC on 'em, you wouldn't get picked up for it. Maybe even try to get the stock manifold to cover them? I'm from Canberra btw - so no real restrictions of P-plater cars at all. Cops don't even look for an intercooler when you get pulled over here.

TOTALLY AGREE.. the number of forums i've been given shit from, labelled as a young hoon etc etc... fair enough I sped, got caught at 42kms over but it was a road as straight as a tack at 3am with not even a mosquito in sight (cop car hiding behind a thick pole with radar...), and believe me I learned my lesson with 1k in fines and a 6 month ban. Now i drive straight as a tack... But hey, your only young once, you make mistakes, have the adrenaline rush, take on shitbox no muffler pulsars etc.. I never did it to the extent I could crash or put my/others life at risk.. but back on the topic, you tell the other forums you were goin 61 in a 60 zone and its like WW3.. fukn kents.. which is why this is my fave forum, great community of people even though I've neva met anyone aha..

anyway airved, cold is on the left, hot on the right, but it wouldn't matter since it doesn't work..

and re the extractors I'm not doing SHIT until i find out its legality, alkready been suspended, paid a grand for kevin rudd to be chaufered around in a POS commodore, i don't want any more fines/illegalitys. at least re cars ;)

Whoa! My bad, sorry to repeat everything mentioned above, I was too blind to notice this thread had a second page!

I can't see if anyone answered your question about extractors, but it's a yes - EA-AU i6's can share extractors.

Good point about the damn revenue raising! Government should just let me start up a tab which I pay when I retire... Not that I've been unlucky enough to be caught doing on-road illegal activities just yet (probably good since I haven't even had my P's a year yet).

I was being sarcastic :)

But seriously, all of Australia should enfore ACT's rule of 'no hidden speed cameras'. Here, I heard it's actually illegal for a police car to hide, say behind a pole. All speed cameras must be made obviously visible... But it doesn't apply to unmarked cars driving around.

As i said earlier extractors arent an engine modification hence not illegal P plate drivers. Most expensive problem you could have exhaust wise is a hollow cat. Up to $10k. Other than that if its not too loud you'll be fine. Just drive it normally and you wont have any problems.

I had a feeling they reversed the hot and cold sides of the gauge. I reckon it makes more sense to go BLUE NORMAL RED, left to right... not that it really matters much.

dumb shit :) i was goin 102 in a 60 zone but it was anzac bridge, which is 3 lanes each way, 1.5 kims straight as a tack, no traffic.. not like a 60 zone in your local street... even though its bullshit to get 3 months for that, I had it coming anyway for shit i didn't get caught doing, like racing hoon pulsars :) and getting home from parra in 20 mins cos i thought i was a mad **** having this chick i was seein out there :) lesson learned tho, don't speed - safety yes (although i've never had an accident but a couple close calls) but primarily because you can't get away with it forever and the fines/suspensions are too harsh... save the speed for the track i guess.

I'd just say "it's always been like that". Doesn't it depend on how long you've had your P's to what sort of car you drive? I heard something like P-platers who got their licence after June 07 or something can't drive turbo cars.

nah your right, if you owned a car or had your license before that date you were sweet.. unfortunately for me i'm not in that category.. and yeh I agree with you about the coppas not knowing... but like I said earlier I've had so much bullshit from the cops in suspension and fines that I don't wanna risk it.. got another suspension starting 22nd of the month for 3 months again..

But yeh, I was considering buying a galant vr4 which is AWD turbo by mitsubishi (basically the EVO 0) and scraping the dohc turbo intercooled off the side but if I got caught, i did my research and its not like you only get defected for eg. too low, its a big fine and suspension also.. which i don't need.... so I got the falcon and I'm happy as :) except for when I gotta refuel :( but gas coming :):):)

aha well im way more lucky im in the city of sydney, about 20 mins drive from the heart of it... still, by the time you get up to 5th gear you just have to put your brakes on and stop, go back into 1st and do it all over again, which eats up way more petty than highway driving.. plus when you wanna give it ago its the same as usual.. but yeh, i filled up $97 and it lasted about 10 days, mind you I wasn't driving as much as I usually do and it was all below 2500 revs the majority of the time... trip meter and odo is broken so i dunno what mileage i'm getting... I'd say around 350kms a tank or so though, which isn't too good.. about 3.5 kms per $1 so that's like 5-6 kms per litre which is pretty poor IMO.. mind you she was born in 1989.

Man, I'm off to uni next year. I think I'll be in pretty much the same situation, but I don't have to drive as far. Petrol would probably cost me about $70 a fortnight. I can see why you'd want to change it if you've gotta go a fair distance, and in Sydney too. City driving ftl.

without going to the rta, here are the details:

learners: Do the prohibited vehicle conditions affect learner drivers?

No. As learners can only drive under supervision, the conditions will not apply. A learner can attempt the driving test in a prohibited vehicle but is restricted from driving prohibited vehicles once a provisional licence is issued. Provisional licence holders are not allowed to drive prohibited vehicles, even if supervised.

p platers: Rules for the modification of engines are available in the Vehicle Standards Information Sheet VSI 06. Any vehicle with engine performance modifications requiring an engineer’s certification for registration purposes is banned under the prohibited vehicle scheme.

vsi06:
'owner certified mods' acceptable: optional equipment for the vehicle (eg ghia stuff on a gli) - power steering, fog lights

re engine mods: http://www.rta.nsw.gov.au/registration/ ... v_2007.pdf p2

I would call changing the exhaust an "owner cert mod" since they list the exhaust in a full engine swap. Therefore you're fine and i keep my extractors :D
