xr6t: How much power can a stock BTR handle?

Hey guys,

I'm a newbie here to boosted falcon, sent here by a mate (nut347). My question to is to all the BAII xr6 turbo owners that have had the BTR 4 speed, what power have you managed to pull out with this box failing? Any minor mods that would help to keep it alive? All I have been told by alot of transmission places is that wait until it blows, then rebuild! Any help would be great!

hey.

By BTR 4 Speed im guessing you mean the stock 4 speed of a BA auto. BTRs are strengthened 4sp boxes.

Anyway stock auto you can get away with 270rwkw with a good tune. But then again its bound to go at some point. Put a trans cooler on to help extend the life of the auto.

Although you are right, 270rwkw is what a stock BTR will handle..

I think by BA it was being made by ION or BTR Ion or something.

270's a fair bit. They struggle on stock power lol. I've had that many stock 4 bangers with all sort of issues.

A good cooler and a valve body upgrade or something to stop it from slipping will help it last a while..

I've killed a few but the one in my EF has lasted the longest and had the biggest thrashing.. it shifts pretty hard all the time I'm guessing that's why its still going!

Are the V8 BTRs made any stronger than the i6 ones? (stock)

We have a few making 330+ rwkw and still surviving, but it is luck of the draw with a modded car, especially when these boxes can fail with a stock set up.

e series are alot lighter hence less strain and more power allowed.

From what I've been told (from a gearbox bloke) E series BTRs have metal oil pump gears and a higher pressure oil pump.

B Series ones have plastic oil pump gears and a shitty low pressure pump. So the gearbox gets hot quicker, oil thins out easier and eventually melts the pump gears.

I'm just going off what he told me, I'm happy for someone to correct me.

i herd similar, to cut down on trans noise they have shitier gears for the oil pump etc.. i think the v8s have different bands? just going off what ive read on the internet, and was it the ed trans has a higher pressure pump than all of the BTR's?

also the controller or program if it is not a manualised box has a huge impact on how long the box will last.

Earlier boxes have wider/thicker oil pump gears and sun gear, they have more contact area which is why they are stronger, this is about the only thing that can be done to strengthen a late model box at present.

This thinner components were done to make the box more efficient and to have slightly better fuel consumption and meet stricter emission rules

my auto building mate also told me this (he rebuilds em every day)

he says that e series boxes fail from heat more then anything standard trans coolers are not enough

he reccomends an aftermarket cooler with its own fan for it as thermos come in mid burnout and the auto is already very hot and your not moving much lol

how can i make a btr and stally work behind a carbied 5.slow?

im putting a manual in my daily and the auto in it is real good plus has the 3k convertor. is there a way to make a brt run with a carbie car?

or is it impossible with out tps etc
