Too bad it has to be a ute, cos I know of a proven 13 second blown AU XR8 sedan in good nick within your price range! ;)

Yea mate i reckon thats what ill do when i get bored next week. Just gotta do some research how much petrol they use if its alot more something like my old vy prob burn that idea... might go to AFF for that not much useful information here.. glad i didnt bandwagon and get myself banned :)

Best way.
To me, a BA XR8 4sp are damn sluggish and thirsty in standard form. Last time I drone one, it felt as bad as a stocky VT/VX LS1, which is bad!

Yep they are slow and thirsty the early ones... my BA XR8 would get 300km max out of a tank.

Yeah it was terrible, that's why so many are on gas.

The FG is sooo much better, 13ltrs/100km manual must help also.

Fark yea manual helps but that is a big difference. I was gonna test drive one this week. but with that economy dunno if its even fucken worth it!!! i can live with slow and average economy but 300kms is lunacy. Why would anyone drive one. I might jump on one if its on gas.

Eh just **** all on the market atm to be honest.

Eh still no purchase on the ute/daily front.

So in the mean time i thought id share some pics of my Calais.

Just finished relocating the coils and ecu so i can run some tall sheetmetal rocker covers (AKA Rocket covers) without seeing the ugly coils on top. Followed John_LS1s patented design lol (props to John for doing and showing alot of stuff to get this done) alot cheaper then the relocation kits harrop sell!!!
Im sure its alot easier with their kit but all in all its doable yourself just need a bit of time and theres heaps of little tasks/things to do/modify to get it all right. Im really happy with the look prob get a sheetmetal power steering reservoir and a shiny strut brace and that will be all the engine tarting up i do for a while.

As hiding smoothing the rest of the things is BIIIG time and Effort.

Nah - ran a 12.4 when it had 318rwkw...did a few more things since then which saw a bit more drivability (playing around with boost control) and netted 325rwkw...hasn't seen the strip since! Have had problems launching on boost - hopefully sort this out once the windsor is finished.

Motor for the TE hoping for ~300 atwm but with standard gears and converter, not looking at setting any records. Really don't know what to expect from it TBH.

Hanging to see yours and Johns go !

Ah yea fair enough dare i say with that power yours has alot more then a 12.4 in it. Yea mine wont be record breaking but meh it sounds lumpy shakes and makes all the right noises and drops a patch what more could you want hahaha

Im more interested to see johns go but that wont be for a while motor has to come out.

I reckon im gonna put off running till next weekend mate if your keen? Im keen to go fishing this weekend and already planned to leave fri arvo so meh to the drags.

Well after a decent amount of looking at shit utes in the cheap brackets... got over looking at absolute nuggets that needed alot of work. Decided to spend a bit more then 10! still didnt wanna spend big on bf and so on. Got another BA xr6t 2004 bit later model then the old one makes **** all diff... but its low kms, like new inside, decent outside only a few tiny marks prob almost better nic then my calais (because black shows everything!). Put a deposit on today and will pick it up next weekend when bloke gets the rwc. Couldnt really be stuffed with rwc and rego of interstate cars this one came with 12months reg too.

Extras are hardlid, dyno tune, 42lb injectors, and upgraded fuel pump.

Cant wait to pick it up. Prob keep this one for a decent while.. the other ba was never gonna hang around long was getting a bit high in the kms needed alot of things fixed. Fingers crossed this one holds up for the next few years.

Cheers mate yea i wanted something different to silver and wanted to avoid the horrid colours like toxic etc.. dont like blue print or acid rush haha i kinda wanted a purple one.. never really seen a ute in the colour looked alright in pics but really the colour pops in real life something different i guess. Being a bright colour yea im hoping i wont have to clean it very often... i looked at a black xr6t ute but after washing my vz and it looking filthy 20 mins later yesterday im kinda glad i dont have 2 black cars@@

it does look hothouse green but doesnt seem as common in the utes as every 2nd vy ss ute is hothouse.

Yea ill get some more pics of it when i get it next weekend those are just a few of the shit carsales pics.

Eh its even harder to find a clean ute and in the cheaper price bracket too... ive seen a fair share of sedans for 10-11 that appear cleanish on carsales anyway... but all the utes are trashed... Bit like the old vu ss ute i doubt theres a clean one left out there!

I havent really looked through his reciepts... but it felt about as good as a stock f6. Its not gonna be anything huge he got the injectors and pump then found out the ecu controller whatever thingo could not be tuned anymore they upgraded to the new one or whatever so he never bothered spending more on a new ecu thing. Probably a good thing too dont want too much power going through a 4 speed. Ill find out when i pick it up out of interest.

I do know a few years back that was the case and now the old ones cant be tuned without buying a new xcal 3 or whatever it is so makes sense i guess.

It's definitely a lot easier to keep clean than darker colours, my EF could be covered in filth and still shine in light.

It's definitely a lot easier to keep clean than darker colours, my EF could be covered in filth and still shine in light.

Cheers mate! Yea its prob like my old regency red el was really bright just never really looked dirty.

Plans are to get rid of the hardlid (i know they look good but they make a practical car not practical!! my previous ute i woulda been screwed with a hardlid), get a bigger cooler, i really hate ba series 1 rims so i wanna do something about that... maybe cheap deep dish 18s/19s like starcorp etc see what comes up no rush has brand new tyres, and the put my slimline sub etc in, prob a tiny drop in suspension on the back and that will be it mate. Spend as little as possible its already good just drive it and enjoy it. I cant stand blowing money on mods on 2 cars so ill be on ebay as i always am if i see some bargains ill grab em always wanted an fpv wheel too and just the fpv dash gauges.

Also ill prob kit it out for camping a bit more run some power to the tray for a fridge, just little things like that.

Cheers Justin and Damo.
