Newbie- Need suggestions

Postby TickfordLover » June 6th, 2012, 4:07 pm

Hey guys :) New member here and a passionate ford lover. I'm only a student still but was wondering what you guys suggest doing to my 1999 AU Tickford XR6. It already has a new air filter, extractors and stainless steel exhaust. Cheers :)

looks reasonably well optioned so i wouldn't do much to it at all.
i assume forced induction is out of the question given you're a student, and at best on your P's.

save the $$ to upgrade when you can, or turbo it :P

Ahaha yeah, it's a cop magnet as it is. They bloody swarm on my cause they can hear the exhaust (it's really loud :yahoo: ). I'm not sure the engine would handle a turbocharging but I'm not sure? Has anyone had experience turbocharging a 4.l VCT tickford engine? :?:

Welcome!Nice Ride, Good to see some new members.
A few people have on here, not sure how many AU's Though. It can be done, only if done Properly though. If you Rush the job and don't take time to prepare the engine for the turbo it wont last very long.
Seeing you're on you L's and going to P's (?).. its gonna be a long few years before you can legally drive a turbo, so i wouldn't worry about this now. Enjoy the car, enjoy being able to drive it legally without the feeling that every time you see a cop he's gonna look under the bonnet and find the turbo and with that goes your license.

Thanks mate :)

Yeah, I doubt it would get past my insurance either aha. I'm getting my Ps soon as I have a late September bithday :|
I'm in Perth and it's still legal to drive turbo on Ps atm? There was aa legislation trying to be passed to ban turbo, supercharged and anything over 6 cylinders but that kinda fell through I think. They should really look at power:weight ratio if they do anything like that though. I do enjoy this a lot though :) It accelerates surprisingly fast for an older car. :P
