Turbo Windsor Street/Drag EB Fairmont Sleeper

Postby thredwa » July 16th, 2012, 9:40 pm

After recently becoming a member on boostedfalcon i knew i needed a turbo E series of some form.

After missing out on a turbo 4.0 EB XR6 i seen this rig pop up on ebay and bought it.

Im not here to take credit for someone elses build as the previous owner has spent alot of money and time trying to get it completed. instead i hope to perfect it and get some time behind the wheel as a daily and 1/4 mile sleeper.

i bought it minus trim and wheels. Also the F250 turbo has done a turbo seal so ive purchased a GT4202 to take its place.

heres the details:

njected 5.0L block + main stud girdle
SCAT forged crank
SCAT forged H-beam rods
MAHLE forged dished pistons -26cc
ELDERBROCK performer rpm Alloy heads (NO EGR)
CROW custom ground Hyd roller cam (specs avaliable)
CRANE hyd lifters
YELLA TERRA stud mount rockers
ROLLMASTER double row adjustable chain set
HIGH ENERGY sump
High volume oil pump
Ballanced and blue printed. approx 8.5-1 compresion.

Other engine related parts include

Haltech E11v2 engine managment system with 3bar map
800cc injectors
billet fuel rails
TURBO SMART adjustable fuel regulator
BOSCH 044 pump + surge tank
Custom tig welded turbo manifolds.
TURBO SMART 48mm external waste gate
600x300x90 air to air cooler
Stainless cooler pipes with TURBO SMART silicone joiners.
3.5inch stainless dump to 3inch stainless exhaust system.
Garrett tp38 turbo (Rebuild needed)

Vehicle is fitted with tremic T5 from a au xr8 with a HD ceramic EXTREME clutch.

Diff is a rebuilt 28spline LSD

Quality 2pac respray in Mercury silver, new NOLATHANE bushes and trailing arms and new shocks

Makes 309rwkw on 10psi with run in tune.

hope to make alot more with new turbo

Have thought about auto as I've got a fairly decent C4 sitting there but don't think I could bring myself to putting it in. Main reason I bought it is cause I wanted a fun manual car as my other one has a powerglide and gets a bit boring. Realize it'll never be as fast with the manual but it'll be good fun trying

When your pitting the 3rd t5 in it, on the 3rd weekend in a row you might be able to bring yourself to do it ha ha. I had a t5z, never did a skid, thought I took it easy, lasted 2-3000 ks, broke 3rd.

Mad car man, a lot of work has gone into it.

Geez nobody has faith in these T5 boxes,
It's put up with a couple weeks of thrashing on the street but it's only got a small tyre and tends to wheelspin a fair bit. Prob different story once it hooks up

Ive gone through a few T5s, all in the same car, it was a modified 6 which was making no where near as much power as this car, it blew 3rd up a week after i installed a NOS kit and demoilished 2 others without the NOS, everytime they blew i was giving them a hard time but that was only with 155rwkw but a 100 shot of NOS so i couldnt imagine a T5 enjoying 300+ rwkw. All in all they arent a horrible box i just wouldnt bother with big power.

Smash first-second, baby 2-3 and pretty much 3rd entirely, then back into it in 4th.
You'll break it no doubt lol but you'll get your money's worth if you pretend you don't have a 3rd gear lol.
Looks like its a fun bit of gear!

Thats fvckin epic as hell bro, awesome pickup! Dont listen to the haters, I have been running my car boosted for months now, and no issues with the gearbox at all! Plenty of skids, a day of passes at the track (including a few with slicks) and it still feels great. Mind you, i did rebuild it just before i boosted the car! :p

Nice car!

As others have said the box is very much the weak link, if you're keen to keep the manual (and I would be too!) start saving for a TKO or T56. Unfortunately they're a pricey conversion on the V8s but being secure in the knowledge that you can sidestep the clutch in any gear and not have to worry is priceless in my opinion!
Image

Look at your car. Now back to mine. Now back to yours. Now back to mine. Sadly, yours isn't mine. But if you stopped buying dodgy cars and bought an ED, yours could be like mine. Look down. Back up. Where are you? ...You're on BoostedFalcon, reading the signature your signature could be like! Anything is possible when your car looks like my car... I'm on a computer.

It's just under $6k for a full T56 conversion from Mal Wood, I already priced it up. Would be well worth it on this combo.

Car looks pretty good, keen to see how good it is on the track :)

Is that a hydraulic setup?

When I priced it for my brother and myself (when I had my au) it was close to 9k with all the pedal setup and so on.
My brother got lucky and got everything off Dan then just got flywheel starter and bellowing from mal wood.
Mal wood are great to deal with though so just email them.
Cheers josh.

That was retaining the cable setup although I have had bad experience with hydraulic. Mal Wood was good and gave me all the info about the conversion as far as parts etc that I would need which was great. Maybe with the AU it has different things needed for it. Cant you modify std clutch pedal for hydraulic use?
