LOL Dylan, very good mate! Dan, you laugh, but if someone took mine for half decent money, you'd be getting a phone call from me pretty quickly! I don't actually mind VX's, and I like the sleeper-ness of yours. Cheers DJ, as I said, I am more pissed about having my day cut so short after such a long drive!
Thanks Josh, I guess you're right man, its not the end of the world, just a belt. Need to get onto Tim from Raptor tomorrow and sort a few things out. Mainly to see if a better/stonger belt is available, and also a proper cooling system for it. I'll stop being a sook, just wanted some decent time on the track! I actually had a decent suggestion from a mate, saying if I was to do a track day, I'd be better off running NA. Less worry, plus more power is not all that necessary anyway. He did make a good argument. Although boosting down the straigh past people was pretty epic!

6250 or something?
maybe a slightly lower limiter would help the blower? 5800 or so? I doubt it would make much power over 5500 anyway.

Gees, I didn't realise the stock limiter is that high! Dion must have lowered it then, cos I'm pretty sure its no higher than 5800rpm, which I thought was stock anyway. But like I said, I limiter bash the thing on the street all the time, would have had to have been a massive coincidence to just happen to let go on the track!

Nope, no limiter smashing on the track, though I did do some engine braking into a couple of corners. I was also getting up the revs and holding gears through corners too. Maybe the sudden jumps off the throttle didn’t help? I don’t know, I’ll talk to Tim and see what his opinion is.

Haha, yep, I might be able to get a cheap KB kit due to ‘special circumstances’ or something! :P

Pretty sure it’s only the belt again Kris, and to be perfectly honest, I would seriously consider selling you the fixed kit if you are that interested? Everything else is still fine on it.

So I just got off the phone with Tim from Raptor, and he was fantastic to talk to as usual. I told him exactly what I did, and wasn’t shy on saying I did give it a good old thrash. He was totally fine with it, and is happy to chuck in a new belt for me again! He also said that he offers a full water cooler kit for the supercharger itself, with a water jacket, pump and reservoir for another $850. To be honest, I recon that doesn’t sound too bad at all.
Anyway, I’ll be sending the unit back up to him at some point this week hopefully, and in the mean time have a good old think about where to go from here.

What BOV do you have on the thing? The supplied bosch plastic one or a decent aftermarket one? I've said it before and i'll say it again: You need to have a GOOD BOV, set to a very low spring pressure, with a large diameter/flow rate. You could even consider running two of the bosch ones as a cheap alternative.

Not having a good BOV and letting off the throttle at high RPM WILL eventually kill the belt as the high pressure in the intake will overload it.

As you have already said, the stock limiter is lower than 6250 (I can check an AU tune tonight if you like) but as your car has been flash tuned it could be set to anything. In my experience they are a lot more sensitive to back pressure than they are to high rpm. You are not cooking bearings, so a cooler kit is going to do sweet **** all.

Do you know if it was rebuilt with a stock belt last time or something higher spec?

Hey Jason, the kit Tim supplies actually includes a nice chunky metal BOV, I think it’s a Greddy one. Metal body with a purple top. Although I have no idea what the spring rate is set to. It’s plumbed back into the intake as standard, but I have unplumbed it a couple of times just for shits, and its massively loud!

Now, I can’t say exactly what the limiter is set to off the top of my head, but I do distinctly remember Dion saying it was not changed, so it should be whatever stock is. Though I didn’t hit on the track. So you think getting up it and sharply jumping off the throttle is what killed it? Even the water cooler kit wouldn’t help? Maybe it’s just not applicable for track work after all.

It was replaced with another standard belt. Tim only has two on offer, the standard made of Fiberglass, or a Kevlar item. I asked him about that, and his response was it is not worth it as it probably wouldn’t last any longer. Also, instead of shredding, when the Kevlar item lets go it actually catches fire! So yeah, another stock item will be going in!

I doubt it’s the product itself, I’m sure it’s just me. After speaking to Tim, he has had zero returns from at least any of the Windsor kits that he has sold. The only belts he recons he has had to replace are blokes with built motors running big boost. I seem to be the only one who manages to bust belts with a stock kit. They are a few grand cheaper than say a CAPA kit, but what attracted me was the ease of install. I cbf with oil lines and all that malarkey.

Postby ClassicAU » August 19th, 2012, 3:43 pm

Yeah, so this just drove out of my driveway today. :( Sold to a young bloke who came all the way down from Wodonga this morning! Then he did get a pretty good deal in my view, flogging it from me for $6500 as is. It wasn't with out its problems, but still a lot of car for the money. I also sold the blower kit last week to Paul from CVE who is fitting and tuning it on an EL I believe. So there goes another chapter in the book of cars for me!

Not sure what it will be replaced with, was thinking AU number 5, another auto 6 and actually leave it alone for once. Absolutely no one thinks that will happen, surprise surprise! I even had a mate suggest I go the hot hatch route, maybe something French. Whatever it is, I don't want it to cost me anymore than servicing. I need to save for my own place, before my best mate/house mate decides he's had enough of me and kicks me out! :P

Yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah, you’re all comedians! I’m just going to get the best kind of car I can for the $6k or $7k that I have and be done with it. Would like a BA, but will probably get another AU. All it has to have is an auto, cruise control and electric front windows and I’m happy. I know I sound like an old man, but I kinda have to. Serves me right for wasting my time and money on crap heaps all these years. I hope to get back into a cool car at some point, but for now it’s build up as much savings as I can and that’s my only focus. Oh and maybe lose some weight so I don’t die alone if I can as well! :P

I recon the kid got a pretty good deal as well. I mean, I didn’t give him a rwc, and it probably needs a couple of things but nothing major. Power steering was the only leak, new windscreen and I think a new rubber boot thing for the axle at the back. My old man drove it a few times and seems to think the motor is whipped, but I recon it still pulled fine. Anyway, whatever, it’s gone now. I will miss it, and did find myself reminiscing with a few skid videos I had! As I said though, time to move on.

Didnt it have a rebuilt box, kaaz and shit? I reckon he got a bargain aswell.

I think if you want something nice, cheap and subtle get an AU2-3 XR6, still go ok, look alright and are nice to drive and cheap to fix.

That it did Nut, almost 6 grand just in parts! Although there was some noise starting to develop from the gearbox area again, but I think it was just thrust bearing from all the 1-2 clutch dumps when I had the blower! Plus the paint was absolutely rat shit! Came up ok with a wash and wax, but it was completely sand blasted at the front, and faded at the back. Plus the kid launched into my driveway coming back from the test drive, bottomed out and caught the guard with the inside wheel! Took a hunk out of the tyre and bent the guard, lucky he still took it! :P

You know what, that is exactly one of the leading choices I am looking at. I actually had one, a black S3 XR6 HP auto with 108k’s on it, absolutely mint condition. Picked it up for $8k and fogged it for $10k to a P plater a few months later to by the red baron! Kicking myself now, but that’s just how I roll! :P Either that or BA XT/Futura seem to be going pretty cheap at the moment.

I will have to keep an eye out for it around then...shame you sold it, was a nice car. Kid definitely got an epic bargain with the bits and pieces in it.

Look forwards to seeing what you get to play with next. Should be able to pick up a nice AU S3 Fairmont I6 for that cash.

Buy a bicycle. Lose weight & save money!

I second NUT's thoughts on SII or III AU XR6. Some nice optioned ones out there for not much

I second a 2.7 hilux. Those things make epic power with a turbo strapped on the side of them 3rz's :good:
