Ford had major problems with Shockwave paint back in it's hey day. Large chunks of it would fly off in the wind or just with a car-wash hose. Spray painters made a fuck-tonne of cash out of Ford for fixing all the affected cars up. Hope yours was done properly.

You're very impulsive Ev. And a lost cause. The vicious cycle will never end. Buying from a Ford dealer means it was way over priced and you probably got shit-talked and conned in to buying it.

Postby ClassicAU » September 19th, 2012, 8:42 am

Haha, how is a stereo a mod? I’m not even buying one either, I already have it! Thanks for the info on the paint Sunny, sounds pretty bad! Mine was done about a year ago apparently, there is some paperwork for the job in the books somewhere. Looks pretty good to me. I only picked it up on Monday night, so I’ll get some photos of it in the weekend.
Yes, I am impulsive, and probably a lost cause! It wasn’t from a dealer, I bought it off the first owner who picked it up ex-demo. Like I said, he bought it at 1200kms, I bought it privately. I think I did ok for a V8 and ZF for under $10k.
No way I am up to Josh’s standards, that bloke has had a hand in almost every half decent car to be up for sale on the forums! :P

Thanks man, I think I did alright. I wouldn’t say low ks, 127 is about average I recon. Most of that is big trips though. It was actually surprised how much pickup it has, heaps for torque. Pretty sure specs say 230kw and 500nm at the fly. I think the ZF helps a lot though, so damn smooth. I recon I prefer to grandpa drive it and watch the revs drop without feeling a gear change! It’s pretty spritely off the line too, will light up the traction control and chirp in the dry if I tramp it. I haven’t tried without traction control yet cos, well, I kinda don’t want to kill this one, it’s too nice! I’ve never driven a Boss ZF though, so couldn’t compare. All I know is that it feels heaaaaps quicker than the old Baron AU XR8 when it was NA. Only complaint is that it's too quiet, but I can live with that after the AU anyway!

the 3V is an awesome daily motor (apart from fuel lol)
rips off the line with ease.

even with a BTR they have punch, ZF would be great.

as Tristan said, chop out the lower section of the airbox, and make up an intake pipe (can be done for about $80) and you'll start to hear it.

Oh yeah, I forgot about the airbox thing. I might pick up another lower airbox though, I don’t want to hack mine up only to find it sounds like turd. That’s all though, I don’t want to mess with this one.
I actually don’t think the fuel economy is all that bad on this thing. I went down to Geelong last night, and on the way back flicked through the trip computer. So far I have use just under three quarters of a tank, and my average is 14.3, with the instant on cruise at 100 showing 7.8! I think that’s pretty good for a V8! I don’t know how many kms to the tank so far, cos I only just figured out where the counter is.

Postby ClassicAU » September 23rd, 2012, 11:09 am

I'm actually not fussed with it being silent, I kinda like it being unassuming. My mate got into it the other night and swore it was a six! In fact I think I want to take off all the V8 badges too. I’m guessing greased up fishing line and a hair dryer would be the best way? I think it goes plenty well enough already.
No way I would ever change the front end at all! I love this look over the XR! I think it’s more unique, B-series XR’s are like arseholes these days! In fact, I even have the actual spot light assemblies that go in the fake chrome surrounds. The bloke I bought it off did that himself, it only had the plain black blanking plates. He had to take them out to pass road worthy because apparently it’s illegal to have non-functioning lights fitted? The switch it there in the dash, but no loom up front. I might put them back anyway just for looks. Ford want like $500 to make em work!

Sorry Danny, no Ghia conversions on this one! I completely regretted putting leather in the XR8 and won’t be making the same mistake!

LOL, I was waiting for that response from you Paul!! Would be a tough choice between that and a KB I recon!

I think it’s got a few more options than just the bodykit Bentley? The V8 and ZF for starters, plus the previous owner claims GT brakes, but they don’t look big enough to me? Also traction and cruise would be options right? No limo though, which is a bit of a shame.

Postby ClassicAU » September 24th, 2012, 7:47 am

That's cool Sunny, the more I look at it, the more I actually agree. They make it look like an XR, which is saying it looks common. I'll chuck the other ones back on and get new tyres for them. I thought I'd try these because they are a little wider and fit 235/45/17, but the other ones with 225/50/17 are more comfortable.

I was kinda thinking the same as Gill, this combo seems pretty rare to me? There was only two for sale in the entire country before I bought it, now there is none at all! From what I could tell, even just to get a ZF equipped BF it would have to be a Ghia or an optioned XR6 and that's it?

Re: Ev's AUII XR8 - now a BF XT 3V!

Postby nothin suss » September 24th, 2012, 8:15 am

You gotta love the 225/50 ride quality!!
I don't want to lower mine much at all, defiantly not going larger than the 17's for daily cruising.

Your XT should have got sport suspension (as well as the 17's) when the 3v got optioned.
A set of springs will match the std shocks okay.

Re: Ev's BF XT 3V ZF!

V8 / ZF combo in an XT is definitely rare. Rarity doesn't make it special though. Ford CRC can give you production stats. Normally they are pretty off though I reckon, because the people who look them up are fairly incompetent.

Looks good Ev, I think It would look better with my Xr19's on it though :D

The 3v's go well though and sound pretty tuff when allowed to breath. ZF and V8 is defiantly rare.
Strive for perfection in everything we do. Take the best that exists and make it better.
When it does not exist, design it. Accept nothing nearly right or good enough.

You’re absolutely right Danny, the 17’s it came with are a much nicer ride. I’m with you, definitely no lower or bigger wheels. This car was never designed to be a track weapon, so no point trying to make it one! I’m not too sure about the suspension though, it doesn’t feel very ‘sporty’ to me? I might have to try Sunny’s suggestion and ring Ford with the vin to see what they can tell me. Unless there is another way I can tell myself?

I don’t care if it’s not special, not like I bought it to stick in storage or something stupid like that! :P

Thanks heaps Tristan! Haha, as super awesome as I’m sure it would look with your 19’s, it ain’t gunna happen, sorry mate! Yep, as I’ve mentioned, it has a fair amount of pull from down low. Which is even more surprising given I found out yesterday that the single spinner diff is a 2.53:1 ratio!! Saw the sticker on it when changing wheels over. First gear must be really short in the ZF I’m guessing!

I have a 2.73:1 LSD sitting here that would be a perfect upgrade ;)
