Devo's el xr6 daily

Postby Devo » October 4th, 2012, 12:02 pm

a few months ago i decided i needed a new daily, because my xe was getting a bit old and wasnt really suitable for daily use anymore..

So i started lookin for an el xr6 that was manual, had a tickford kit and also a sunroof, but finding one that had all that and was in good condition wasnt very easy so i didnt have much luck... anyway i found a blue el xr6 on ebay that had the tickford kit, sunroof and was auto and it was also pretty cheap because it had suspended rego which probably scared a few people off (i just got him to cancel it and there was no hassles :D ).
so me and my dad made the 3 hour trip up to get the car, the whole way i was expecting it to be a little bit worse than in the pictures, but when i saw it for the first time i was all like :yahoo:
a couple of pics from the drive home

just realised I drove home with the wrong p plate up too lol...

anyway i dropped it off on the way home to see what it needed for a roady, its in pretty good shape though so it only needed some small things like globes, wipers, tyres and the battery clamp etc..
so a few days later i went and got it and took it home and got it all ready for the final roady
hardest thing it need done was the front upper control bushes replaced which is when i noticed it already had a camber kit
but I couldnt drop it off to get the final roadworthy myself because I couldnt get work off so I got my dad to drive it down which is when disaster struck, a fucking tree fell on it apparently, which snapped the spoiler clean in half  it passed the roady anyway but i was still anoyed about the spoiler because when i first got the car i wanted to despoiler it but then it started growing on me :glare:
Image
anyway it looks better without a spoiler i think now so i just have to find a bootlid in the same colour and switch it..
Image
so after about a month of having it i finnally got the el registered, then a couple of days later i got sick of one of the blown speakers so me and my mate put in a pretty decent sound system.. pictured is my mate doing all the hard work while i watch haha
Image
i also gave the interior a steam clean last week which brought it up mint

and gave it a wash and chucked some gtp's on the back to see what they would look like, just gotta find some hub adaptors for the front

anyway i have a heap more to update but ill leave that till later!

Temporary boot layout, not sure where or how i will mount the kicker amp yet

How i mounted the splits in the rear, as if they weren't made for this!

Yesterday I used one of those meguires paint restoration kits on the el, first there was a wash, then the clay bar, then a polish, then a wax. Im pretty happy with the results, wasnt expecting it to come up as well as it did, its no show car but definitely neat enough for a daily! Anyway pics because we all prefer them over reading...

And I also tried to figure out why it wouldnt run on pretol properly today, I rang my uncle and he said it could either be the injectors or the fuel pump and he recomended if its the injectors just to chuck some au ones in there. Id already bought a fuel pump so I tried that first but it still ran the same like shit (there goes 90 bucks :( ) so I 'borrowed' some injectors off dads au parts car and chucked them in and now it runs almost perfect on both petrol and gas :yahoo:
Now the only major problem with it is the doors dont lock. When I lock it they lock but unlock straight away? any ideas on how to fix this? ive heard its a pretty common problem on eseries

Bought some wheel spacers a couple of days ago so should hopefully have them early next week, so i can chuck on the gtp's for cruise for charity :)
also sprayed some stoneguard over where i repaired some rust on the inner sill, so now that looks a lot better
