Ok, so if I can't get away with a tune for less than a gorilla, then as you said, it's not worth the effort. I was under the impression that an SVI system was at least $4k? If I can get one for around $3k, then get a k back on rebate, then I will very seriously consider it. I do want to keep this car for at least enough time to be worth it. I don't know why, but I very much like the idea of SVI on this car, I think it would run quite well.

I am, but less so with the last couple of cars. I loved the red XR8 to bits, and still miss it. But I think it ended up being a good decision to get rid of it, especially now. Imagine if I had to drive that thing around the city daily!! I would end up hating it and selling it anyway. In no way am I dissapointed with this decision, I also love the BF, I think its the nicest and smoothest car I have ever owned! Yes, maybe I shouldn't have got the 3V really, but I'm not complaining. Just looking at improving it in any way as a daily, if not then so be it, I'm happy either way.

So it looks like SVI gas is winning so far. I spoke to Dion, and unfortunately he wont do a tune unless I buy a XCAL3 unit, so that's $1300 all up for something that, as Sunny and others very rightly said, will make jack shit of a difference. As for gas, I spoke to a very helpful bloke this morning who informed me an Impco BRC system is my best bet at $3950 fitted with a 3 year warranty, minus $1000 back from Jules.
I am waiting on a call back from another gas place, who my housemate used to get his BA Ghia I6 done to see what they say. But it looks like the next, and possibly only, major mod will be SVI dual fuel!

I know a bloke with an Impco injected system on a 4spd 3v BA Fairlong. Goes well and decent economy.
You should be happy. *edit. The next owner will be happy once you sell it :)

Haha, nice one Danny! I definitely want to keep this one for a while, its a great car! From the information I have been getting, it seems it should run very well on SVI!

I have narrowed it down to two types/brands of SVI at a couple of places. Impco BRC and Prins. I spoke John over at AG Autogas in Lilydale about the Impco, and he was a wealth of knowledge, and very great to talk to. He said that this motor (Triton from the states) is actually designed to run on gas with the Impco system. I also spoke to another bloke over my side who does Prins, but was warned it could be a copy and not genuine.
So it looks like I will most likely be going with the Impco, unless anyone else has any other suggestions? Hoping to get the in before the end of the year, but not sure if I can squeeze it. I'll see how I go.

There is a few brands where the Injector itself is super expensive and some are cheap, Both do the same job but for service/parts down the track it may be something to consider.
I installed a Prins system on a Terri Turbo to get my LPG ticket and it was a good looking system and easy to install. See if you can retain your engine cover as well, hides a lot of jumble.

Oh and it it's only $100-200 more for a donut tank it would be worthwhile, at least for resale.
There's solid donuts that have good capacity nowadays.

Thanks man, I think the Impco one sounds the tits really. It comes with a 3 year parts warranty, which includes injectors so should be sweet. I didn't realise they are the type that automatically change back to petrol at like 4500rpm as well, which is sweet. Lay the bloke said they custom tune the system to suit my car, rather than leaving the stock generic tune on the gas computer.
Not sure about a doughnut tank though, as it might be a little too small for me and kinda defeat the purpose a bit. A mate has one in his VX wagon, and reckons he fills it every four days. I think they only hold like 35L as apposed to the bigger 53L tanks behind the seat. I don't care about resale, the car isn't worth jack as it is anyway!

It's 2012. Donut tanks are bigger than 30 litres!
Either way your litres per 100 economy won't improve so if you used a tank a week previously you'll be heading to the bowser twice regardless per week.

Well, the way I see it is this. It costs $100 a week to run as it is on petrol, so that's $5200 a year. It should only cost me $70 a week on gas at the most, which is $3650 a year. So the difference is like $1500 a year in savings on gas. So it should take me no longer than 2 years to make the money for the system back. I hope to keep the car for at least that long, so to me it seems worth it!

Except you'll only be making your money back after 2 years, not actually saving money until then. So you'd have to keep it for at least 3 years to save $1,500.

He said that this motor (Triton from the states) is actually designed to run on gas with the Impco system.

Erm.. The 'Triton' is what the 5.4L 2V is called when it's fitted to an F-Truck. He must have got E85 and LPG confused, the USA hasn't embraced LPG like we have.

But hey, he convinced you, so he's doing his job :P

(Ninja'd thanks to iphone post)

What if your work/personal situation changes within those 2 years, or you stack it? Also you're behind the 8-ball for two years.

Also are there gas services to consider?

Gas is only good if you buy a car already on it, or you do a shit-ton of kms.

Don't bother with a tune OR gas. PT + biking it ftw

Hmmm, all valid points. I haven't exactly committed to anything yet anyway, just getting info/quotes. I have no problem waiting to see how it goes for a while I guess. See how much my boss reimburses me for travel. I figured that would have helped go towards recouping the money for the conversion. Or I could just not bother, keep my money, and have work pay for petrol.
As I said, PT is only an option for now. Eventually I will be forced to drive to work as I will have to drive out to client sites for work. I would bike but, well, I'd probably have a heart attack and die. Plus no one wants support from a dude who stinks and is dripping with sweat!

Thanks for the advice blokes! :drinks2:

My old Boss paid to have a Prins System installed in one of my old car's a few years ago by John @ AG Autogas, I had a lot of problems with it & had to take it back to him to fix constantly.

He does a lot of work for the dealers @ Car City so that says it all!

ROFL!! You blokes never fail to deliver, this is why I keep coming back!! Love it!

John did warn me about the Prins systems, apparently there are a lot of cheap copies going round. I confirmed this on the Prins website, its actually listed. Which is why I would go for the Impco instead. Of all the people I spoke to, he seemed the most knowledgeable, and had an answer to every question I threw at him. Anyway, I'm probably best to just cool off till next year, see how it all goes. Could end up not even needing gas at all!

Sunny, do you actually have all that shize? Cos if so, I would actually consider grabbing some of it! I went to buy a set of cloth GT seats off AFF the other week, but missed out by a day! Only cloth though, not making the leather mistake again.
If I could afford an FG F6 I would have one already, but no way I am anywhere near that!

You know how much I love that EA Tristan, I just have no where to keep two cars! Technically I have nowhere to keep one car really.

Thanks heaps boys. Yep, John is exactly on the money (literally! haha!) the price difference was just too much for me. I payed $10,500 on the road for this bad boy, no way I was getting a ZF equipped XR8 for that much! Plus, pretty sure this thing would at least keep up with an XR8 anyway, plus I very much like the sleeper spec of this thing. To be honest, I recon I might even like the look of this over an XR, especially in this colour. Seen a few Shockwave XR's and I don't think it suits. As Tristan said, no one suspects this. I really need to get around to taking off the V8 badges too. Imagine how much better it would be with LPG stickers on the plates too!

This is why I did the BA Ghia v8 and not an XR8.
Plus insurance is a major factor. the XT or Ghia are classed as boring by the insurance companies, while the XR8 is a big bad sports car ! :drinks2:
and boy did it upset them when it blew the xr8's away ! :epicfight:

Strive for perfection in everything we do. Take the best that exists and make it better.
When it does not exist, design it. Accept nothing nearly right or good enough.

Personalised plates are extremely wankish, especially on a stock 3V. Make it go fast, and leave it on standard plates.
