turbo boys: figures wanted

Postby halo » February 18th, 2008, 4:55 pm

i haven't driven a turbo e series before but am considering going down the route, so I was just wondering, what figures are you guys getting?

could you let us know what kit you've got, what motor, and anything else worthwhile, and let us know what 1/4 mile/o-100/kw figure you're getting from it?

would be much appreciated..

aha i knew i saw that thread somewhere, i just couldn't find it when i needed it!

if I may ask some more questions..

i see lots of ads for falcon mods claiming "eb-au".. would such items fit an ea engine? i know the main differences between ef onward engines and my ea, but what is different from and ea and eb?

anyway, the point of asking about the differences is that I would like to modify the cheaper aspects of the car before spending that great wad of cash on turbo. Namely, I want to replace the EA engine with an AU motor that has been rebuilt for lower compression for a turbo. So what mods can I do on the EA with the EA engine which can transfer to the AU engine? I was thinking extractors, 3" exhaust, suspension, brakes, clutch/box/diff.

Out of these I won't upgrade the clutch/box/diff until I brake it, brakes probably only if I can find good ones cheap.

which leaves me with extractors, exhaust, and suspension..

Can someone advise me which product to go with? I was thinking pacemakers (which one though - one is better for high revs the other for lower - high would suit turbo but car is a streeter so I thought maybe the lower revs one), exhaust i don't know, suspension would be from most of the white line catalogue..

last of all i'm just interested to know what revs until boost kicks in on your turbo e series's..

thanks in advance

ummm extractors are useless for a turbo motor, where are ya gunna put the turbo??? you're going to need something like a snort manifold, for the clutch, upgrade to the 6bolt flywheel, or the BA Mk1 XR6T Flywheel (NPC make one to suit E-Series) and the 10.5" XR6T Clutch

Look at your car. Now back to mine. Now back to yours. Now back to mine. Sadly, yours isn't mine. But if you stopped buying dodgy cars and bought an ED, yours could be like mine. Look down. Back up. lol sorry, as you can tell i am way out of my depth when it comes to going turbo. So pretty much a snort kit would start me off nicely, then when i have the money go the aftermarket ecu, injectors etc.. as well as the brakes, box, clutch etc etc..

with low boost could the box and clutch and diff handle it? or will it just brake asap so I might as well upgrade the clutch and box before hand?

can i also ask, installing an AU engine... I've read that the sump differs from the ea one, as well as the mounts.. how difficult is the AU drop in?

Thanks, just want to develop a well rounded view before I commit to anything..

Am I on the right track though by buying an AU motor, rebulding in with stronger rods/pistons while its out, then installing the turbo kit.. possibly also upgrading the clutch/flywheel while its all out? And also, which AU motor to go for? I was thinking a good condition one out of just a forte or something since there's no need for an xr6 one since its getting rebuilt with lower comp anyway..

Thanks guys.
