Sadly not, this is actually what I have been reduced to now. Check the location of the photos, it's the same spot I have taken photos of my last couple of cars. The BF was going to end up too expensiveto repair, so I literally swapped it for that which has been dubbed 'The Tampon'. Oh, and the reason I haven't been around is not because I have a girlfriend, because lets face it, that'll never happen again. I have, for once, genuinely been busy at work. I am flying between Sydney and Brisbane twice a week. Plus, on top of all that, my housemate had enough of me and gave me my marching orders, so I'm moving house this weekend too!

So, as usual, fail all round!

Yep, the ZF mainly. It was going to cost more just to fix the trans properly than the asking price for Renault! Plus seeing as it would limo off the line when I tramped it with the tc off, I'm pretty sure the diff was shagged too. Did mad circle work in second gear though! So the motor was still good. Anyway, I'd had enough of it, so just up and swapped for the Clio. Plus I am still driving to work, and this thing is getting over 550kms to a 42L tank! And I chopped a VS Statesman 5L to about 80 in it too, so it does alright! Helps that it weighs less than my left arse cheek!

So how much was it actually going to cost to fix the trans? I've sold 2 ZF Turbo boxes for $1800ea. but have seen some as low as $800 on eBay. Haven't seen a V8 one go though, but finding one for a XT would be a hard task. Word on the street is if it's an F6, it needs an F6 box from same year, if it's an XR6T it needs an XR6T from same year and so on and so forth. I don't know if that's true though.

that sucks, but I suppose cost of repairs v cost of other car makes a difference too. The BF looked like a pretty nice car too. Gotta make the hard decisions sometimes though

You can swap a part (valve body or something?) in the trans with your original so that it will work in a different car.

Lol @ going from a V8 BF to that thing! I wouldn't drive it if it got 1L/100k :P

Suppose it won't be long until your in something different anyway?

Ah ok. I might have to look in to it. It makes it so hard to sell these boxes or buy a car with a broken box when you don't know what the GO is with whether it's compatible or not.

Aaaw, thanks for bumping those pics and making me sad! **** I miss that car somthing feirce! Easily the best car I have owned yet, and took the most punishment! The BF was either half stuffed when I bought it, or just weak as piss.

Sunny is exactly right, because of ZF computer its only possible to replace like for like, same year and type. So I was fucked from the start by buying the rarest combo ever made! From what I could tell, even an XR8 box wouldn't have worked, it had to be from another 3V, which is rare as rocking horse shit! Yes, as mentioned, it is possible to swap the mechatronics unit, but if that had water in it as the rest of the trans did, it required replacement. Which meant even if I rebuilt the box and replaced the unit, it would need to be reprogrammed, and the only place who has the factory programming for ZF's is Ford in Sydney. That's $700 just for a factory re-flash. Yes, there are ZF's available, but they are mostly XR6T boxes which was completely useless to me. Prices I was quoted was anywhere from $4k IF my vavle body unit was ok, to $11k for a complete assembly new from Ford! So, this is why I now have a shopping trolley.
