my 3.9L MPI??

Postby Bazza J » February 13th, 2008, 6:00 pm

i recently booked my car in for a lpg conversion and a new distributor, they told me that it would take a couple of days and to drop it in after the parts had came in yesterday night the guy rang me and told me drop it in and he'll start it in the morning, today he called and said that it wasn't a multipoint but a centrepoint (i have done a bit of looking on the net at pics of the motor and found that he is right) and he would hav 2 change the parts(no cost to me), but i relised after talking to him that the papers that i got off the car yard said it was a MPI as well as the guards and the boot
they are all the origonal pannels and i am now wondering how it could be a CPI and the pannels and the papers say it is a MPI???

Someone's just slapped the badges on.

What model is it? Only Fairmonts and S Pack's came with MPI factory i think?

you got stooged in the sense that the body and everything is original but it is quite possible that the original engine could have shit itself and the caryard you bought it from have popped in another EA engine (CFI) and told you it was original..

it is a s pack and it is the original motor because the engine number is the same as the chasis number, i dont really mind that is is centrepoint rather than multipoint, it is all the same 2 me, it still goes and it'll do till im off my p's and can drop a v8 in it

i got it back from the machanic 2day and he said that most likley the previous owner cracked the head and just replaced it with a CPI because it was cheaper than the MPI (explainging the engine number matching) and didn't bother remvoing the badges

Wow that sucks, go back to the car yard and tell them you want them to make it MPI because that's what you thought you were getting.

the owner of the car yard is 1 of my fathers good freinds so we got the car for trade in value, and i just spent $2800 geting gas on it and if i got it changed back to MPI it would cost me extra for the gas to fit.
i dont really mind it as a CPI, it has good power for a 20 yr old car anyway, it will do until i get off my ps then i will drop in a worked over 351 into it

i would suggest removing that 3.9 badge from the boot garnish...
it's not meant to be there, i'm guessing it was when you bought the thing.

leave it yellow dude just polish it up and build a sleeper

i'd keep it that dirrty yellow, surprise everyone when you put in the new engine. go paint it and it'll be a hassle cos u'll be so meticulous about it in a carpark, street etc. having said that, if you paint it don't go the silver its too common, i'd like my EA done in the darkest shiniest black there is possble.
you know your obsessed when you talk to your car.. EA S MPI 5 Spd. Lowered, FTRs, Stereo, Tint, Cat back, more coming..

i was looking at a jet black on ebay
http://cgi.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayISAPI.dll ... :IT&ih=008
but then i though of how hot black cars get in the sun,
i am only getting prices for the paint ATM, if i do deside to paint it i won't care if it gets scratched because i know my father could always paint it again

but on the otherhand if i do leave it yellow it would suprise all the p platers driving those v6 bomerdores

eather way i would hav 2 replace the plastic interior cause the previous owners didn't take good care of it.
Would an EL or EF trim set fit it?? (everything exept the door drims ATM, as i have no electric mirrors or windows, may get them when i hav more cash)

its only a 1st car ATM, and if i sell it i wont b able to get another converted to gas and get the $2000 rebate, and i need the gas, i travel over 100km every day, when i get off my ps or if i can get an exemption i will drop a v8 in it and surprise them then, it still has enough power for me til then, it still beats my mates vs v6 and also my big bros 1,anyway it only cost me $1500 for the car, and it is all in good condition exept for the trims so i will keep it til i can get my BMW restored and then mod this falcon like crazy

lol, what is the most i could mod the engine to get performance without making it undrivable to p platers (with those no high performance vechiles) and without changing the motor
and also will this give me more power or is it just a load of BS??
http://cgi.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayISAPI.dll ... :IT&ih=020
and will it still be legal for me to drive the car (regarding the turbo and high performance law)
