IT has been one of the best-kept secrets in Australian automotive history.

But today News Limited can exclusively lay bare classified information on what will be the fastest and most powerful car Australia has ever produced, and likely ever will produce, the new Holden Special Vehicles GTS.

Its supercharged V8 also has more power than the fastest European sedans on sale in Australia today. Only the next Mercedes E63, which goes on sale locally later this year, will match it.

Priced close to $100,000, the new HSV GTS will cost almost three times as much as a regular Holden Commodore, but less than half the price of its European rivals. It is due on sale in August.

The new HSV GTS has 575 horsepower, only 25hp less than a V8 Supercar racing machine.

Performance times are yet to be announced, but the new HSV GTS is said to accelerate quicker than most Porsches, reaching 0 to 100km/h in "comfortably less" than 4.5 seconds, which also happens to be the unofficial time for the latest supercharged Ford Falcon GT.
Holden HSV

Its top speed would in theory eclipse 300km/h (matching its European rivals) except it has been capped at 250km/h to comply with General Motors' global policy. However, the limit will still allow enthusiast drivers to explore its potential on a race track, where many of these new HSVs are expected to spend their weekends.

Given the likely switch to locally-made four-cylinder economy cars in the future, the new HSV GTS is poised to become a collector's item; a fitting exclamation point for a manufacturing industry on the brink.

As with most HSVs built over the past 25 years, the new GTS is built to a partially-complete form alongside regular Commodore models on the Holden production line at Elizabeth, north of Adelaide. It is then transported to HSV's final assembly area in Clayton, near Melbourne, where the performance brakes, tyres, suspension and unique bodywork is fitted.

The 6.2-litre supercharged V8, borrowed from a race-bred Chevrolet Camaro, is fitted on the production line in Adelaide. HSV's previous horsepower hero, the W427 built in 2008 and 2009, had its engine fitted at its Clayton facility. This makes it the most powerful engine to ever go down a Holden production line.

The new HSV GTS has Porsche-inspired "torque vectoring" technology to help it stay glued to the road. The suspension is the same type used by Ferrari, responding to changes in road conditions in milliseconds. It also has the biggest brakes ever fitted to an Australian-made car, and tyres initially developed for Mercedes-Benz.

The new HSV GTS was so secret that only an inner-circle of senior Holden executives were allowed in the planning meetings over the past four years. Early HSV prototypes were assembled by hand so they didn't go along the regular Holden production line, to ensure the secret would not get out.

Sounds like a beast, how much hp do you reckon the charged 5L GT has at the engine though? I reckon it would be pretty close, going by estimates.

How much driveline power loss would there be?

Apparently it has same acceleration as the GT which makes me thinks that it may be bit of exaggeration on its power .

Was watching the TODAY show on Channel 9 over breakfast this morning - segment with Neil Mitchell commentary.
Interesting to see this make the morning show agenda.....albeit in a negative way.

New Supercharged HSV GTS

Basically - backlash against the new performance HSV

Waaaaay Too fast
Pointless car for today's day and age
3-4 years down the track - will be priced squarely at young bogan Hoon affordability
Do we really need / want these types of cars roaming our roads.
Sound familiar...echoes of the 70's super car scare campaign

I love the way the articles are written to make out HSVs are so much more sophisticated than they really are, ie:

As with most HSVs built over the past 25 years, the new GTS is built to a partially-complete form alongside regular Commodore models on the Holden production line at Elizabeth,(they're actually built as half ass 6 cylinder omegas with temporary use panels and wheels) north of Adelaide. It is then transported to HSV's final assembly area in Clayton, near Melbourne, where the performance brakes, tyres, suspension and unique bodywork is fitted.

The 6.2-litre supercharged V8, borrowed from a race-bred Chevrolet Camaro (Race-bred? Which type of racing is that, exactly?), is fitted on the production line in Adelaide. HSV's previous horsepower hero, the W427 built in 2008 and 2009, had its engine fitted at its Clayton facility. This makes it the most powerful engine to ever go down a Holden production line.

The new HSV GTS has Porsche-inspired "torque vectoring" technology to help it stay glued to the road.(Is this just a fancy name for traction control or are we talking an active diff, which 4wds and the Mitsu EVOs have had for ages?) The suspension is the same type used by Ferrari, responding to changes in road conditions in milliseconds.(Suspension is the same type? You mean the shocks have adjustable damping like HSV have had for years, and the rest of the actual 'suspension' is identical to omega...) It also has the biggest brakes ever fitted to an Australian-made car, and tyres initially developed for Mercedes-Benz. (throw a few more upper class car manufacturer brand names in there to impress people eh?)

I'm the first to admit I'm a cynical old bastard, but marketing spin pisses me off. Should be a pretty fast bit of gear. I can't wait to pull up beside one at a set of lights :)

Ford just needs a tune on the Miami and it will be right up there as well.

With gt's dynoing at 320 ish at the wheels that means its true motor figure is somewhere round 370kw. And the Miami tune is so tame there's heaps of head room.

But I'm picking no real fight back from ford until next year, the fu/fh gt might finally get that much needed intercooler to make more power more consistently.

Both ford and holden need to be careful that they don't spur a current affair and similar syphilis infected shows into round two of "The Supercar Menace - and how to protect your family".

Holden has always been the first out with big power though, so I think maybe Ford waits a while to see what public reaction is before bringing out a vehicle with similar power. Maybe it's a strategy to ensure that they don't spend shitloads of money engineering a huge hp car and then having the govt/media stomp it out of existence (which I think happened to Phase IV?).

Govt won't care. They can't ban the locals without banning all their mates euro Supercars.

Its not 1972 anymore. Back then the p4 was going to be a monster in every sense of the word, not a lot worldwide was comparable. These days it seems every hipo manufacturer has something just as fast, if not faster.

I doubt it would have the full 430kw that Darling is on about...

Only 4.5 seconds suggests that it has no more then the GT R-spec... (about 375kw)

Pretty sure the rspec that did a 4.5 was a manual, and strangely enough I haven't seen any tests since for the auto...

I'm picking the auto would knock a tenth or three of that.

As far as I know the chassis of the FG is the limitation. The engine has heaps of potential but probably won't be tapped from the factory.

In any case, the latest AMG E Class in AWD form will do 0-60 mph in 3.6 seconds so I wouldn't say the title of quickest sedan is up for grabs.

Looks a bit strange? Not as tuff as the current model IMO.

The drive line seems sick but I don't think the 335 will be far off it... stock or modified, even with a 1.2L disadvantage.

Would be an awesome time for Ford to release a 351kw badged GT (with 350-360rwkw) that would hose the new GTS... so we could lol more at the '430kw'.

Front looks good, Similar to BMW much?
Rear looks like arse.

Should be fun to drive, I wish Ford AUS had as many performance enthusiasts working for it as Holden.

I have met a few of the HSV design team and engineers, been for a personal tour through the plant and I can say that I would own one. If HSV didnt have to comply with GM's engineering standards then we would see very different cars.

They do a very good job turning a turd into a precious metal.

How funny would it be if Ford produced the next F6 with 400fwkw and just pissed the blown-6.2 litre v8 up the wall.....again. wouldn't take 4 years of development is for sure. Probly lighter and half the fuel consumtion as well.
Ford 6 turbo...skys the limit.

To be fair though the Ford gt has so much potential. Just look at the ridiculous amounts of power gains REAL DYNO are producing with a free flow cat and back and a kandn filter with a tune. 1 day and 200 extra rwhp is insane
Xh falcon turbo. 420rwhp 16 psi.

Senator looks alot like an older M5 I reckon, even down to the wheels (without the concave)

Senator grill looks heaps better than GTS though.

Let the power war begin..

I look at the Shelby Mustang for GT's new driveline.. 5.8L with 600HP

Look at your car. Now back to mine. Now back to yours. Now back to mine. Sadly, yours isn't mine. But if you stopped buying dodgy cars and bought an ED, yours could be like mine. Look down. Back up. Where are you? ...You're on BoostedFalcon, reading the signature your signature could be like! Anything is possible when your car looks like my car... I'm on a computer.

Big clumsy looking turd pride driven over cubed oil issued piece of shit! holden owners need to take the "blindfold" off.

KPM have a 500 kw falcon street fighter out on the showroom floor with warranty hsv ain't going to win!

my mates fpv gs ute was tuned at REAL dyno and pumped out 400 rwkw awesome!!
all hsvs figures are over rated fpv smashes them in every way as seen in a few videos of a turbo territory smashing
there clumsy looking w427 id take the kpm streetfighter over any pride driven hsv anyday!
