SUNDAY RE-CAP

First up today was Qualifying for the 2nd V8 Supercars Race, It was a repeat of yesterday as Shane Van Gisbergen and Mark Winterbottom locked out the front row. Fabian Coulthard was furious after Garth Tander may have possibly caused him to lose a pole posistion as Garth didn't move out of his way on the last turn. Garth was also furious as Fabian turned him around. Garth then told Fabian that he wouldn't move out of his way because he didn't have his headlights on. Typical Tander..... It was another good session for GRM with Premat and McLaughlin taking 6th & 7th in the session.

Nathan Pretty managed to beat Ryal Harris to the win in the V8 Utes race. Andrew Fisher rounded out the podium in 3rd. Former Champion of the BF days, Jack Elsegood finished down in 10th.

Craig Baird once again had a ripper day in the Australian GT Championship taking out another win for Erebus Motorsport in the SLS AMG. He cruised around to take the win ahead of Roger Lago's Lamborghini and took a Clean Sweep in Adelaide.

It was a different story for him in the Carrera Cup though, Baird led the whole race but was awarded a post race penalty for a Jump start handing the win to Steven Richards. After his 5 second penalty was awarded, he ended up in 3rd behind Nick Percat.

In The V8's Shane Van Gisbergen was a Race Car Driver turned into a Drifter after the race finished taking his 3rd ever Race Win and first in a Holden. The weekend hadn't had any safety cars until late in the race when Alex Davison hit the wall at Turn out which brought out a safety car. Whincup finished Second and Craig Lowndes in 3rd. But the drive of the Day - It had to go to Russell Ingall, the 49 Year Old may be sticking around a bit longer after finishing in 4th and challenging Craig Lowndes for 3rd. Ingall seems to like the new car and is confident ahead of Albert Park. The two FPR Fords finished 5th and 6th. There were 11 Retirements in this race, Only one of the Mercs made it to the finish thanks to mechanical dramas.

That's right, I hope it's not messing up the forums, let me know if its too much and I'll cut it down ;-)

After 4 Months on the job CEO of V8 Supercars, James Strong has passed away in Hospital aged 68. He had a strong eye for the Australian Business scene and was Woolworths CEO for 11 years, He was also the Board Director for the Australian Grand Prix, Chairman for Kathmandu and a Director at Qantas, and previous CEO there.

He will be missed.

Cancer.

DJR have secured Sponsership from Wilson Security who will now back both their cars, Well for this Non-Championship round anyway. The cars will hit the track for the first time at Albert Park tomorrow and it'll be interesting to see if Shane Van Gisbergen is still on the pace.

FRIDAY RE-CAP

Three Practice sessions happened Today. Only 16 of the 28 Cars fielded in the First session, of which Mark Winterbottom was the fastest. The 2nd session was dominated by Red Bull Racing and BJR with Fabian Coulthard once more showing their pace this season, Could they be title contenders? The Third Practice Session of the Day resulted in both Red Bull Racing cars on the top of the charts and Mark Winterbottom down the order, 4 tenths off the pace. Only 1 more Practice session tomorrow morning and a qualifying session before we get to experience the new "Sprint" race format. :)

SATURDAY RE-CAP
Tander seemed quick in early morning practice and that was to be the case. He grabbed 4th in qualifying for the 50/50 Sprint just behind Mark Winterbottom. Whincup was on Pole and Coulthard in 2nd. The race started off well, with Whincup leading the entire first leg. Whincup led on the restart for the 2nd leg but was quickly overtaken by Coulthard who went on to snatch victory from Whincup. Mark Winterbottom rounded out the podium in third.

SUNDAY RE-CAP
Sunday was a much longer Day, Two races today which would happen to be a test for Nissan as they made two engine changes over night to Todd and James' Altimas. Qualifying was straight up in the morning and it was BJR topping the times, Bright Leading and Coulthard following for Race 2 qualifying. Then, next up was qualifying for Race 5. Ford strike back! With Mark Winterbottom taking the Pole in what he described as an "Underpowered" car. Fabian Coulthard put in another solid effort for BJR to grab 2nd on the grid. Could he be the driver to beat this year?

Next up were the races, Race 2 resulted in Bright winning and David Reynolds was pushed into the wall on the exit of the Hairpin by David Wall which resulted in him sustaining some damage. This race was a straight up, 42 Laps. Tander took out 2nd place and Coulthard grabbed 3rd place, another solid drive by himself. The two Pepsi Max Falcons finished in 5th and 6th. Race 3 was a close one with Fabian Coulthard just denying Winterbottom victory nudging past with 3 Laps to go. Todd Kelly suffered another Engine Problem and did not finish the race, Not good signs for Nissan and Scott Pye was involved in a massive single car accident where his brakes failed and saw him fly straight into a wall at Max speed. He recieved a Sprained wrist in the incident and will not take part in Pukekohe next weekend. It's a short turn around, So hopefully all the cars make it there intact!

And here are the current championship standings after Round 2.

Pukekohe's on this weekend so we will get the results post up later today and put in the results of the Practice sessions. I did previously think of Garth Tander as a bit of a dog, But all that has gone away now thanks to this. An absolute legendary livery.

SATURDAY RE-CAP

An early morning and it started with the Race 1 qualifying session, The Session took place with Whincup sitting on provisional pole with the Top Ten shoot out still to go. Fabian Coulthard was once more quick, And the suprise of the session had to be Frenchman Alex Premat rounding it out in 4th spot! Frosty and Reynolds put in a solid performance to continue through to the shootout as well as young Scotty McLaughlin.

Before the shootout however, We had another qualifying session. The session for Race 2. This one, didn't have a shootout and it was Fabian Coulthard who took the Pole in his Lockwood Racing Commodore. Craig Lowndes also scored a front row start with Whincup on the row behind. The two Pepsi Max Fords started from 4th and 5th. Also should be noted a solid effort by Rick Kelly to push his Altima up the order for a 12th place start and Lee Holdsworth grabbing a 13th place start in his E63.

Then next up, The Shootout. It resulted in Whincup holding onto Pole as well as Coulthard securing a 1st row start. WInterbottom would start from the 2nd row as well as Jason Bright. Alex Premat plumeted down the order to 7th and Scott McLaughlin gained another 5 spots starting from the 3rd row of the grid. Lowndes would start from 10th after he outbraked himself.

Race 1 came up, And it was an interesting one. Frosty & Whincup both had tyre Dramas, Their excessive use of the Kerbing resulted in their tyres popping off the bead. Scott McLaughlin quickly found himself in the lead of the short 35 lap race. He put in a flawless performance to claim his first ever V8 Supercar race win at the age of 19, It was made a little bit sweeter being his home race. Garry Rogers was stoked, as well as Scott! He is definately going to be a star in years to come. Jason Bright put in a good effort to take 2nd, Lowndes taking 3rd. Coulthard lost a few spots and finished in 5th. Whincup was 26th and Frosty finished in 18th with a slight recovery from his tyre issues, An unfortnate mechanical failure resulted in Alex Premat, who was pumped after scoring 7th in the Shootout not finishing the race, He managed to help Scott McLaughlin to victory however by holding 2nd place at bay for a portion of the race. Will Davison was the highest placed Ford in 7th.

Now it was time for Race 2, A real shocker for Frosty - But it must be said, I am a happy Ford supporter, You have to take a chance every now and again to win races, and unfortunately today, it didn't pay off. Coulthard started from pole BUT, He blew it. A false start resulted in a 10 second penalty at the end of the race which saw him finish in 10th. Jamie Whincup won his first race of the season when Frosty locked up when trying to make a passing move on the final lap, It saw Frosty finish in 13th. WIll Davison put in a solid effort to grab 3rd ahead of Garth Tander. Scott McLaughlin had a shocker of a race after he was involved in an incident between Jason Bright & James Courtney, Courtney tagged the rear quater of Bright and spun himself into McLaughlin who was just trying to avoid the whole incident. Van Gisbergen and Bright did a good job to recover their cars and continue on in the race. Rick kelly put in a good effort to get his ALtima upto 7th, and James Moffat finished with his Altima in 9th. The best showing for the Nissans yet. Allthough it was a Shocker for our man Frosty - One thing we can look forward to is tomorrow, a further two races. And Frosty has Pace, and tyre life.

GO FORD! :yahoo:

I much prefer the new FPR liveries. Simple but effective, I reckon they look great! On the old design, I liked the blue side but I could never warm to the orange side of it.

The DJR car looks great too. Nice seeing the big Shell logos on there.
