I never said JMM are a workshop dedicated to I6's, I know they do other stuff too. Give me 20 grand and I'll install a motec into anything you want too. I said they have built a niche in the market with a drive in/drive out workshop for Falcon I6's, something that no-one has done. I should have added, no-one else has advertised this either. When you have a monopoly on a part of the market, you can charge whatever you want.
I know that they aren't the be all and end all of Falcon I6's, but there are a LOT of people that simply want to give someone a heap of cash and their car, and pick it up later with more power, because choosing parts from different companies is way too much work. I'd like to think everyone on here knows that you can make more power, -and more importantly better times- with other parts, but not everyone with an I6 is on this forum (thank christ).
Don't get me wrong, I think JMM are the most arrogant, overpriced, over-rated (and in the case of Brendan at least, redneck) people I have ever spoken to, I just admire the fact they make money from modifying one of the most basic, and biggest selling motors built in the last 20 years.
As for the original question, I trust about 3 places with parts of my car, becaue I have spoken to them personally and they know what they are talking about with my particular car at the time. Just drop a couple of technical questions about your car that you know the answer to, and the answers you get will pretty much sum up whether or not you should give them money to work on your car. I'd rather do the work to my car myself, but I know not everyone can.
Mechanics deal with every type of car on the road, they all hate certain cars, and love others. Finding a place that specialises in E-Series is hard, because most mechanics know that 99% of E-Series owners are tight (otherwise they'd have a BA) so they don't see many, apart from head gaskets and BTR's.
