To sell, or to keep working on it.

Postby Kayden » June 5th, 2013, 2:24 pm

Thought I'd see what peoples advice is regarding my ongoing project.

This is her:
Snort stage 3 kit, with upgraded turbo (t04z roller)
ACL race series pistons/bearings/gaskets
Machined crank
Moderate head work
All the standard machining & balancing.
17" rims.
Decent audio.

Now, for the issues.
Auto seems to be screwed, hesitation before shifting, or failure to shift altogether. Issue with engine, lots of smoke & oil blow by. Possible busted ring land.

Options -
Sell car (I have no idea what I'd get for her).
Replace engine & auto (probably from wreckers), bolt all the goodies back on, see how it goes. Any ideas on costs involved?
Rebuild engine, upgrade auto etc (can't afford this one, but couldn't make myself leave it off the list.

So, basically, I'm left with either trying to fix her (any clue on cost estimate much appreciated) or trying to sell (any estimate on price much appreciated).

Advice? Please??

*if* you sell it, are you just going to go full circle and build something else thats going to have issues and cost you money?

can you change the engine/auto yourself?

engines/auto's are cheap

*If* I sell, odds are I'll try and pick up something reasonably quick, but unmodified, and at least *try* to leave it that way.

I lack the skills/tools to handle an engine/auto swap myself. Which truly sucks.

Cheap is good. If I can get her running properly again, I'll be a happy man. Really just depends on the *if*.

Where are you located? Personally I'd put another auto and engine in. Least you already know your car and there are some nice members on here that are always willing to help out

Western Suburbs - Melton.

It really depends on what the costs are likely to be. I love the car. Love it. But can't justify throwing much more money at it.

Fix it then sell the turbo shit separate to the car and buy something better.

Buy Ef/l wrecker motor and trans or gumtree.
Then Buy beer and start a thread on here for some semi skilled labour.
Then Feed beer to said semi skilled labour whilst fitting engine and box.
And then go find a good tuner for a decent tune.
Then skids skids and more skids.

People still having issues getting Scorcher bars? I'd have thought someone would have had it figured by now.
