No rego label for light vehicles

Postby OMY-747 » January 12th, 2013, 7:01 am

Has anyone seen this page yet?

http://www.gopetition.com/petitions/abo ... toria.html

It's a petetion to have no rego labels for light vehicles in vic anymore, it's running in other states already. I'm keen to rip the rego labels off my windscreen's :) should all jump on there and sign the petetion.

yeahah im sure uld get away with it, they dont need the sticker anymore anyway now that they have all the numberplate recognition (spelling? lol) shit, or they'd just check on the computer.
on most of my dailies i've never put a new sticker on, so drove around with a 3 year old sticker haha

they have just done this in nsw as from jan 1st, no more rego lables, due to police numberplate recognition there is no need for them, not to mention the rta saves money by not printing the lables..
you would think they would pass the saving onto the consumer.... yea right! lol

I didn't start the petetion, but I'm keen to have no label. I hate having them on lol, but not risking the fine of not running one.

Being a mechanic it makes my job easier to know the engine number and vin.
Call me lazy but its just a sticker.

So people can forget to pay their rego more often?

I'm not a particular fan of having them, but at least it's easy to figure out when you need to start thinking about paying rego - you can't rely on getting a letter from the government.

Some of the other states you get txt alerts as well, or you can get apps that automatically remind you when it's due.

I'm all for getting rid of them, colours always suck.

It'll save the government money by not having to print them plus income from people forgetting.

I don't really care, I don't put it on the front window anyway. I would rather have it than not, for a few reasons already mentioned. Each to their own

Not a fan of the idea of no stickers. Its easier for me being a mechanic (as SnipeZ already mentioned). And I like being able to see when my rego is due, alot of people are going to get fined if they dont get a renewal letter too. I never minded having a stickers there, and they really arnt very hard to get off. Mine always peels off perfectly, never really even have to clean it off. And rego is still going to keep going up anyway, atleast you would have a sticker to show for it :P lol

So, Would this mean, If I had 2 EF's for example, I could swap one set of plates between the two and nobody would know the difference until I was pulled over?

Rego labels didn't bother me... Atleast with Rego labels you knew someone couldn't steal your plates and get away with it.

I've always used the rego stickers at work too for vin numbers, year/month details etc, fortunately the new panel shop I'm in someone else does that bit now.
They never bothered me being on the windscreen, think its just the government trying to save a buck

For those thinking of running outside and ripping the labels off there's a $55 fine in Vic if you get busted. Police target this more than you would thing, I remember getting at least one or two people a week back at VicRoads who had just been fined and had come in to pick up a new label.

Police use the label to make a quick check of year / month expiry of your reg. The colour of the label denotes the year of expiry, and the number in the upper square is the month.

Yep - and it's $88 in QLD for not having one.

Or having one on a fucking gay angle.

Or having it in the top of your windscreen instead of the lower left side.
