The EB wagon.

Hey all so I thought I'd throw up a thread about my daily.

Brought it for $500 with new tyres and a month's rego about three months ago



Little did I know until the day after it had a blown HG, weirdest way too, trickles water out the side of #5 when it's been shut down after more then about 20mins driving, I was kicking myself, I checked it over, none of the signs were there, water was clean, so was oil.. I'd been jipped.. Oh well, fixed now.

I did the usual boxcar stuff, clear indicators and side repeaters, removed the tacky pinstripe, cleaner. Cool.











Not much happened really after that, I've been flat out and it is just a daily, then I came across some EF door handles and had an afternoon free and thought 'Why not?'



After that apart from a much needed head unit upgrade and a cut and polish, it's just about how I want it, I don't know if white mirrors is too much white so I've left that for now (Opinions?)

I'm hoping one day soon to drop a 5L in it, with a cam and loudish exhaust and make it a cruiser.. See how things go..

Looks like a great start for a project buddy.

I'd personally go for white EF/EL mirrors, spray up the grey's on the bars, and the center strip red

I've had a head gasket on a customers car leak water down the same area after it was shut down as the radiator pressure would make it seep.

Also had it blow out an oil gallery part of gasket somehow and leak oil out of the side of the head.

But for 500 with new tyres and a months reg I wouldn't be too worried.

I didn't think to check, went well on the test drive and still had water, didn't get too warm or rattle or anything, the bloke said he just had no use for it anymore, then I took it to the shops quickly, came out and saw a puddle, I was devastated haha, it's Murphys Law because a few days before I was bragging about never having a HG issue with an E series lol

I'm gonna look for some white EB-ED covers I think, gonna go to the big smoke when my tax arrives to get a new bad so I might hit up U Pull It..

Quick update, got bored today so I removed the rest of the pinstripe from the left and the GL badge on the rear, now no-one will know it's the povest of the pov-pack Falcons!

nice clean wagon mate, and damned cheap for that bargain price of $500 too. Be wary of the V8 conversion, and buy a parts car to do it (I should have in the first place but I didn't). Get some EL wagon taillights and full exhaust along with a K&N panel filter and you will notice a difference in economy too. Great buses to get around in

As for the HG, at least it let go on the outside. When it lets go internally, it can hydrolock, which sucks balls. This sucks exponentially if it occurs when you've just departed the Spirit of Tasmania and you're on the wrong side of Bass Strait (Candywagon, 2010).

Back to your wagon. I prefer boxcar handles on boxcars, but overall that's a pretty good looking wagon. 2.5 thumbs up.

Years ago I was driving a CL Val that hydro locked all the time, if I turned it off it would have to be off for half an hour unless the water had already gone haha

So do I these are a temp fix until I can get coded boxcar ones, misses absolutely hates them and likes reminding me they don't look right haha

Not a whole lot to report, I got myself a set of slim line weathershields for my birthday and quite like them although I do have to re-fit them.. and A Full S1 EB Fairmont interior, although I have to modify the rear to fit wagon, after a steam clean I was quite impressed..

I need ideas what to do next as I'm at a point where it's where I want it to be looks wise, once I've gotten coded EB-ED handles and EB II wipers and that plastic bit that goes with them I'm at my first idea of what I wanted it to look like but I don't feel done.. The look I'm trying to achieve is stock but subtley nice so I've been toying with ideas of painting the B and C pillar black and other small things but I'm open to opinions

Okay I have a few ideas..

#1 ED XR mockup.. Pretty simple, clean, stock looking.





#2 Same as above but with wheels.



#3 Stock front with wheels.



#4 Stock front with Sprints.



#5 NL front (Imagine the wheels are polished LTD items)

So the time came this week where the front left wheel bearing decided to fail, I've had it on my to do list for a while now but it, as they do, just made too much noise to be ignored another day.. So thanks to my father in law I had use of his XG S 5sp.. The thing is a work horse, crows feet, random dings, filthy interior but f$#k it hammers



Then Thursday I had the time to do it, now I usually do these in pairs but I was pressed for time so I'll probably do the right on the weekend, so I took the wheel off for the first time since I brought it to find this



The s#!t some people do!, so I've added low front springs and shortened shocks to my 'near future' list..

Brake pads weren't any better so I decided to do them at the same time.. And I'm glad I did it brakes so well now I don't know how I managed with how it used to pull up :/

So that's all for now, inspecting it revealed Nolethaine camber kits, all but D link bushes in good condition and all the ball joints are still good - I was relieved, this is the first E series I've owned that these haven't been an issue on so bar the D links, the springs and one tie rod end (I like to do these in pairs too) I'm rather pleased.

low springs wont require short travel shocks, that is only when you go to super lows. As for cut spring welded to strut...well that is a new level of dodgy to see on my end. Spring isn't even cut straight either

So quick update, took it to Adelaide yesterday, did fine and as usual, used SFA fuel but after warming it up to go home I noticed it running rougher on idle, not too bad under load but a lot worse compared to it's usual chemi-weld HG roughness.. So I think it's new motor time, I'm gonna check the plugs shortly but at a guess it's new motor time..

Won't stuff around but can't go 5L yet so probably AU motor and MPFI EB I loom, comp and intake

just put your intake manifold on it, keep the serp setup and I think you need to change the alternator plug.

I it's currently CPI, but you're right I can get away with it

EB with CFI? I don't remember seeing any of those. Do the MPFI conversion, just get an ED or EL motor depending on what you want to run, that way you have all the other bits necessary to do the job, will need ECU and looms also

Yeah early pov pack series ones :/ haha got my hands on a EB with an AU engine, loom done properly etc. etc. Body is beyond help so it will be giving it's engine and loom to the wagon, gearbox will go to my sisters ED and all will be right with the world, just need J3

that works really well then, is it running the BBM or is it still the log manifold? I knew a few EBIs had 3.9s still, but I thought they were all MPFI. Learn something new everyday.

Shouldn't be too hard to do the engine swap, done a few now lol. Should be able to use ECU and looms out of the donor car I would think, just for ease of swap. At least you will have some spare parts afterwards.

The only issue I have is mine is EB I and the donor is EB II

Donor car acquired getting delivered tomorrow, AU console, engine and loom are finding there way into the wagon everything else will be sold off

You may have to change the ECU, a CFI one wont run MPFI as far as I know, but I could be wrong, someone else may have more info on that than me. If that is the case, you would need to change the dash and stuff over (I would think most of the body loom would be the same, but dash loom is different). It would be a lot of screwing around either way. Will be interesting to see how you go with it.

Cheers, I'm hoping the body loom is the same or I'm stuffed for getting it done asap, I have the whole car until I scrap it so if I need to change anything I can, the only pain will be going from non Smartlock to Smartlock but I'll J3 that away as I do the conversion..

Parts car acquired, it begins

Alright I have everything I need here or lined up, going to remove an EL loom and comp from another parts car because this one runs AU BBM and injectors with EB loom and comp, then the legendary Axeman is going to do a J3 for me and I should be ready to roll.

J3 with EL computer and BBM? That will work really well. I was amazed at the difference in idle stability between EB and EL computers when we put one in Gloria.

Yeah well I've been getting advice from Luke (Axeman) with the whole thing, he's a good mate and damn good with E series..

Thanks DJV8T5, here's to hoping! The plan is pull the motor out hopefully tomorrow, take manual stuff off, do the rear main while it's easy then wash it all down and make it look pretty (mate who built it polished things and painted the block black) then when its all good to go park the wagon up, pull motor out, attach trans, feed all the new wiring in, install and hope for ignition..

There is word, not that I believe it that this thing has a port and polish, my mate who originally put it in this red thing won't say if it has or hasn't but it doesn't really phase me either way I'm just happy to be rid of this CPI 3.9 lol

good for the money you paid. Looks like it could do with a rocker cover gasket, but that could just be dust and crap from sitting. Good luck with everything

It's a mix of oil spilt on it and dirt, the rocker cover is actually polished so I'm really keen to get it all pretty again

Seven hours later the engine and box is out in my defense it was ready to come out four and a half hours ago I had to wait on a crane :/
