I know a guy who has a 100hp wet system on his company van (new hiace), stock motor. He aslo had a detroit locker and line locker in it.
That thing used to do the MADEST skids ever. It was so crazy seeing a hiace van doing HUGE smoke shows.

The point is that he wasn't particularly worried about the safety of that van yet it never blew up and he sold it with the balance of the factory warrenty and hasn't heard of any trouble with it since.

Yep, I reckon there are a lot of haters out there for nitrous and the majority of them havent used it.

The people who I know who actually have it love it and havent had any issues.

I had a nitrous kit before and never fitted it. I bought it cheap and sold it to a bloke in QLD who fitted it to his dunger VL that he only used for burnout comps. The car would lose power and the skids would slow down so he would hit the gas again to get it going. He loved it.

ebs_4l said he has successfully run a 110 shot on an EF and it went from 117rwkw to 176rwkw. Pretty good for the cost of it all imo and when I remove the bottle my car is still roadworthy. :D

EL's arent $1000 steady. :P

If I wanted performance I'd turbo it or put a 2j in and turbo that.

V8 is for daily drivering and towing and sounding tuff and only if Sundeep wrecks a V8 and gives me cheap parts.

Realistically Im not going to do anything to the EF after the nitrous is in apart from driving it around.

The maverick needs lockery goodness.

That's a good point I suppose, keeping the daily legal. And the costs of a '51 compared to an ex-Sunny 5.0 special :D (why do I have images of Sunny's EL ending up donating its drivetrain to your EF in 6 months time?)

Nitrous results (times & rwkw) should be very interesting. I can just picture your EF launching nicely (slowly) with no wheelspin, then it starts single pegging from about 60m up the track when you flick on the gas

WooHoo! Trans and engine are all back in now and the car started first go once I realized the auto linkages were in the wrong spot.

I ended up replacing the trans, the intake manifold gasket as it was missing on number 6  the rear main, the sump and rocker cover gaskets.

Im halfway through bolting the extractors on then I have to check the fluid level on the trans after running it for a bit and bolt on the cat then Im done. Damn EL spec trans filler hole FTL.

I fitted the trans on my own seperate to the motor. It was a bit of a kent but Dad came up with a good idea. You can sort of see what we did in the photo below. Dad has bad knees so couldnt get under the car to help so we had to improvise.

Yep. We layed the trolley down on the ground and sat the trans on top. The pan fit perfectly inside the 2 outer bars. I rolled the trolley under the car from the front then jacked the trolley and trans up as one. The trolley held the trans stable so it didnt tip off and once Dad tilted the engine rearwards a little bit the trans slid on easily.

A+++ will use trolley as a transmission lifter again.

That's exactly how I helped a mate fit a G-Force box behind his Clevo, with a trolley jack on his dirt driveway while the car was up on ramps :D We "swung" the box into place by my pivoting it upwards/pushing the whole lot forwards until we got it right, only took a few goes and the fecker didn't fall off the jack thanks to his little brother "balancing" it

Of course, a BTR is far heavier than a G-Force.

So i guess the challenge is getting the car high enough to get the gearbox under the car ON a jack.

I got it high enough to do that but it wouldnt stay on the jack. Any wrong movements and it fell off. The trolley stablised it good.

Ill start on the nitrous install tonight. It would be good to get it out of the way before uni starts again tomorrow. :(

I bought some new rear springs to get the arse down a bit. Ill fit them next weekend.

Here are some nitrous install progress pics.

Image

Image

Its nearly done, I just have to sort out the wiring and the fuel side then its done.

The kit comes with a short piece of braided line and a T piece to tap into the fuel line before the rail. Its not long enough. Ill either have to cut the line, fit 2 adpaters and extend it so the braided line and T piece can reach or Ill need to get a longer braided line made up. Ill probably get a new line made up if I can get down to pirtek during the week. If do it the other way Ill have to use 4 extra hose clamps and that will be messy.

The NOS kit is easy. The instructions are fairly straight forward.

I had a 351 powered XF when I was 19. It went pretty good but was horrible on fuel. It was a $600 wrecker engine but it kept up with new gen 3 SS's at the time. It had a high volume sump but other than that Im not sure what was done to it.

New throttle cable ftmfw!!

The old one was only opening approx 75% so fitting a new one made quite a bit of difference.

Excellent! Are you going to need a better (a 255 or something) fuel pump to make up the extra fuel flow needed?

Not yet. Still waiting on the fuel line. The guy Im buying it from said it will arrive today. I think he forgot and only sent it yesterday.

Then I need to T piece into the fuel line and wire up the switches, buttons and relays.

I plumbed in the purge solenoid last weekend because it was too hot to do anything else. I still have to figure out how Im going to vent it out of the engine bay though.

Cant really be bothered doing it all in a hurry. Ive got assignments and sht due so it might not happen anytime soon. Im planning to have it done by April. :P

Run the vent up through the cowl?

You should get it done easy within like a couple of hours when that fuel line reaches you, there's no point putting it off when it's almost done.
