Must have been less gas.
30c a litre price rise will equal alot more money.
For instance our bf has 105ish litre usable and was costing us $60-75 and is now 90-95.
$60-75 is depending on price (used to vary from 60-76c)

This thing only has a small gas tank, like 50l max, which is why its still costing me less than $45 to fill at 89.9 earlier this week.

Anyway, not sure if i mentioned this already, but I have it booked in on Wednesday next week for a new exhaust system. Twin 2.25" stainless with reverse flow mufflers, maybe cats if the stock ones are stuffed. So I am getting my fill of epic burble over run before it goes! Might see if I can change the plugs before then too if I get a chance, see if it helps the vibration and lackluster at high revs.

With the price hike $$ per 100klm cost between my 6spd ULP Fairlane and 4spd DLPG Wagon is pretty much the same.
The wagon averages 6l/100klm more 'fuel' than the Fairlane. Oh well, looks like the Fairlane might as well get some daily duties for a while!!! Comfort time!

Through my old man, he took one of my brothers 220's to this bloke and he did a great job. Up in Fawkner, apparently he does race cars too or something. Oh yeah, there are now three 220kW XR8's in my family, two of my three brothers have one also! Mine, a red AUII Rebel auto, and a white AUIII manual with leather. Mine is the only one without the cool body kit though. Anyway, the white manual has the same exhaust I am getting and sounds much better than mine does at the moment. Not as loud, but much deeper and nicer.

Of course it is, yours is twin 2.5" right? Quote is $480 for the cats back system. Not sure how much new cats will be, but dad assured me it would be under $800 with cats. If I wanted stupid loud, I'd have gone back and seen my mate Alan down at Blitz Custom Exhaust in Hoppers and got the same 3" system I had on the red one! But that wouldn't have worked in underground carparks at work and my appartment!

Thanks for the offer DJ, but I'll pass. This thing has Herrod extractors on it, plus I would feel more comfortable with brand new cats if I need them. Better to get it all done by the one exhaust place.

Yeah, yeah, maybe I am getting soft in my old age!

Re: EVS DE-EVOLUTION

Postby ClassicAU » December 16th, 2013, 7:43 am

Ok, so firstly, plug change FAIL!! I wen't and bought the new plugs, but has promptly forgot this thing has extractors on it. Discovered my mistake when I got back home and realised I do not have the tools to remove number 5 plug. I might have to try again from underneath the car when I can get to someones place who has a proper jack. The couple of existing plugs I did manage to pull out looked pretty clean anyway, so no biggie.

Anyway, as you may or may not have seen, I took this thing on the GOR cruise yesterday and I must say I was pleasantly surprised! It did not give me one issue what so ever! It took me until after Lorne to grow some balls (having never driven this car hard) but when I did it was epic fun! The low and stiff springs are a little twitchy, but it handles better than I can drive! Chasing Damo for a bit was a hoot, until he hit boost and took off! Had some more fun on the way back through the Otways too.
Also, as I mentioned, it used less fuel than I was expecting. Did half a tank of lpg and just over a quarter of a tank of petrol for a total of 410kms all up! All the driving on petrol was spirited too! As someone said at the Geelong meet up, this is what happens when I listen to everyone else to buy a car!

Re: EVS DE-EVOLUTION

Postby ClassicAU » December 18th, 2013, 9:10 am

So, I left this thing with my old man last night so he could take it in for the exhaust this morning, and he just called me to let me know what is happening. The cats have been inspected and seem fine, so it is just getting a cats back for now. Twin system with balance pipe, reverse flow mufflers and straight pipes out the back with new stainless tips. Should sound much more to my liking hopefully!

However, while it was up on the hoist, a couple of discoveries were made. It is leaking oil from the sump plug, no big deal. Also, the source of the vibrations at high revs was found, the engine has completely collapsed, both engine mounts are completely stuffed! One doesn't even have a bolt in in at all apparently! So dad is going to hold onto it tonight and take it over to his mechanic to get it sorted tomorrow. I asked him to check the harmonic balancer anyway just in case, but I would guess the mounts are the source of the problem.

Re: EVS DE-EVOLUTION

Postby ClassicAU » December 19th, 2013, 9:44 am

Soooo, seems more fail was discovered with this thing yesterday. The latest report is, the cats back exhaust is on, BUT, the engine has collapsed that much that the balance pipe couldn't be fitted until the new mounts are installed. It's off by over an inch at one side apparently, so much that the extractors on one side has a dint in it from the motor hitting the body!
Speaking of the extractors, they need to come off to make way for new engine mounts as they are so big an stupid they are taking up all the room! On top of all this, one of the ball joints on the passanger side is stuffed to the point it's already causing uneven wear of the tyre. Also one on the rear is cracked and non functioning. THEN, it has somehow used/leaked almost 2l of oil since I got it. I'd say combination of sump plug leak, and GOR day of thrashing a tired motor.
Good news is, the car is spending the next couple of days at dads mechanics to get sorted. Bad news is it's going to cost me another $800. Then it will need to go back to the exhaust place to get the balance pipe fitted.

Looks like I didn't get such a bargain after all hey! :-(

Oh, another thing I forgot, apparently another bolt was missing from the gearbox mount as well! For a guy who works at Ford, the bloke must not have been paying much attention to this thing!

I guess I am thinking about this all wrong really. I should be thinking about it as a fixer-upper than a bargain ready to roll. In that case it's really not that bad. As long as the motor and gearbox holds out till if/when I get a company car, then it can reside as a weekend project! :P

You're not wrong Josh!! Haha! I'm not complaining about them though, I just needed the cert to transfer, so no big deal there. I just meant the previous owner was a little lazy!

No money has been pissed away at all this time Sunny, the exhaust was always going to be changed either way. The bloke isn't charging me extra or anything, it's just a bit of a hassle that it has to go back. And you are right, reading it back to myself, it's not that bad at all. The thing will probably feel like a completely different car after I get it back! :P

Yep, just pulling an Ev and being melodramatic!!

The only thing that worries me a bit is the excessive oil usage, but I'll have to keep an eye on that after the sump plug leak is fixed. Hopefully that is all it was. Like I said at the start, everyone who has driven it so far says it goes better than the kms would indicate.
I also still want to get the lpg system given a once over, but I'm sure dads mechanic will let me know if there is anything that needs attention there too.

I would say not good enough with the engine mounts and ball joints, they are pretty important bits in regards to suspension and safety. I hope that is all you find wrong with it Ev, but it could always have been a lot worse too

Don't get too upset about the oil use. If the car was babied around all the time before you bought it the oil was probably full of condensed water and fuel vapor.

Giving it a good hiding would have heated up the oil enough to burn all the condensate out of it, resulting in what you perceive as oil consumption.

Do an oil and filter change and make sure the pcv valve is working properly and go from there. Also bear in mind that all engines use oil, and they'll use more the more you thrash them.

But if you're worried about it I'll give you 1300 for the car ;)

Look at your car. Now back to mine. Now back to yours. Now back to mine. Sadly, yours isn't mine. But if you stopped buying dodgy cars and bought an ED, yours could be like mine. Look down. Back up. Where are you? ...You're on BoostedFalcon, reading the signature your signature could be like! Anything is possible when your car looks like my car... I'm on a computer.

Pipe down Justin, it's still in better nick than that EL you sold me! :epicfight:

That's awesome info Rollin, thanks heaps bloke! Pretty sure he just cruise controlled it to work and back on the highway every day, so it makes sense. It is getting a service while its at the mechanics, and I will get the new plugs put in too seeing as the extractors have to come off.
You'll have to make a better offer than that! Haha! Let's see how I feel if I have two cars to juggle! :P
