EL XR6 Manual Conversion Wiring HELP

Postby IceMintXT » March 27th, 2014, 4:43 pm

Hey everyone,

This is my first post here so firstly I apologize if this is in the wrong section or something like that.

I've currently got an EL XR6 that I'm doing a manual conversion on however I've found myself stuck now that it comes to the wiring. I've tried searching my problem on many different forums but can't really find what I'm after.

This photo is of the engine loom that joins down to the gearbox. (left of the image being gearbox side, right connecting to engine loom)

The issue I'm having however, is that the loom on my EL is one complete loom without those plugs for me to remove the auto loom and plug my manual loom into. I'm not stressed if I have to splice the looms together but I just need to know which wires are which and what to do with the additional ones I don't need. This photo shows my loom being one piece without the plugs for the gearbox loom like the one above.

Anybody got an suggestions or insight into what I can do?

I should add that I'm not going to do the resister trick with the auto plug, instead I am going to use a J3 Chip to overcome the ECU issue. Also incase it matters the engine is obviously an EL engine and the manual came from an EF.

Apologies in advance if this question has been answered before or I am simply missing the information that's already available to me.

Thanks,
John.

Yeah. Ea-Ef loom won't work on an el-au.

You'll need to get your loom that runs to the gear box.

The big round plug you don't need so tape that up.
The inhibitor switch plugs you'll need.
Ones a 2 pin the other is a 4 pin.
You'll need to figure out which wires are used for the reverse switch.
Cut them and put 2 female spades on them for the reverse switch.

The other 4 wires are your park switch and the neutral.
You'll need to find which is which and join the neutral wires together so you can crank the motor to start it.

The other plug you'll need to leave is the speedo.

Hope it helps. Any other questions just pm me.

Perfect mate. Thanks heaps. I'll have a crack over the weekend and see if I can't get it all sorted.

Thanks again.

Hey, I went through this not too long ago. Heres the notes i have have. Not 100% sure on acurracy so you should double check, but it should be pretty close. You dont need the bottom part with a manual J3 tune. Also EF has one colour different somewhere, this suits EL

Code: Select all
WITH MANUAL ECU
---------------
Inhibitor switch     - R-DB  | BK-DG  (bridge!)
Vehicle speed sensor - BK-DG | W | R
Reverse Switch (man) - R-BK  | R-BK (140)
Neutral Switch (man) - BK-W  | P-LG

WITH AUTO ECU (in addition to above)
-------------
auto-trans temp      - Y     | BK-W  1.2k ohm resistor (prevents the thermo fans running constantly LOS)
trans gear indicator - BK-W  | P-LG  6.8k ohm resistor (tell computer auto is in park/neutral)
(same colours as manual neutral switch, different resistance expected!)

1Watt, 6.8k Ohm Resistor - Blue, Grey, Red, Gold         5% Tolerance
1Watt, 1.2k Ohm Resistor - Brown, Red, Red, Gold         5% Tolerance
