Ash's XR6T

Postby Kenaz » July 13th, 2007, 12:23 pm

Picked up this baby a couple of weeks ago.

Plans at this stage are pretty tame as the car is a daily driver. I bought a Typhoon lower intake snorkel today, which I'll fit at some stage tomorrow along with a K&N panel filter. Should help throttle response a little bit, if nothing else. In a few months when I've got more cash I'll head on down to somewhere like Nizpro and get her tuned.

Pics :D

Anyway, it didn't take me long to start modding it. Today I fitted the Typhoon lower intake and a K&N panel filter.

There was a fair bit of cutting involved to get the intake on, however with fairly detailed instructions from xr6turbo.com it made the process very simple.

As prevoiusly stated on multiple occasions - very nice, and I wish I had one!!!

Dose pipe FTW!

We need to go Friday night or Saturday night random cruising in this thing :)

How much was the snorkel? I've been meaning to put one on my ute for ages...

You'll have to let us know if you actually noticed any difference.

I got the snorkel for $65 from FTG Autosalvage.

I took it for a drive this morning and I had actually forgotten about the snorkel. The car felt heaps more responsive. I've done CAI mods to all of my previous cars and the difference was always SFA, but yeah this actually works. $65 + $90 for the K&N well spent I reckon.

Update: I've got flutter. It's not a high pitched VL spec Dose, hence me using the term "flutter". Either way it's pretty cool. Last night was the first time I've driven the car properly since the intake mods so it was really unexpected to hear it the first time I backed off the throttle after a quick squirt. lol I kept doing it all night.

Nice one!

You inspired me to put a K&N in my ute, only noticed a slight improvement in accelleration (my old filter was pretty dirty). I'll have to put a Typhoon snorkle in it too and see what that does. I'd say the snorkle is where the power you noticed has come from...

You should put a F6 intercooler in yours, can get them pretty cheap now and I reckon it makes a difference. My ute has one and it seems to go a bit harder than most standard XR6T's (13.9@100mph). Keep your eye out on eBay and xr6turbo forums.

Yeah I was thinking I would probably go the F6 cooler.

I'm not chasing extreme power levels so that should be enough to keep me satisfied for a while longer.

Dose pipe = get rid of the airbox setup.

You could probably make it louder by blocking the BOV port.

Fhwoa! That was mad.

The only mod I've done to mine is the lower inlet to the airbox. I didn't even expect it to do what it does.

Nice one Ash. I still think you will have E-Series envy! You'll be back mate, you'll be back!

Although you can't beat the T for cheap and easy power. The quickest car I've ever been in was a T with just under 300 at the rears. I saw my life flash before my eyes more than once in the 20 minutes I was in it.

Well I finally got this thing on a dyno. Took her down to Nizpro for the dyno day to see what she can put down as a stocker.

Made 181 rwkW, which isn't toooo bad I guess. Same power as Sunny :) Now I just need to get a custom tune and crack 230 :D

181 for an XR6T with intake mods is pretty weak. Must be thrashed. Or your bald tires were slipping on the dyno. Meh. Dyno's are for tuning and wankers.

For an auto in that heat it's actually about spot on.

It has new tyres on the back.

And yeah I don't read too much into dynos either. I'll be driving it to Heathcote soon.

Good stuff.

I need some auto + trans cooler + shift kit + stally action.... oh the amount of work involved :( And, it's so much fun as a manual!

181.3kW was my old school figure Ash. It's got a fair shtload more work done to it now and I'm confident it's a got a crap load more power in it's guts now. Just need to go to a dyno day to to get it on the rollers.
