Here is

my ride. I love it and it purrs with a sports exhaust. The interior is pristine apart from some weathering around usage areas around the console. Thinking of changing the wheels.

Great to be part of this site.

Yeah i know, any recommendations on the wheels.

The car is pretty much as per 95 though it does has a sports exhaust mod which sounds great. I picked it up 4 months ago in Newcastle. It as i can ascertain through the log book only had two owners prior. Warwick Farm, in Western Sydney is one. I guess the second was somewhere in Newcastle. They have obviously looked after the car.

All trims, interiors are almost mint for a car this age. The leather on the front seats and console is obviously worn however. The auto transmission is a little clunky but not overly so. Brakes may need some attention soon.

Since the original CD changer just well stopped last week, I am am getting a new deck and they can wire it up to the sub woofer, apparently. We will see. When it worked it was a brilliant sound system. ( a little dated though and a very bassy).

It is a fantastic car that gets its rocks off at about 80-90kmh. The acceleration from this engine at that range is amazing. It just takes off.
With it weighing a shitload forget about the WRX, or Nissan's at the lights, but this baby cruises like no other. I plan on keeping this car for a long time.

Any advice is very much welcomed as to mods, suspension and wheel/tyre options.

Keeping it as a cruiser? Don't bother with engine mods then, just the exhaust will do (which you've already got) for note. A full exhaust system would sound better, but if you're happy with your cats-back, why change it?

I guess just focus on your sound/entertainment system, lower/airbag it, & pick some rims you like. Have a look at other members' cars (Introductions, The Showroom, or In The Build) for ideas

BTW, do you have a bit of Jekyll & Hyde going on? You came off as a tripper in your other thread...

Ha, ha well who knows, but thanks for the advice. I know the car would look sensational with some better rims but I occaisionally have the need to drive on dirt roads. albeit very infrequently. Lowering the car could be a problem. Hey what the **** I think I'll do it.

Doubt 22's would fit, but a decent set of 19's or 20's would look hot! Fit an exhaust similar to LUXO8's dumped at the diff, will sound tough!

20's are max up front, and you have to be careful about tyre choice too....... any bigger rubs on the front upper ball joints
go staggered, 20's up front 21's up the back

dual exhausts chopped at the diff sounds great..........summink like this..

Bags/hydraulics and chrome 20s would be the ultimate phatness IMO.

Kester - VEs also have a bigger rolling circumfrence, so the same profile on E-Series rubber would equal bigger rubber on a VE.

20s and 245/30R20 rubber will see you thru and airbags will let u go off road more as they can be raised etc

Well it sounds like a low grunt fart, its not quite a grunty V8, its a 5.0 litre not a 440 Dodge OK, but it makes its presence felt. It burbles and and times sound like a 6 with a sports exhaust but then the note comes in and you know its just a V8. And even if you are taking the piss it still sounds great. A burbling sound, a refrain of technology that just feels right. When I heard it start up on the used car lot I knew I would buy it. Call me pathetic, but thats the truth.

So after my lament at the sound of a V8, I am getting the vibe that I need to be careful with rims on this car. (and yes the story is true I bought it because it sounded great, but hey I got it up to 120k's on Industrial Drive Newcastle before I knew it on the test drive, had Number Of The Beast on in the stereo and my oldest son aged 13 who was part buyer and passenger said, "You've gotta buy this car Dad". After that well, it seemed rather like destiny, so a combination of factors occurred and yes well it still was that exhaust sound and still is).

Getting the new CD/MP3 fitted this Friday, so I will post some new pics of the dash and let you know if it can measure up to the previous sound system.

Looking forward to new rims and a new low ride. Maybe a few months on but hey it will happen.

I guess i mean wheels. Various people have stated there advice about size. Thats all.
I have the new sound system installed. Pictures forthcoming.... Sounds great. Next step is the wheels and lowering it a bit. I talked to the guy at the Audio place who owned a 95 Fairlaine and he said he lowered the front and then took out the fuse for the rear suspenspion. Is this a good idea or what. Any way I will keep you posted.

erm, it all boils down to this:

1) 2 inches bigger or smaller in diameter = within legal limits
2) 1 inch wider or narrower = within legal limits
3) Find a tyre that gives the equivalent rolling diameter of the factory rim + tyre, to within 1 inch.

Most people ignore point 1. I ignored points 2 & 3

no rules on how big or small rims can be.. just overall diameter cant be bigger than 15mm or smaller than 25mm than stock

mmm rims are a tough one...everyone's opinions are different...i went for 19's mainly because for a set with tyres(245/35/19) its only 1800bucks...plus if you go 20's you'l have to lower the profile even more which equals a rough ride and buckled rims. But like i said...everyones different. 20 inch descent tyres arnt cheap.

If i am going to stick with standard tyres in the short term and also because i occaisionally drive on dirt roads to visit some friends in the bush should I even bother about lowering the thing. I think it looks OK as is at the moment. Some nice new standard wheels would not go astray however. Anyway in a perfect world I would lower the beast airbag it and well phatness... At least the new sound system rocks... No more disc changer for me...

That looks better. But lose the yellow and black plates. They look like cancer.
Car looks really clean. Black tinted windows would top it off.

Yeah i know they suck. Thanks for the advice. Tint is next but I had not thought too much about the plates. I mean what are the options. If you don't mind me asking.

Well im not too sure how things are in NSW, but here in Vic you can custom order plates with the colour that you want.

I got the white bordered ones, just go to the RTA website
Mine cost the same as the yellow ones, cause you dont have to have custom ones
In QLD they slap you with a nearly 5k fee, but you dont have to pay it off

Yeah thanks dude I did check that out. My only concern was the narrower profile of those plates and how they would look with the larger "plate" area. But I guess apart from some vacant screw holes on close examination, they look far superior.

Is the 'high the new low" as some people have been saying. Will my 4WD height be cool like those Commodores. Even has the little bump in the rear. Ouch!!!! Those Holdens ain't being lowered...
