an au2 xr6 is pretty decent. better engine and generally dont have e-series issues. also handle better as well.

Yeah I'd probably go AU2 or 3, IRS, more reliable, better built, just generally a newer car!
The series 2 and 3 XRs don't look as bad as series 1 either.
PLUS AU prices are cheap as fck now, you wouldn't be paying that much more over EL, and you get a car that is alot better in everything except aesthetics.

Id be going ELXR6 for looks, but AUXR6 for value! That and the fact you can have a hell of alot more choice in wheels without adapters.

Give it a few more weeks and you will be abe to pick up the AU2 xrs pretty cheap after the Fg has been on the market. Go for a manual AUII-AUIII XR6 you will get better brakes IRS better looking interior it will hold its value better plus the wheel options as stated are better if you can find a AUIII XR6 SP or Sprint they came with the rebel/havok bodykit however they only came in vct which can limit future mods also they were only available in manual.

I was in the same predicament my criteria was it had to be an XR6 manual and i wanted Navey Blue I had a deposit on a EL XR6 NAvyblue on EL Gt's must have been 5 years ago now the day after i put the deposit down a Red AU xr6 manual popped up for an un beatable price, El was $18 500 and the au was $19 500 it was cheap for an AU1 back then they were still fetching 23k + i got him down to $17500 on the road.

I would go an AU as long as it had a bodykit and was in pretty decent condition. The only problem with AUs was the "cockroach" design, but the bodykit breaks that up a bit.

Power is similar for EL/AU XR6 models, VCT version being a tiny bit more than the standard XR6. Gear ratios would also be pretty similar, if not the same.

Power specs

AU XR6 VCT - 172KW at the Flywheel
AU XR6 - 164KW at the flywheel
EL XR6 - 164KW at the flywheel

The AU will deliver the power in a smoother and more refined way. Some members that have converted their cars to standard AU engines have noticed they are smoother at deivering the power.

Wasn't the EB XR6 the fastest on the 1/4 until the BA XR6 because of it weight differences?

EB-ED XR6 and a T5 ftw.

Yeah the later XRs were much heavier than your EA or my EB, and they suffered for it. (plus the autos were pretty tame).

Get an AU, with a body kit they can look pretty good.
As the others have said, less e-seires issues and better performance/handling... better interior also.
Ford wouldnt release a car worse than the model before...
