Big puddles and stalling!

Postby TriymeD » May 2nd, 2008, 10:07 pm

Well we had a flash flooding this arvo on Dorset road and because a car was waiting to turn right I had to go close to gutter where there was a massive puddle. Anyway as I drove through it smiling thinking that was fun next minute the car stalled on me at 60kmh. Luckily I rolled to a service lane to inspect. Couldnt start it and thought bugger what have I done!!

Called RACV but by the time they arrived it started, the bloke said I was lucky cause
1 It can take a day or so to clear
2 or hours pulling apart dizzy and parts to see where water is to clean.

Anyone had this experience?
1964 Wolseley 24/80 (classic)
1976 Honda Civic 4 Door X 2(green and orange)
1985 Nissan Pulsar ET Turbo (ace fun car)
1993 Fairmont ED Ghia w 98 EL engine and tranny on GAS. (not sad to see it go)

Well 6cyl falcons + water, rarley = success. Especially at speed....

A low mounted dizzy never likes water. 2 ninutes and a can of crc will fix that tho. I always kept a can of crc or wd spray in my boot just for ths reason. You never know when flash flooding will occur and god damn it those puddles are soo tempting lol. Especially when there is a school group or pensioners on the nature strip ready for the soaking!

Based on I6 + water = fail, myself & my mates were lucky then: we were all pissed (apart from the unfortunate driver) in Paynesville, in a BA XR6, & intentionally weaving all over the main street at 60kph to plow through massive puddles & drench pedestrians/pets. Great success, no stalling, and nearly had the 5-0 throw us in the cooler :P

I forded a river in my old XE once, the water was around 2ft deep, there was brown steam coming from the engine bay after that but it didn't stall (it ran rough/had a bit of a misfire though for the next 20 mins :P)
