John's EF Ghia

Postby John_LS1 » May 10th, 2008, 3:46 pm

For some reason I bought another E-series...

Its a Series 1 EF Ghia and im sure some people know the car. Only reason I bought it is because it has a sunroof and a body kit and also needed another cheap car because the ED is sold. It needed a good clean up as it was pretty filthy inside, gave it a quick going over and its come up alright but still needs a bit of work. just need to get a roadworthy before i can start driving it around. the car it self drives pretty well, clutch is heavy tho which could be an issue as the car is for my Girlfriend to drive, might have to convert back to auto...

all ive done to it so far is replace the carpeted kick panels as the old ones were stuffed, fitted a EL Ghia number plate surround and also fitted the woodgrain spear on the dash. It also had chrome sill moulds but i took them off as i didnt like them and made the interior look messy. Ive got a EL tickford cluster to put in it and thats about as far as ill go with modding it, only other thing ill do is put my stereo in it. I recently bought some T3 wheels off sunnyto so ill chuck those on for cruises.

Ive already fixed a few issue's it had like the airbag light coming on and also the shifter was sloppy so i fixed it up and its now 10 times better to shift. also fitted the rubber boot that bolts to the floor so no more road noise yay! going to try and sand/polish the headlights myself as theve gone yellow. if that fails ill buy aftermarket ones.

The good bits:

Sunroof
Full EL Tickford kit
Pedders suspension
Manual Conversion
3.45 LSD
Pacemakers (low end version)
2.5 cat back
Steel 3 inch induction pipe
Concorde leather trim in good condition
EL GT steering wheel
Cornering lamps
Some wade cam, cant remember
K&N Filter
16 inch FTR's
+ other minor crap

Try changing the clutch cable before tossing the manual. Can make a huge difference.

yeah its EF. wont be selling bits off this one unless i happen to stack it :P

minor update, fixed up fair few missing/broken things, changed the accessory belt as the old one was cracked, sanded and buffed the headlights so they're not yellow anymore, fixed the wiring on the corner lamps because who ever put them in just wraped wire onto the connection :S.

few other obvious things which still need doing before i take it in for a roadworthy then ill see what else they pick on.

majors are 2 tyres for the front, re-do the battery connections as they look dodgy and a brake switch because the brake lights dont work when the pedal is pressed.

ive only got 2 weeks to do it so i kind of have to lol...ive only spent a bit over $100 on it so far fixing all the little things and adding couple extras. its amazing when there is heaps of little things wrong with a car it can make it feel like such a shit box. its alot better now though.

Yeah that's how my EL Ghia was! I bought it with heaps of small things wrong with it but when you add them all up it seems like a big shitter. But I knew they were all fixable so just bought it because it had the 2 main things I wanted - LPG and V8!

Finally got around to doing 2 more little things yesterday, the coolant bottle and a new level switch for it. No more warning lights on the dash ftw :P
