Anyone on here into retro gaming?

Postby spope » May 30th, 2008, 1:45 pm

Just wondering if anyone on here is into retro gaming? Sega Mega Drive, SNES, Atari, that sort of stuff?
I just received this in the post yesterday:
Image
Jap-spec Mega Drive and Mega CD 2. Main reason is so I can play a heap of Mega CD games that were never released outside of Japan.
In addition to this, I own a number of Oz and US spec Mega Drive/Genesis, 2 Saturns, 2 Dreamcast, 3 Atari 2600s, and countless games for each.

What does anyone else collect?

SNES & Master System II here! Plus a 486DX laptop that's barely alive

I want an Atari, Megadrive, and an NES to round out my oldskool collection.

Anyone got some oldskool "adult" games? The ones with really bad graphics & stick figures & stuff? Like Leisure Suit Larry, etc.

They're funny as :P

I don't actually think a 486 laptop counts, to be honest. Unless you need something to weigh down the rubbish when you put the bins out.

Get on ebay! It's a great way to waste most of your weekly income.
I have a copy of the infamous "Rapist" game on Atari 2600. Where the goal is to rape an Indian girl tied to a cactus. Hilarious!

Nice acquisition!!

I can still remember bidding against you on ebay a couple of years ago for Rock 'n' Roll Racing on Mega Drive! :P

Anyways, I've got:
- Atari 2600
- Atari 2800
- NES
- 2x Sega Master System II (one early grey edition, one later black edition)
- Nintendo Gameboy
- Sega Game Gear
- 2x SNES
- Sega Mega Drive
- 2x Sega Mega Drive 2
- Sega Nomad
- Sega 32X
- 2x Nintendo 64
- 2x Sony Playstation
- PSOne
- 2x Sega Saturn (one early, one later)
- 2x Nintendo Gamecube (one is mounted in a custom rear console in the car!)
- XBox

I've got just a tad under 300 games for all of the above, as well as accessories like extra controllers, multi-taps, link cables, arcade sticks, light guns, steering wheels, etc.

And the best part is that they're ALL hooked up to the TV and surround-sound using switch-boxes, so I can play any of them at any time without having to hook them up!

God I'm a loser :( lol

N64 and Amiga 500. Still have games from the 80s for the Amiga and they still work. Bought a new (never sold) external floppy drive for it last year. Sister got me Rick Dangerous 2 and Space Quest III for my birthday in their original boxes. And I have the Ultimate Leasure Suit Larry Collection. Gonna finish em all with the skros one day.

In SQ5... I always got stuck when you were on the ship & had just left the space station after passing the pilot exam. I know it's right at the start of the game, but what the fark do you do on the ship? Apart from killing yourself in the airlock

Got a SNES, Sega Master System, Commodore 64, and a Mega Drive. I still want an original NES and Master System 2 with Alex Kidd.

Leisure Suit Larry was the best game, Space Quest and Police Quest a close second!

N64, Original Gameboy (still works, got it when I was 3 :P ), PSone, MegaDrive.

Used to have a SNES, wish I didn't sell it. Biggest mistake of my life. :( But now I have the Wii with virtual console, so I have been DK3 for the last two days. I love the Donkey Kong games.

My dream setup. When I move into a new place I am definately gonna do this. I just don't have the space right now. I have made an effort to get all the best video cables I can though. VGA for the dreamcast, s-video for saturn, component for mega drive. You haven't lived until you've seen Sonic properly displayed on a HD TV!
And you have a nomad! I'd love one, but they still fetch a bundle. I will get one eventually.
89AIT wrote:I wish I still had my DreamCast, I still have some cool games for it. I might see what one would cost these days.
Around $100 or so for a system with some games off ebay. I just picked one up for $120 with 10 or so games and a light gun. House of the dead 2 action!
XRated wrote:spope, what did that cost you?
About the same as 3 mint EAs. Just over $300 delivered. I know most people are gonna think that is excessive, but complete boxed consoles are very difficult to find, and they hold their value far better than loose things. Plus air mail from Japan ran about $100, which is an expensive I am always happy to cop.

I am going to buy a SNES at some stage for Mario All-Stars, Paper Mario and Rock n Roll racing. The button config in the mega drive version makes it difficult to boost. But it still has one of the best soundtracks ever in a racing game. Poorly synthesised music, but it is so good!
I've also been looking around for an Amiga CD32 and an Atari Jaguar. If you know what they are, then yes, you are as sad as I am. :P

I got a sega megadrive lying around somewhere
And a master system II

The boxes would be with them too!!

But now on the xbox I've already got sonic 1 and 2, so there is no need to play them!! (You can save game progress on the xbox :P)

What do you guys think the limit of retro is?
Anytihng under the original playstation?

My only old school system is a Master System II (Alex the kid built in). I bought it on ebay a couple of years ago for about $40 :D

Next acquisition will be a NES and a SNES. One day I'll get another N64 just for Goldeneye and DK64.

yeah I love my old school games, to be honest as more and more new games come out I get lured to the older games alot more, most new games just dont cut it for me (excluding guitar hero), ive still got my Commodore 64, Atari with about 30 games, NES with about 30 games, SNES with about 20 games, original dot matrix Gameboy, PS1 and most recently PS2, dont real feel the need to upgrade to a PS3, I probably wouldnt play it much so why waste like $700 or whatever

I only played the first Police Quest, but it was sik. I've only finished the first Larry: In 2 I got stuck in the plane; in 3 I got stuck just after I hooked up with Patti; and 6 I got stuck with 945 points in the penthouse (I think).

lol @ excitebike. I've been playing it on the PC today, awesome game. AFL and International Cricket were great as well. I remember 'Blades Of Steel' as well, ice hockey game that turned into a fighter when 2 players got in a fight.

Anyone else remember Artillery Duel, Wizball, Bruce Lee or I.K. Warriors on the C64?

My dream setup. When I move into a new place I am definately gonna do this. I just don't have the space right now. I have made an effort to get all the best video cables I can though. VGA for the dreamcast, s-video for saturn, component for mega drive. You haven't lived until you've seen Sonic properly displayed on a HD TV!
And you have a nomad! I'd love one, but they still fetch a bundle. I will get one eventually.

Yer, it's awesome fun to be able to play them all whenever you want. I've got them hooked up to the LCD TV, it's great but it's kinda bad at the same time, coz it really shows up the bad graphics sometimes! lol Also, it sucks coz the light guns don't work with it :(

As for the Nomad, I bought it when it was new back in the day, along with my game gear. It's good to have to round out the collection, but to be honest I hardly ever play it coz I just use the mega drive! Also battery life is almost non-existant! lol

Around $100 or so for a system with some games off ebay. I just picked one up for $120 with 10 or so games and a light gun. House of the dead 2 action!

Dreamcast is next on my list to buy, for sure! I've wanted one for years! SOOOOOO many great titles and accessories! That console was light years ahead of it's time...

Yes, I'm as sad as you :P lol

I've wanted a Jaguar for ages! The guy across the road from me reckons he has one at his parents house, but he knows what they're worth and refuses to sell it to me! I wouldn't mind a Lynx as well, at least they're easier to find!

Another one I'd love to get is a 3DO, but they're worth a small fortune!!

Pics of Nomad? I haven't seen one for 12 years, and that was in a display cabinet in one of those VR cafes in Canberra. Who's played a VR game?

I've still got Wizball on the Amiga. Played it a few months ago. Gets pretty fkn hard! Never finished it.
