crazy vic drivers

Postby stalker » May 31st, 2008, 6:20 pm

ok so i was in vic the other day picking up a trans with my friend, it was for his son's car an EL. anyway, i have never been cut of so much in my life. was bad to cos we hit peek time traffic, we went though where the gps said, so over the bridge and under the leaking tunnel. all of this was doing 40km/h or under. what the hell is up with traffic over there, if that was SA we would be doing 100km/h and no one would cut you off... like seriously now i know why you all got turbo falcons, you need it to get though the bloody traffic!! was funny though we had a uhf and were listening to the truckies talking, man they are some funny basteds :p

na was in my mates AU ex taxi, was a return trip for it too. couldn't believe what the traffic was like, why do you guys have 3-4 lane freeways that are like 40-60km/h. there is little wonder why vic has one of the highest accident rates in Australia.

because the Victorian government has the belief that if you are moving 5 kph over any speed limit, you are a danger to the roads and are going to die.

ok but why such a slow speed limit? or are people just really slow drivers.. our expressways and freeways are 100-110, not 60... either way just wow, took over an hour to get to where we were going once we entered the city. and the dude was only just on the other side of it.

Well, most freeways here are 100 (110 further away from Melbourne), but a lot of it's down to 80 at the moment due to roadworks. And then there are all the right lane hogging Camry drivers that feel like it's their duty to drive another 20kph under that!

Unlike SA, people in Vic actually work, as opposed to sitting at home fabbing up bongs out of gatorade bottles.

ok steady, so we went from semi-decent posts to bull shit, thanks for your impute mate, as for the road works yea there was a bit on the freeway. the trucks seemed to be the main problem though, they couldn't make up their minds on what lane they wanted to be in, that and one of them was talking about a car that ran into him.. so that was holding a little bit of traffic up too..

Adelaide drivers suck ass. People from Adelaide who complain about Melbourne traffic are destined to stay in Adelaide all their life, and worse still, enjoy it.

No-one in SA can drive on a freeway, or any dual-lane road. 'Keep left unless overtaking' is a courtesy, not a law apparently. I'd say getting 'cut-off' was just people swapping lanes with less than 500m of space behind them. SA drivers don't like giving up their territory, the number of knts that speed up when you change lanes here is a joke.

Powerade bottles make better bongs, they're more sturdy. :D

LOL, traffic in Melb isnt that bad!  Stalker, have you driven anywhere else other than Adelaide and now Melb.Sydney is bad, but I reckon South East QLD is the worst i've seen and been in.  Takes 30 mins to drive 10-15km in the middle of the day.  I reckon peak hour in Melb is like a normal middle of the day drive here.
But seriously, people cut you off everywhere these days. There's almost never a ride/drive i go on, without being annoyed by some twits driving aptitude.

na driven in Perth Queensland melb and Adelaide, all i was saying is out peek time traffic is no where near that bad here.

and aaron was more like less than 1m, trucks were almost as bad, taking spots smaller than the truck its self. Adelaide is easy to drive in. but your right Adelaide drivers dont want to give up there spot always fun going onto the southern express way.

Well considering Melbourne has 2.6 million more people than Adelaide, what would you expect? We dont keep those extra people locked up in basements.

Also speed limits are farked at the moment on the south-eastern freeway due to major roadworks and upgrades, hence the 80km/h limit instead of the standard 100km/h. Theres also works on and around the West Gate bridge.

The tunnel is usually 60-80km/h i think but most likely changes at peak times due to congestion. Can you imagine what would happen if 2 cars caused an accident 1km into the tunnel and hundreds of cars behind them travelling at 100km/h had no where to go to avoid them? It happened once last year which killed a few people and caused an inferno which melted cars at 1000 degrees! Theres a car attached to the front of that truck and a good reason why you have reduced limits in the tunnels.

Our peak hour is like a drive through the country side compared to London or New York's peak hour congestion.

One thing that confused the absolute crap out of me in Melbourne was all the people in the city pulling over onto the far, FAR left side of the road at large intersections, and waiting till all the traffic passed them on the right, before they then turned right :? usually after their lights had been red for quite a while.

I suppose you'd all at least have to have your RHS rear view mirror adjusted correctly or risk a taxi into your drivers door as you turned out...but that is some weird shit right there.

yeah i must admit the "hook turn" is a joke, not sure why we do it in melbourne

meant to help the flow of traffic,

Hook turns.

Because of the tram tracks right down the middle of the road, and so a car doesn't hold up traffic in the right lane while waiting to turn right.

They shit me right off.

All you do is pull infront of the traffic that are stopped at the lights on the road you want to turn onto on, when their lights turn green you go.
Easy, dunno why people think it's hard :?
Better then kunts sitting in the right hand lane waiting to turn and congesting traffic.

Ah ok, so it's kind of like...instead of turning left and then doing a U turn to end up behind traffic heading in the direction you want to go, you just pull to the left and then go when their lights change, as if you were waiting in first position at the lights. Makes sense now, in a strange sort of way...still looks like a recipe for disaster to an uneducated pedestrian!

Hook turns are a piece of piss.

The are made so you dont sit on the inside lane on tram tracks waiting to turn right blocking the trams.

Hook turns in most cases have lit up signs indicating that you have to do one (right turn from left lane), and when to go just like normal lights. Its easy.

Adelaide is so much worse to drive in than melbourne. Im from country SA, so i fekkin hated driving in adelaide and assumed it was just city driving in general.
When i moved to melbourne, i realised it was just the fact that everyone in adelaide refuses to acknowledge any other driver, doesnt to let anyone merge, dont indicate and generally have no fucking clue of the road rules. Id rather peak hour melbourne driving than driving in adelaide with no one around me for fear that some shtknt is going to appear from nowhere and t-bone me.
its not just adelaide either. i went home the other week(naracoorte if anyone knows it or cares ;) )and was driving down the main street and had to swerve 4 times in a row to avoid people pulling out of car parks without looking. Melbourne is a piece of piss. it may be congested, but people (generally) know how to drive.
