Should Commando get a boost gauge?

Ok, as we are hopefully nearing the end of the damn blower install, there remains one big item missing.
No boost gauge! I think every boosted car needs a gauge, just for coolness.
Dave does not agree.
However, I think he can be swayed by public opinion.
Vote now!

there are speco vacc/boost gauges for $30 at repco.

thats cheap enough to have if you're still NA.

Get a brake pressure gauge.

They read to about 2000psi. That'll show em.

that way you flip the glove box down when you wanna see it or fold it up when you dont wanna see it...or should i say get ur passanger to read it so you can see the road as itll be moving so damn fast!!

Get one for sure, along with a trans temp gauge.

Apparently the coolest place to mount them is on the bonnet, but you can be boring and just mount them under the ashtray or something.

And you can make 100% sure you have the right pullies fitted when you start the car. It would be pretty embarassing blowing the shit out of your motor after 3km because the 6psi pullies you thought you had were really the 17psi ones.

Bump

Finally got around to ordering one, should be in on Friday.

2" gauge, nice & plain, $73 from Repco

When I get around to fitting it I'll change the backlighting to orange-ish to match the rest of the dash. Should sit nicely in that weird shaped hollow next to the trip computer, and I'll source some dash plastic to fill the gap.

Does anyone have a GL-spec blank pad where the clock/trip computer goes? I'm thinking of cutting one of these into shape

I figured it'll catch my attention more once it jumps off the 0, and give a far more easily readable reading than a boost/vac gauge. While I've still got the CAPA tune, std timing, & 19lb injectors/MAF, it'll help me with knowing where I can take it to (ie ~3-4psi) before backing off, rather than relying on trying to listen out for pinging

Plus there weren't too many "suitable" looking gauges out there, or cheap ones for that matter, that showed vac as well. +/-30psi would've been fkn gay with trying to find exactly what PSI it's doing while boosting (hmm... the needle's closeish to the 10, but is it doing 7 or 8 or 9psi?), plus I give no fark for vacuum

LOL yeah 0-15psi vac/boost gauges are hard to find.
I think you should sort out the injectors and MAF situation, 3psi is gay.

VAC reading is handy to tell if you have a leak somewhere after you have been dicking around in the engine bay and knock a vac line off accidentally, I have done this a couple of times. Pesky heater tap line!

You know, that just might work. They're fairly narrow, like -->||<-- that wide. Looking down on the pins is like this [ .. .. .. .. ], they're not as wide as typical spade connectors.

I'll check out an electronics store tomorrow lunch time & get some insulated male/female spades & wire.
