I take them all off the plugs, pop the cap off, and then pull the cap out with the leads still on. Do it with a cold engine and remove the idle air control motor first (the lump on top of the throttle body).
That way you can easily replace the leads one at a time with leads of the correct length, and face them the correct way. Then you just feed all the leads back up in between the same intake runners you pulled them out of.
