sounds like cheap nasty shit.
i paid 400 just for headunit and some speakers.
and that still pretty much the least i would spend.

so i would say dont do it.

i have 2 kenwood units. the one i just got for the xr8 is the same as the one in the ed only slightly newer features.
both cost me $200ish. both go beautiful.

Car audio is frustrating sometimes... Sometimes quality pays off, sometimes not.

I had a MTX 4ch amp, bridged running some 12" MTX subs. Amp died on me so i slapped my older USAUDIO amp in, same claimed power specs. My previous setup done consistenty 138db, the USAUDIO powered done 142.7db at a Sunshine db drag day, then 143db at the 1999 autosalon or something lol. Back when it was at the showgrounds! It went hard for a few more years then i sold the car with it. Was a big ugly bright purple thing.

As for headunits/speakers spend decent money. I always stayed away from Sony.
Alpine/JVC for headunits, Pioneer are good for a bit of bling also.
Kenwood/clarion for entry level OEM replacment speakers. And god knows whats the go now for better quality splits? My last set were the pioneer kevlar type, wasnt overlly impressed.

At the end of the day, buy what you can afford but it would be worth saving a bit extra so you dont buy it all twice! And for gods sake, if you plan to install subs in the boot, dont waste good money on 6x9's in the parcel shelf!! Spend the extra on upgrading spits and just use 2 ways for rear fill.

I got a pair of dominator 6" speakers years ago for $10 I think, they were awesome :D

Some cheapies are good, if you're not interested in going the whole hog. I don't understand people who buy top-of-the-line speakers, or head units, etc etc & leave other things stock. The previous owner of my wagon for example put a decent head unit in (wasn't top-of-the-range but was fairly top-end at the time) but kept the std wiring, std speakers, no amp... And since I have no interest in head-splitting sound with bass that'll rupture my bowels, the std factory speakers & wiring will do the trick for me.

Ive had probably entry level Pioneer setup's in both of my cars, XF with 6" front, 6x9" rear, amp and 12" sub, EL had the same except 2 12" subs and another amp for the front speakers.
Ive moved onto Response gear, and its pretty mad value for money!! Id be heading there for speakers/amps if your on a budget.

cheap speakers are a waste of time champ

trust me, invest in decent speakers you wont be dissapointed

+1 phat'el

response is "good cheap stuff" its well priced and it acutally performs pretty damn well, i would rate it higher then kenwood and sony's basic stuff, and its alot cheaper.
